iPhone Users Beware - Compatibility Is Misleading
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the 2TB Lexar SL300 specifically to record video directly from my iPhone 16 Pro Max. The Best Buy listing prominently says it is compatible with USB-C smartphones and highlights its fast write speeds, but it does not clearly state that Lexar limits iPhone compatibility to file transfers. That is a major distinction. When recording through Apple’s native Camera app, I repeatedly received slow recording-speed warnings and the SSD would disconnect, causing my phone to fall back to internal storage. I tested it both directly connected to the iPhone and through a 10Gbps USB-C hub with the same result. This is not a cheap SSD, so discovering this limitation only after troubleshooting and after my return window had passed was extremely frustrating! It may be perfectly fine for file transfers and general storage, but if you’re buying an SSD specifically for direct iPhone video or ProRes recording, choose a model that explicitly supports it.
