Okay, so I really don’t like leaving bad reviews but I have to be honest here. There are great things about this, and some awful ones.
To start, the product photo for this computer is wrong. This wouldn’t be a huge deal, except for 2 things-
1. The device pictured is a microcomputer, not a regular sized tower (which is what you’ll receive)
2. I was familiar with the computer in the photo, so even though tech details are surprisingly lacking for this machine - I thought I had a leg up by having history with the device.
Boy was I wrong.
I spent a good deal of money (more than the computer itself) to get 32 gigs of ram for this, so the ram would arrive the same time as the computer. The only problem is, the computer they send uses a drastically different type of ram than the one in the photo. And the tech specs do not have specificity at all- so there was no way to know the exact ram requirements via tech specs alone. Again, I thought my experience with the computer was sufficient. The ram for the photographed computer is significantly more compact. Laptop ram essentially. But surprise! The ram will never fit in a million years! Yay!
So, ok, it’s $250.. I’ll survive.
The tech specs for a device like this need to be rock solid. The product photography HAS to be the correct product! I do see how a graphic designer could make this mistake, from a distance they do look similar (unless side by side, where the pictured one is just a few inches wide. While the actual one is nearly 2 feet).
I got this computer _because_ it was a micro computer. And it’s not. So that really bums me out.
Some minor gripes- the machine clearly was pieced together. All of the bolts on the back are different. Two are missing. It was shipped from a smaller computer company, so I assume this is a contracted proxy sale. Again, fine.. As long as it works, I’ll survive.
And now the price has dropped to half of what I paid, less than a month later. Seeing the item now, I see that the proper price is the current price.
And on to the important stuff. All above annoyances aside, and the incredibly slow ram I am now stuck with, the machine does not park fine. It’s clearly been overhauled, reformatted, and reconfigured for a new user. At least they got all of that right.
It isn’t clear by the tech specs (nothing is) but It does come with a quad core 3.8 gz processor. They upgraded they, because they left the old drivers - quad 2.5gz. There are a bunch of old drivers left in the device manager, which all appear to have been updated at the same time, so there is some good faith here, and nobody was trying to hoodwink me. But I certainly wouldn’t have ordered it if I knew these things. Ultimately I am happy, I’ll say why in a minute.
8gb ram is just barely enough to do basic things. I kicked myself for spending so much on new ram to upgrade it, and am still trying to return those.
Okay, the good-
I was able to create a dual-boot Linux/Windows setup extremely easily. I chose to use Mint, as it is known for being a very efficient OS for older machines. This alone is the saving grace of this computer. I will probably switch to Ubuntu, but Mint is a much prettier and easy to use OS than windows.
The computer does come with a windows system backup/install disc. (Although there is no disc drive. There is room for one, but they chose not to add it). But who uses discs anymore anyway? I have a usb disc drive on hand just in case (when installing Linux, you always want this option if something goes wrong)
I have this computer set up as a laser engraver station - and despite some initial driver hiccups, it works great for this purpose (with LightBurn software). I have no complaints about that.
I prefer the DV monitor cable, so I consider lack of HDMI to be a plus. I also use a usb driven DisplayConnect monitor, which did require new drivers to use, but that’s normal for DisplayConnect). It’s got a total of 6 USB ports. 2 in front and 4 in back. That’s important, because there is no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi hardware. Any peripherals have to be wired. Internet must be Ethernet. I am a nerd and run Ethernet around my home anyway. So no problem.
All in all, this is probably my most disappointing Best Buy purchase I’ve made, and I am an Elite Plus member (which means I spend an emberassing amount of money there, basically.) But all in all I did get a computer that does what I need it to do. It does run Linux and Windows surprisingly well as a dual boot config. There isn’t a lot of
Bloatware that would come in a computer from, say, a dell warehouse. It isn’t a Mac, so the OS won’t be as snappy as a Mac. But Mint Linux is a very light and efficient OS that makes it seem like the ram is 16, not 8.
So I will keep the computer. It’s very much like a computer I would find in high school from the local mom and pop computer shop. And it feels like it (mismatched bolts, missing because bolts, with the cover off there are some conspicuous areas with missing hardware- giving credence to the idea that this computer was truly rebuilt. I suspect only the motherboard is original. The rest is a sort of nerd-Frankenstein that despite all my complaints, I still like and will keep it.
Oh and lastly, the resolution is surprisingly goods 3840x2160 on a 25” LG via display port.
If you are a nerd who needs a simple machine for simple tasks, this is will do.. If you want to run and learn Linux without investing much cash, this will do. If you want to buy this computer because you recognize and like the product in the photo, halt! Turn around, it’s not that.
If you only use wifi and require Bluetooth, this isn’t a good option. (Although you can get usb interfaces for both)
If you want to reminisce about the days when logging into the internet created the most
God-awful noise they you grew to love, this had all of they check (without actual dialup).
This is the absolut minimum for a computer to
function in 2022. But the engineers paired the hardware nicely, and it is a bit faster than one might expect.

The desktop is quick to boot once all of the updates to windows ten were installed. I am using it mainly to surf the web and watch videos and it fits my needs well. You must buy a WiFi adapter (I spent $10) unless you are able to run it on a cable from your router. Overall a good value with excellent support.
