Unreliable – Screen Goes Black Randomly
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the Slim Pro 9 14IRP8 eight months ago, and just 29 days later, it started experiencing an issue that I appears in some discussion forums: the screen goes black at random with no clear pattern. Once this happens, the laptop continues running—I can still hear and be heard in meetings—but the screen remains completely unresponsive, making it impossible to use the laptop. Restarting doesn't help; I briefly see the Lenovo logo upon startup, but after that, the screen stays black. I am 60 years old and have used laptops for work for over 40 years without ever experiencing an issue like this. This is my first Lenovo laptop, and unfortunately, it has been a deeply disappointing experience. I have contacted Lenovo support four times, and it’s clear their team is instructed to offer only basic troubleshooting. My first interaction was great, the second was okay, but by the third, the technician didn’t even bother to listen. In the end, I wns up having to pay someone to connect an external monitor and manually reinstall softwares, just hoping the screen would work again. This black screen issue has now occurred 48 times, lasting anywhere from 40 minutes to 4 days. At times, it happens three times in a single day, while at other times, weeks go by without an issue—making it completely unpredictable. Sometimes it appears when I am using the computer, others, it is there when I just start up. As someone who travels frequently for work, I often stay in hotels where I don’t have access to an external monitor. This means that when the issue occurs, my laptop becomes completely useless and it is deeply affecting my life. Lenovo’s only solution? Send the laptop to their repair facility. But that’s not a real fix. The problem might not appear while it’s there, and given that it’s likely a software-related issue (not tied to updates), there's no guarantee they’ll even diagnose it correctly. Nobody seems to know what causes it. At this point, I am being forced to buy another laptop because Lenovo refuses to acknowledge what is clearly a design or manufacturing defect. I am extremely disappointed with Lenovo’s lack of responsibility. This issue has caused major disruptions in my work—right now, for example, I’m abroad and had to come to a friend’s house just to use an external monitor and write this review. Will I ever have my laptop back in working condition? Not even God knows. I will buy another and, certainly, not a Leonovo.

Posted .Hey NanciT,
We're sorry to hear that you are having such trouble with your Slim Pro 9, and we apologize for the inconvenience, frustration, and disappointment stemming from this.
If you'd like, we wish to help by providing some troubleshooting steps to resolve this.
First, boot the laptop in Safe Mode. Restart your laptop and press the F8 key repeatedly until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears. Select Safe Mode and press Enter. If your laptop boots successfully in Safe Mode, it indicates that the problem might be with a driver or software. If the issue resolves itself here, we then recommend using an external display to update system drivers using the following steps:
1. Open the Settings app > Select the Windows update tab > Select the Check for updates button. 2. Open the Lenovo Vantage app > on the homepage, select the Check for updates button.
If after the available updates are applied and the system restarts, yet the issue persists, we then recommend restoring your system using the Lenovo DDRS recovery tool. A reinstall of the system image would restart the device to its "out of the box" experience.
To do so, here's a link to the Lenovo DDRS webpage: (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht103653-lenovo-digital-download-recovery-service-ddrs-download-the-files-needed-to-create-a-lenovo-usb-recovery-key). Please note that doing this will wipe out all data/files that you have on this device, so ensure to back them up first on a separate location to avoid data loss.
Please update us when you can regarding this, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us.

Insane battery drain under full load
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When using the included 170w charger my laptop discharges at a rate of around 50w when gaming or using other high-performance applications. That gives you just over an hour of use even while plugged in, making this device essentially worthless.

poor efficiency and battery drain under load
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very poorly optimized for battery life, best to be plugged in but then if you plug it in with the 170w power adapter and run a game or something the battery will deplete. this is very bad for your battery. you will need to buy a 240w charger or more
