I have been searching for a lightweight computer for writing for a very long time. I was able to get this computer on sale with the Holiday promotion, and the keyboard feels fantastic. I returned a Macbook Air to get this one. I had returned the first C740 I got because it had a problem with repeated keystrokes, but I think it may have been the BIOS update-- don't reload the BIOS from the Lenovo updates and you should be OK. I'm not a gamer-- just write and surf the web so I didn't need a lot of storage but wanted a machine that was fast enough I didn't have to wait for pages to load a long time, and had a nice screen. The fact you can use it as a tablet as well and Windows Ink is just a bonus. The speakers sound nearly as nice as the ones on my Acer 15 inch Chromebook-- they are upward-firing-- you just have to be careful with liquids around -- you don't want to be spilling any coffee into those speaker grills LOL. The color is beautiful and the fact that the keyboard is backlit is great too. I'm very pleased to have found this model-- Lenovo makes quality products-- I have an older Thinkpad I use for a desktop machine and it just soldiers on day after day-- no problem. Good job Lenovo.

Bought this to replace a 4 year-old M3 Yoga that just couldn't keep up in the RAM, drive space, and battery life departments. This model resolves all those issues and the aluminum shell form factor is so much nicer than the plastic case on the old Lenovo. Wish it had a standard HDMI jack but we've been fine using wireless to connect to our big screen TV, so haven't felt compelled to buy an adapter run a wired connection. Very good build quality and features for this price point.

The 10 Things I Love About You...

I've been driving around this bad boy for about a month now and it has reshaped my opinion about what a Windows 10 computer can be. I'm a recently reformed Chromebook user who left the Windows environment because it was just too buggy. I absolutely love this machine! 1. Battery life. I can go all day on the battery. My last Windows laptop gave me about 3 hours max. 2. Screen quality/resolution. The clarity is incredible. The screen is glossy and it does reflect light, but that's easily overcome by changing the angle of the screen. 3. Speed. I thought my Chromebook was fast. This i5 chipset leaves my Chromebook in the dust. 4. Crashes. I should say the lack of one. Not a single crash since the day I opened it, and I use my laptop every single day. 5. Portable. Some laptops are heavy beasts. This is light enough that I can carry it around with one hand and I hardly know it is there. 6. Fast charging. It takes a little over an hour to recharge the battery. 7. Gorgeous. The brushed steel looks and feels amazing. There is nothing that comes across as "cheap" or where the manufacturer may have cut corners. This is a very rich-looking laptop. 8. Backlit keyboard. I can see everything in low light or even complete darkness. 9. No lag. I'm not a power user by any means, but I keep a ton of tabs open and I run several programs at once, including Office 2013 (yeah, that old, I know). There's no memory lag/leak that I can find. 10. Value. I've had computers since 1984. I've been in the Apple universe, Windows universe, and Chrome universe. This is the slickest, nicest, most reliable, easy to use machine I've ever owned. I'd buy this one again in a heartbeat. Cheers!

I have had the laptop for about three weeks so I am still getting familiar to it after using Dells. I like this Levnovo better than the Dells. Price is excellent for the specs after comparing with other brands. Love the screen. I dislike all touch pads and this one is no different. A blue tooth mouse is an easy fix for the touch pad. The only issue is the blue tooth uses the only USB-A port. There are two USB-C ports, one of which is for power of course. That leaves the other for a hub. There is no HDMI port either. So again, a hub needs to provide for HDMI as well. I like the internal speaker placement. Much better than other laptops I have used.

I had a pc which was ten years old and I was ready to replace it. Performed quite a bit of research and determined that a Lenovo would probably suit me well. I expected to pay round $800 before software and that proved to be the case. Reviews for this model were very solid and when I tested it out, I liked the keyboard, where the speakers were positioned (didn't like the idea of them in the underbelly) and the size itself. Now that it's up and running for about two weeks, I would say it was a good purchase. One caution: Having only one USB portal is not ideal, however (I still like using a mouse and mine is wireless) but a $9 four way USB port solved that The screen is crisp and the sound is pretty good as a stand alone, although I have speakers from before. As you probably know, plan to spend @ $150-$200 on top of the computer purchase price to get your options.

my wife works from home. her other laptop died suddenly after 6yrs. the screen is bright and easy to read. is a touch screen. has windows 10 home which i am not a fan of. have win 10 pro on my desktop which has fewer limitations on what software you can run on it. it will run most home use software. I use a program for designing printed circuit boards for work. win 10 will not run it, only win 10 pro. should not be an issue if you are doing general computer stuff. word processing, spreadsheets, etc. the battery lasts a long time. at least 6 hrs, probably longer depending on usage. keyboard lights up. has usb C for power. can fold over for tablet mode. would buy again.

Thank you for choosing the Lenovo Yoga C740-14. This model ships with a 4CELL_51WH_INTERNAL, Lithium Polymer Battery, with a battery life of up to 13 hours. If you are only getting 6 hours of battery life, be sure Battery Conservation Mode is turned off. Here is a link to instructions for turning off Battery Conservation Mode:
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht103159. If Battery Conservation Mode is not turned on, but you still only get 6 hours of battery life, be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programming errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Click on "Reset This PC" Then click on "Get Started" and follow the on screen directions to restore to factory defaults. If the problem persists, we recommend you contact Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686. Lenovo

Pretty happy with this! Once I had to work from home (#covid19..) I realized my old laptop wasn't quite up to being my main work machine. I did a lot of research and this wasn't really on my radar until Best Buy ran a sale that put it in my price range :-) Pro: It feels very well made, and it's plenty fast for my typical office use: browser open with 10-15 tabs, documents & spreadsheets, video conferencing, occasional light CAD work. The speakers are really good too, which was a deciding factor for me. Not quite as good as the Lenovo Yoga C940, but many hundreds of dollars cheaper. Average: The keyboard is ok, but not up to the standard of enterprise laptops like Dell Latitude or Lenovo Thinkpad. If you do a lot of typing and you're picky about your keyboards you might have to spend more. I use a dock and external keyboard with mine for extended work, so it's fine. Con: The only downside is that the fan is a bit more active and loud than I would have preferred, and the sound is kind of high-pitched which makes it more noticeable. I like fanless laptops, but decided I needed more power and so I guess it's just something I have to learn to live with. Final note: the Yoga C740 runs Linux great. I didn't see any other reviews mention this, so if you're searching here it is! I tried Pop_OS! and Manjaro, but there were issues with both probably because the laptop is so new. Finally tested Fedora Workstation, and the only thing I didn't get to work is the brightness keys which isn't a big deal (can be adjusted in quick menu anyway).

Thank you for choosing the Lenovo Yoga C740-14. This model ships with a standard QWERTY keyboard, without 10-key numeric pad. Key travel is a comfortable 4.3mm. Regarding fan noise, you can manually adjust the performance of the processor, which activates the cooling fan within this system, just use Lenovo Q-Control to manually control performance: Tap ( Fn + Q ) option to change the performance to one of three different settings: Quiet, Automatic, Performance (the default setting). Good Laptop for College, but...

I have had this laptop for a little under a week now, and I have had no major issues with it, but there are a few issues. I figured since I had seen a few reviews saying that they don't even hear the fan when it kicks on, I decided to put it to the test. I got The Sims 4 and a couple expansion packs. Within about 10 minutes of downloading it (not even playing it yet) the fan kicked in. It's not exactly loud, but not super quiet like the reviews said. That's fine, honestly I'd think there's something wrong with it if I didn't hear something. But, then when it finished downloading, the laptop was very hot, like almost burn your skin hot. I mean, I was pushing the limits a little, so I let it cool down and started playing the game. Again, not even 10 minutes into the game, and it was hot again and the fan was going. I mean, I didn't get it exclusively for gaming so honestly I'm not upset that it doesn't play large games well. But unfortunately that's not the only issue I've had. It has a ridiculously low battery life. Like, I can fully charge it, use it here and there, and it will be at 50% within a couple of hours. I had to put it on battery saving mode or else it drops like a rock. And yes, I do understand the battery draining when playing a large game like the Sims, but just browsing the Internet and watching a few short videos? I don't know, my old crappy HP that my high school gave the students held charge better than this one. I needed a laptop that can hold charge, since I'm using it for college. Maybe I just got one that didn't have a good battery to begin with. Overall though, I'm pretty impressed with it. The screen resolution is amazing (way better than the HP), the fingerprint scanner was a nice surprise, the size is just right, it's lightweight, and the speakers are actually kind of loud, which I expected since they are Dolby. It boots up pretty fast as well, and switch from laptop to tablet mode is smooth. I don't know, other than the heating up fast and the battery, this is a steal. It's cheap, but not too cheap, and it works well for what I need it for. So, really it's up to what you want a laptop to do. I wanted one that would fit in my book bag nicely and be easy to take notes on and maybe able to play a game or two, and this laptop does it relatively well. I personally wouldn't recommend this exclusively for gaming though, definitely look for a gaming laptop with the memory and fan to handle it.

The Lenovo Yoga C740-14 ships with a 4CELL_51WH_INTERNAL, Lithium Polymer Battery, with a battery life of up to 13 hours, depending on the work the device is performing. If you are getting less than expected battery life, first, be sure there is no incompatible software installed. Incompatible software will drain the battery at a faster rate. First of all, I bought this on sale for $650, which is $150 off its retail price. This is an excellent computer at that price and I would recommend it to anyone. Build: It is all metal, with a great glass trackpad and sturdy but easy to move hinges. It is light, thin, and looks great. The 2-in-1 form factor is nice, but because of its size, don't expect to be using it for a long period of time in tablet mode. Screen: the brightness is decent, not fantastic, but the colors are good and viewing angles are great. Unfortunately, the screen is extremely reflective, so you'll have a hard time with it in some lighting, especially outside. The touch screen is responsive and I find myself using it more than I thought I would. Keyboard: It feels great and is backlit, but the color of the keys can blend in with the backlighting, so you'll only want to use the backlight if it's really dark. Performance: The i5 with 8gb of ram and a 265gb SSD will be fine for most people. If you need more than that, the only thing that can be upgraded later is the SSD. Fingerprint Reader: Fast, accurate. What else could you need? Speakers: Acceptable. They get loud, but the sound isn't great at higher volumes. They won't knock your socks off, but they aren't a point against it either. Pen Support: I haven't tried it and don't plan to, but it's there if I need it. Again, if you can get in on sale, this computer absolutely looks and feels much more expensive than what you paid for it, and I would highly recommend picking one up.

I was looking for a tablet for my upstairs to replace the really old tablet. I thought it would be better to get a 2 in 1 laptop that I could use as a tablet and a computer so I purchased this at a great price from Best Buy as an open-box purchase. PROS: great speed touchpad very responsive backlit is great really love that I can use it as a laptop or tablet Can do all that I need to do As advertised CONS: Although I have it set in battery saver mode - the battery life is still lacking. I'm not sure about how long the battery will last because I recharge it when it gets down to about 40%, but it seems to get about in 3 or so hours. The speakers are awful!!! Only 1 USB ports (however, I purchased a 3 port USB adapter for less than $10 on another website) I'd say if these things aren't important to you - then I would highly recommend this product.

If you are getting substantially less battery life, First, set your screen brightness at less than 100-percent - try 80-percent to start with. Then, be sure Battery conservation Mode is turned off. Battery Conservation Mode Power Setting should not be confused with Battery Saver Mode. Battery Conservation Mode power management setting should only be used when the laptop is plugged in all the time. It will prolong overall battery life by only charging the battery to 60-percent of capacity. Here is a link to instructions for turning off Battery Conservation Mode: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht103159. Also check what programs are running in the background on the computer. I hadn't bought a laptop in about six years, so I really didn't know what to expect. This laptop was on the lower end of the prices of laptops with which I viewed. After purchasing, I am extremely happy with the many features including, touch screen, speed, battery life, etc. I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone.

I have had this laptop for about 1 month and I absolutely love it! I use it all of the time and truly do not see any use for an iPad anymore. I love the touchscreen, the screen is of great quality, the lit-up keyboard is great and the keyboard layout works for me. I enjoy the ability to fold the laptop back on itself for using more like a tablet, however the primary limitations with this are the keys remain exposed and the speakers are covered when setting it on a surface. Also, if the laptop goes to sleep in tablet mode, you need to touch a key on the keyboard to wake it up. For those reasons I do not often use it in tablet mode. It is best used as a touchscreen laptop in my opinion. Since I prefer typing on an actual keyboard vs. the digital keyboard, this works for me. It is lightweight, has a great screen size and fantastic battery life with built in battery conservation to prolong the overall life of the battery. I have no regrets about purchasing this laptop, great quality and value for what's currently available.

Thank you for choosing the Lenovo Yoga C740-14. When the Yoga C740-14 is in tablet mode, the keyboard and touchpad automatically turn off so there is no worry about making an inadvertent entry when touching the keyboard keys or the touchpad. You can wake the Yoga C740-14 from sleep mode while in tablet format by just pushing the power button on the side for approximately 1-second. Lenovo

Just recently bought this because my boyfriend is going back to school for his masters! He also does some video editing on his free time. The laptop is sleek, fast, and user friendly. We’ve been playing with it a lot and the display is great and awesome with touch as well. Very good purchase, especially for the price!

At first I was skeptical about buying this laptop because I have always used the basic Dell or HP laptops. My old Dell Inspiron which I have been using for 6 years now decided to stop connecting to the internet which caused me to restart it every time I opened it up, and when it did connect, it was VERY slow moving. I went into the store expecting to go that route again but the price tag ($999 and up) was a little out of my range for the time being. That's when I noticed this laptop. It is much thinner and the screen is much smaller than my past laptops which is exactly what I wanted. Oh, and the battery life has so far exceeded my expectations as well. I had an i7 processor in my Dell but I'd have to say the 10th Gen i5 processor is just as good if not better in this Lenovo laptop. Overall, if you aren't trying to break the bank while getting the best bang for your buck, I would highly recommend getting this laptop 100%. I am very satisfied and I think you will be too.

This is a sweet little 2 in 1 laptop. I’m quite impressed with it. Seems to be very sturdy, engineered really well and it boots up almost instantly. Got to love that. It is quite perky while moving around and processing is fast. The screen is nice, sharp and crisp. It’s a huge step up from the dell I bought new 4 years ago which was almost 5 times as much money. Pairing it with our new 400 mbps ISP and I can get around the web very quickly now. I will most likely buy another one for my wife this Christmas, I like it that much. I haven’t played around with the touchscreen yet but I’m looking forward to it. Just ordered a Lenovo smart pen that arrives in a couple of days. I can’t wait!

Very well made and well designed. Love the aluminum case and stable 2 in 1 hinge. Touch screen is very responsive and accurate. Didn't come with pen, wasn't expecting it, but just an FYI. Great price at the student discount. I'd by it a gain at that price.
