Great Computer, Lousy Software Installation

Laptop is great, I love it.
But Best Buy's software implementation sucks. Windows 11 works fine intil I try to upgrate to a newer version. Windows update fails. Every kind of recovery, install and even ISO attempts fail. After many, many hours I finally discovered some essential system files are missing. So now I'm forced to choose between using the computer with a no longer supported Windows 11 version, or trashing this fine machine.
I'm forced to make a choice of would I recomment this item. I choose Yes for the computer, but buy it somewhere else.

For it being pre-owned, it came in great condition! I now have 2 refurbished products from BestBuy and have not had any issues! I enjoy the touch screen feature and being able to turn it into a tablet if needed. I would recommend!

We have a number of Lenovo devices in our home. We hoped this one would make a good shared laptop for light use. Unfortunately, the battery on this unit combined with the build quality made it a poor fit. Thank goodness for Best Buys return policy.

Hello, Rfh01tx, we are sorry to hear that your Refurbished Flex 5i 14 did not meet your expectations. In advance this is a length response, as we want to fully address your pronouncement. Regarding your remark about battery life, this Flex 5i features a 52.5Wh battery, with a battery life of up to 10 hours, depending on device settings and workload. In the future, should you experience significantly less battery life than what the device is rated for, set your screen brightness at less than 100-percent - try 80-percent to start with. Also, check what programs are running in the background on the computer. Be sure only the programs you want running in the background are. These programs will drain the battery. Here is a link to information about how to find out what programs are running in the background on your Windows 11 computer and how to manage them for better system performance: https://websiteforstudents.com/how-to-find-what-is-running-in-windows-11/. Then, finally, be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 11. Incompatible software will drain the battery at a faster rate. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system, as conflicting software can cause erratic system behavior. With the build of your Flex 5i, this model is made with PC-ABS (Top), PC + GF (Bottom) case materials, and sturdy, smooth hinges for easy, long term use of those rotating hinges. Should you encounter an issue in the future, don't hesitate to reach out to Lenovo Tech Support at this phone number for help reaching a resolution: 877-453-6686.

Hello, NoraC, we are sorry to hear that you have encountered an issue with your Flex 5i 14. In advance, this is a lengthy response, however we want to give you and other readers of this response as much information as possible to help ensure your issue is resolved should you encounter something similar in the future. Here is a link to a Lenovo Support webpage that shares some troubleshooting steps to follow should you experience issues with your camera: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/flex-series/flex-5-1570/80xb/solutions/ht118432-webcam-or-camera-not-working-or-cannot-turn-on-in-windows-81-10-ideapad-thinkpad . Regarding the battery, this model Flex 5i ships with an integrated 52.5Wh battery, which within this model configuration, has a battery life of up to 10 hours, depending on the work the device is performing. If you are getting substantially less battery life, first, set your screen brightness at less than 100-percent - try 80-percent to start with. Then, be sure Battery Charge Threshold is turned off. This power management setting should only be used when the laptop is plugged in all the time. It will prolong overall battery life by only charging the battery to 60-percent of capacity. You can turn off Battery Charge Threshold within the Lenovo Vantage APP installed on this computer. In Vantage select Battery Settings and turn off Battery Charge Threshold, if turned on. Also, here is a link to a webpage that details various options for disabling background applications and processes that may be using battery: https://allthings.how/how-to-turn-off-background-apps-in-windows-11/ Upon making these changes, if the issue persists, we recommend reaching out to Lenovo Tech Support at this number for continued assistance: 877-453-6686.

Hello, AlesH, we are sorry to hear that you have experienced an issue with your Flex 5i. In advance, this is a lengthy response, however we want to give you and other readers of this response as much information as possible to help ensure your issue is resolved should you encounter something similar in the future. Some Lenovo models are equipped with power management programs that either extend the run time of the battery or extend the life of the battery. The partial battery percentage available relative to the full battery capacity (plugged in, not charging) indicates that this sort of setting may be enabled. Under this setting, the battery does not charge to 100% when connected to an AC adapter in order to preserve the battery’s life. Here is a link to a Lenovo Support webpage that details some troubleshooting steps to help resolve this issue: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht103159-battery-charge-stops-at-60-plugged-in-not-charging-windows-ideapad . If your problem persist, we recommend reaching out to Lenovo Tech Support at this number for additional assistance: 877-453-6686.
