Customers find value in the ease of use, great sound quality, and the alarm features of the Smart Clock (2nd Gen). Many appreciate its integration with the Google Assistant and the range of features it offers beyond a simple alarm clock. However, some customers expressed that the screen size is smaller than anticipated. A few also noted the absence of a USB port, a feature present in the previous generation.

This little clock is a fantastic bedside piece for those looking to have a device that has few main features you need in a bedroom: (1) playing relaxing sounds before bed, (2) listening to latest news if you command it to do so, (3) tell you the time and weather, and (4) obviously set alarms. However, be aware that this is not one of these high end Google Home devices. It will not be able to track your sleep and give you details on that. And obviously it’s not a device on which you can really cast videos to watch stuff (unless you want to do so on a tiny screen). However: if you are looking for some thing to do all of these basic tasks, not pay a lot of money for it, and you just want a small digital clock – I think this is a great investment, especially if it’s on a sale. for me as a college student this is plenty enough.

So sad that Google stopped supporting this device! I freaking love it.
It's compact, elegant and easy to use. I have several of these and they make the perfect little display in our living room!
We use it mainly for the Google home function though. Everything works awesome on it and sound is great.
Little worried that there may be some bugs popping up now that Google has dropped support. But I would even still highly recommend!

I bought this Lenovo clock to replace an old Sony clock radio. I love the compact size and the options it provides. Especially that touch screen and the ability to customize it. I turned off the Google assistant mic because it sits right next to a Google mini on my nightstand, so I don't need them both responding to my requests. The only reason I gave this a 4 star instead of a 5 star is because it doesn't have an auto dim and when I dim it for night, I can't see it in daylight. It's too dark. So I either have to keep switching the dimness/brightness or just not see it in the daylight. That is a bummer! Otherwise I LOVE it!

I am really glad I was able to finally get a smart clock. It is very easy to pair with the google home app. The sound is really sharp from the spotify app and it is really compact. I would definitely buy some more for other areas of the house.

Great Google Assistant smart clock - easy to set up and I really like the display options - the home screen display with the temp and weather condition is a really nice feature as well. The fact that you can change the clock display type is also a nice bonus. It's a good addition to my home work office space. And the price was a very good deal!

I had the first generation clock and all of a sudden it stopped working so I thought it would upgrade to the second generation, what a mistake I should have just purchased another first generation clock is it worked a lot better. Ended up just replacing it with a Google nest hub and haven't had an issue yes. Stick with the first generation, the second generation only lasted a couple of months before it broke. I wish I took a picture of me throwing it in the trash.

Works great as a visible clock and assistant. Works well with assistant and alarm clock. Display gives reminders from other Google devices in home. Cheaper alternative to a Google nest hub.

I got this for my desk at home and it comes in pretty handy. I like watching the nest cameras I have at my house. I can tell it to ajust my thermostat. I only wish the charging versions came in the same dark color the standalone version comes in. I would have liked the wirerless charger but my desk is all black and it wouldn't look right.

DESIGN/BUILD QUALITY:
The device has a small overall footprint. The front of the device has a 3.97-inch 480x800 IPS screen and just above it are two microphones (one on each side), and a light/proximity sensor in the middle. The screen looks pretty good. It can get rather bright. And more importantly very dim. With this being a smart clock, most users will want it next to their beds. You can set it to automatically change brightness (based on the light sensor) or do it manually. You also have the option to “show mono clockface”, “show current clockface”, or “turn off screen” when low light is registered.
Which brings me to alarms. Which are awesome. When you set an alarm, you can choose if/when it repeats, the alarm tone, to be a “sunrise alarm” which slowly brightens your screen 30 minutes before you wake up, and if you want it to play your “good morning routine” which you can setup in the Google Home app. You can set the alarm and timer volume, the snooze length, maximum alert time, to snooze or pause with a hard tap (like what?!). When it is getting close to going off it will give you a countdown of how much time is left. Last, if you have a timer going (or nap) it will countdown on the main time screen. If you swipe down from the top of the device and click “goodnight” it will activate that routine. For mine I have it to turn off all my lights, tell me the time, and then lets me set an alarm and what song I want played to wake me up. It also turns off the screen. It feels very futuristic.
By swiping right on the home screen, you bring up the weather. If you tap the weather screen it gives you more information audibly and bit more visually. If you swipe right again it went to YouTube Music (for me). I didn’t see an option to add more screens here. Which was a bummer. As I would like to go into my smart lights. Or add other things like Audible.
Swiping up from the bottom brings up brightness, volume, do not disturb, and settings. Swiping from the top allows you to set an alarm, “goodnight” which we discussed earlier, and play music. Along with a “night light” toggle which will turn the screen to orange (by default is customizable), that you can then easily turn off.
On the top of the device (on the left and right) you have your volume down and up keys. These feel great to press with very strong spring back force leading to a very satisfying click with a very mild audible click.
On the back of the device, you have the power adapter port (which comes in the box) along with a slide to mute switch. This switch takes moderate/severe pressure to move with an audible click. When muted it will announce “the mic is muted” and show the mic is muted in bottom left corner. It does the same thing but opposite when unmuted. On the bottom there is a dock connector that isn’t included in this version. But comes bundled with another version.
Overall build quality feels great. It is lightweight and sturdy. Doesn’t wobble when you are pressing the touch screen. The touch screen is also angled slightly so it is easier to see. Touch screen is relatively responsive. But not perfect and feels “lower end” compared to some of the higher end displays I’m used to such as from my iPhone or iPad. I also found its response for when I gave it a command to be rather snappy. It uses the 2.4 Ghz wi-fi band and has Bluetooth 4.2 which is a bit old.
SMART FEATURES:
The Smart Features here are a lot more limited than I would like. Mostly only accessible through audible commands instead of a touch interface. I think they dropped the ball here. I really want a device that works as a “switch” through buttons that can turn on and off lights, change colors, set scenes, turn on/off my TV, and other smart devices. This can do all of that through voice commands but not through touch. When you turn on/off Hue light for example you have to say “turn on desk light” then it executes that command while also coming up with a toggle to turn it on/off and adjust brightness but not change the color. This screen disappears shortly after the command. Or you can swipe left manually. You can’t play videos on this device at all from my testing unless if you mirror it there. Last, when you ask Google something it doesn’t really come up and show you any more info. It does occasionally but that was hit and miss as well. So, if I asked a definition for a word it just audibly said the word. It didn’t come up on the screen. But if I asked what 2x4 was or 5 pm pst into cst it did come up. If you asked it do to a countdown then it would show up on the screen. Plenty of other questions didn’t bring anything up.
As for showing security cameras. This was hit and miss. I wasn’t able to get my Arlo camera or Lorex cameras to work. Granted my Lorex cameras rarely work for anything. But my Eufy cameras worked just fine. Strangely my Google Nest Gen 2 wired didn’t work either. Which was wild seeing as these are both “Google”. What you could do when a camera came up was limited to play/pause. Which is also a bummer.
CONCLUSION:
This is a fantastic bedside clock, with some limited smart features. The alarm function is amazing. Having Google built in for voice commands is great. But the screen is mostly wasted as it is extremely limited in what it shows and what you can command with it. Pulling up security cameras was hit and miss. You can’t control smart devices until after you give it a voice command. Meaning I wouldn’t buy it for the screen as the screen doesn’t do anything other than show you the time or weather. But if you need a clock, an alarm, something to show you the weather, and incorporate your Google smart assistant this is a great choice.
