My daughter loved it

When my daughter first heard that her favorite actress Anne Hathaway was going to be in the movie she wanted to see it and then when we saw a featurette about how they sang onstage, as opposed to actually singing in the studio and acting on the set, she was obsessed. We saw it and loved it. Once the Blu Ray was released we got it and relived it once again. Good family time

I'm not a big fan of musicals, but even I liked it. Cinematography is excellent as is the acting, Blu ray transfer is great. I agree with most people that Russell Crowe is miscast. Weak singing voice failed to convey the inner conflict of Javert. Amanda Seyfried's voice isn't the strongest either but her part isn't large enough to hurt the movie. All in all a great movie.

I really enjoyed this movie. Going into the first time I saw it, I didn't know what to expect, hadn't seen the musical before, and the music did take a little bit to get used to, but ended up loving it, and now listen to the soundtrack quite often also. I ended up seeing it 4 times at the theater, with different people. One of the best movies I have seen in years.

Movie was excellent. Great hollywood representation of one of my favorite broadway musicals. Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway were stellar! Sasha Bara Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter were funny and perfect in their roles. Russel Crowe was a perfect villain, except for his singing. Wow. My 2 year old son sings better. But otherwise, an awesome production!

As a fan of the musical, I have to admit I had very high expectations for this particular movie adaptation. Unfortunately, the movie was an overall disappointment. My biggest issue is how they framed a lot of the shots: mainly close ups, with the character just standing there singing to the camera (park and bark, we call it in the theater). Now, if you're going to do that, you had better be sure that the singers are amazing, because they're all there is on screen, and in this particular case, they weren't. The cast did the best job they could for being professional actors and not singers (Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, and Samantha Barks were all really good, Russel Crowe really wasn't). While ultimately I can forgive less than Broadway caliber singing if the movie is visually compelling and shows me something I've never seen before or imagines the movie in a way that you just can't in the theater, and It is in this respect that the movie, for me, fails. I have lots of friends, though, who have no familiarity with the original musical and think this movie is one of the best they've ever seen, so I'm fully ready to admit that maybe it's just me. But for my money, I'd rather just pop in my Blu Ray of the 25th Anniversary concert or the even 10th Anniversary concert again instead.

This is by far the best version of Les Amis available. The previous version done a few years earlier with Ulma Therman & Liam Neeson wasn't even a musical. Ann Hathaway stole the show when she sang I Dreamed A Dream. I don't know how she did it. I don't think there was a dry eye in the theater. Still gets to me even on DVD. Must see at least once.

This was my first time watching this movie, and the whole time watching it I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. At times it had a few places that it was predictable but other than that the movie is great and deserves all the awards that it won at the grammys. Great acting and great movie...Now I want to go back and read the book!

Finally a major movie based on the musical. It alarms me people trashed this film. This film is FANTASTIC. Remember folks rarely will you get the same cast and to compare is wrong. I FOR ONE LOVED IT and majored in musical theater.NO I am not tone deaf either. Anne Hathoway got lots of great reviews.

Most of the singing is good, but Russell Crowe, who has the second most important roll, has a very weak voice. The director's decision to record singing on set, rather than in a studio, adds to this problem. If you like the music, I would strongly suggest getting the 25th Anniversary Concert, rather than this, or at least, in addition to it. The outdoor scenes, especially the beginning and the end, are very well done.

Fantastic movie adaptation with outstanding music and cast. It was on sale, along with The Wolverine, so I bought both. What a contrast in parts for Hugh Jackman. If you love musicals, you'll love this one. The sound is phenomenal and the choreography is spectacular. Don't miss it.

This is a great movie and I'd recommend it to anybody who has difficulty understanding the plight of those less fortunate. Excellently written and acted--it doesn't stand up to a live performance but is probably the best you could do short of that. I particularly liked the emotional impact of the finale staged on the barricade.

I loved this movie so much! I knew it was a musical, but didn't realize until I was actually watching it that it was all singing, with no talking. Once I got over my surprise, I really got into the plot and enjoyed it more than I expected! (My teenage daughter and nieces, however, didn't like it because of the singing.)

Having seen just about every dramatic film version made of Victor Hugo's great classic I hesitated for a long time before buying this musical version. I needn't have worried. This adaptation makes for a great musical without diminishing the power of the dramatic story in the least.

I went to see the movie when it was released in the theater and somehow hadn't gotten around to purchasing a copy. This version has not only the movie, which is excellent, but all those fun behind the scenes things that can help you love a movie even more.

Normally vocals like singing are recorded separately, then dubbed over the top of the film showing the voices singing. But in this film all the singing you hear is the actual singing they were doing during the filiming. I.E. it's like a stage play, and all the cast members did a really great job with it.

I was not able to see this movie in the theater, so I bought the DVD when it was on sale. I was surprised at how well it was done. The singing does not always equal a Broadway show, but combined with the acting it was not bad. The movie is a close second compared to when I saw the musical in London.

I've experienced Les Mis on Broadway twice but wanted to share the experience with my wife. This movie is very well done and often better at capturing the raw emotion of the characters and plot. Hugh Jackman and Russel Crowe where both fantastic in my opinion as well as the young Cosette.
This is a very long movie and while I enjoyed it, I will probably pass on watching it again.

Always try to catch Les Miz live on stage so I wasn't sure I'd like the liberties taken with the songs in the movie but it really worked. It was nice not to have to watch the lip synching as the actors had to really sing as filming was done. Makes for a better watching experience.
Love love the movie!

Excellent adaptation of this classic from Victor Hugo. Great cast Russell Crowe is excellent as Javert and Hugh Jackman is fantastic as Jean Valjean. Jackman's singing is unbelievable especially after his surgery.
