Brings back good memories
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was excited by the thought of this unit and that I'd also able to play my old cassettes. When the unit arrived, the "expert" (read 18 year old) took over telling me I'm too old (I'm 59) to know how to set it up. So, I sat back to watch the show and I was greatly entertained when the child finally decided that perhaps reading the instructions may help. The child found the setup a bit weird and thought the instructions could be more detailed but if you are old enough to have had cassettes the first time around, you shouldn't have problems. We both agree that the sound is nice, very clear and open, it doesn't muffle anything. Bass is very good. It connects to Bluetooth very well and played my old cassettes with no problems. Of course, the funniest part was seeing the kid's face and knowing they were biting their tongue about the kind of music I used to listen to!

Very versatile compact Hi-Fi package
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was skeptical at first when I found this book shelf mini Hi-Fi system. Set it up in the living room of my one bedroom condo. Have high vaulted ceiling there. Sound quality similar to the standard, factory installed, 6 speaker stereo system, in a 2005 Toyota Prius. Bass effect could be a bit better tho. Have some CD’s and even audio cassettes from several years back. All played fine. System couldn’t detect my old, iPod Touch 4th Gen. I was able to play a MP3 from a USB 2.0 flash drive tho. I used to listen to FM radio a lot. Selection of stations not too good where I live. But I can get the same content I listen to, when I’m driving. Wish the two speakers didn’t have to use wires. Speaker and main console fit under my TV stand. Other speaker went into my old stereo system cabinet. Nowadays I like to stream free, Google Play Music radio stations, so can make greater daily use of this system. Pandora was also fine. If U find this system on sale @ Best Buy for $149.99 with free shipping, U are doing pretty good IMHO. This is a Gr8, compact sized, Hi-Fi system, for those who don’t have a lot of room to work with. And the price won’t break the bank.

Nice overall, retro.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great multiple playback radio system. I really liked how it has a 3 disc changing system a cassette player for those who still enjoy listening to tapes and blue tooth. The speakers sounds great even at high volume. The system is lightweight so it's easy for traveling and has a modern look to it. It also has an alarm that you can set up. Something I would change is the way the buttons are designed. They don't light up so it's a little confusing until you know how it works. I would give this product a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Spectacular sound, awful design
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are looking for a compact hi-fi system that does a capable job cranking out good clean sound with a good measure of chest thumping bass, it hard to go wrong with this one from LG. Sure, this company is better know for making appliances and TVs but I have to admit I was surprised by the sound that came out of this big black beast. Despite being mostly plastic (the bass reflex speaker enclosures are particle board) the sound quality is amazingly rich. Good highs, decent midrange and very strong bass, especially with the "bass blast" option turned on. The built in collection of equalizer settings should suit most tastes. I found the POP setting, with its brighter highs, and STANDARD, which os more a even sound, were best. But thats somewhat subjective. That said, there are a lot of caveats associated with LG's Mini Hi-fi system. Let's start with some of the design choices, most notably the decision to build in a cassette player. I dont know about you but I have not listened to a cassette in decades so am not sure why anyone thought this was a good idea. Almost as odd is the three-disc CD changer. I havent seen one of these things in a very long time either but it is a convenience if you still listen to CDs. The final throwback feature is an FM radio but that's fairly common in these type of devices. You can forget about AM, however. For some reason, that was not included Fortunately this device also supports more modern options, like bluetooth. So you can stream from your phone, tablet or other device. Sound quality in streaming is not as good as direct from CD but is convenient since it makes it easier to pick and choose the music you want to hear. The device also supports music on USB flash drives (much better sound quality than via bluetooth) but navigating the content is nearly impossible since there is no LCD screen. Just a small scrolling text window that shows the name of song playing. Not very useful if you have hundreds of songs. You can skip folders and songs using the remote but that's about it. Oddly, there is no "random play" option, just something called "Auto DJ." Which you might think is the same thing but is not. It does play random songs but cuts them off in mid play to jump to another song. Not sure why anyone would want to do that. Speaking of control, that is perhaps the worse aspect of this package. The oddly designed remote is focused mostly on the CD player and has no controls for switching to bluetooth or any other mode. You have to do that on the unit itself, which is also a problem since the markings on the buttons you must use to do anything are all but invisible. Everything is shiny black plastic with not very contrasty gray control icons on each control button. They are not backlit so you better memorize them. Even worse, there are no directions, just a book that list what all the buttons are, (important since you cannot see them on the unit itself) . Still its not all that helpful if you want to something as simply as setting the built in clock. I spent a good bit of time trying to figure that out and finally gave up. The remote has buttons that indicate you can set an alarm too but obviously that is of little use if you cannot set the clock. Bottom line. This thing is a real winner in the sound department, but a real loser in the design department. If you can live with all the design shortcoming you should be very please with the sound that comes out of it.

Brought back memories of the 80s in its function
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I was a young lad in the 1980's, my father bought a Magnavox Stereo system. It was an all in one system, not with separate components. It had a front loading tray cd player (pretty new for the time), a turntable for records up top and a dual cassette deck, and of course am/fm radio. What this brings to mind is the time before wide use of computers to organize, burn, buy, music in its many forms. If you wanted to copy a cassette, you popped one in and recorded it onto the other deck, etc. This LG system is similar. You can plug in a USB flash drive, and record from FM Radio (no AM radio, sorry) to USB MP3 file. You can also record from CD player to MP3 files on the USB drive as well. I couldn't try the functionality out with the Cassette player (this will be I'm sure the newest device most of us have ever seen with a Cassette player!) because I couldn't find a cassette anywhere in the house, even the "old time" boxes, which did have a few VHS tapes of recorded Seattle Supersonics games from the 90s, but I digress. You cannot record from Bluetooth to USB. The Bluetooth function worked well from my phone. The 3 cd changer operated just like you would expect it to, no surprises in functionality there. The sound is adequate, depending on the source, it can become a bit muddled as you go up high in volume, which is fairly typical for these types of speakers (small wire, low ohm, basic speaker in a particle board box). There is a jack on the front of the unit for auxiliary input (same size as earphone jack on smartphones). There is also RCA right/left input jacks on the back of the unit for further hook up.

Simple and Powerful Music Machine
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It was easy to set up this "Loudr" unit as there is only 4 pieces to it--the main unit, 2 separate speakers, and the remote. The speaker wires are permanently attached to the speakers and need to be connected with easy color-coded connectors on back of the main unit. All the controls on the remote are mirrored with buttons in various places on the mail unit. Oddly, the buttons on the black, glossy unit are also black making it hard to see them. The cassette player's buttons have their function identified with small symbols and are also hard to see in reflective light. The CD player tray holds 3 discs and you can select from them from the remote. The sound is awesome--lots of bass from these speakers. There are preloaded sound schemes like rock, pop, and jazz as well as as "Bass Blast" setting. It sounded best on "rock" to my ears. The cassette player worked well and blasted out the Ramones "Pleasant Dreams" from 1981 without a problem. The USB record function worked easily, but the 128kbps Mp3 result was a little thin and airy compared to higher quaility ones made with other devices and software. The other sound inputs worked well (USB drive, portable device mini-jack, Bluetooth.) Unlike some other Bluetooth devices, you can't advance the tracks from the Loudr's remote. (I had to control the tracks playing from my phone when playing songs streamed from a PC server.) My four stars is really all about the sound quality. It is crystal clear and fairly well balanced on most of the sound scheme settings and packs quite a punch.

Used Reward Points
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is replacing a stereo component system I purchased in 1988. The old system was still working but belts and solder joints to connectors were in constant need of repair/replacement. Keep the Akai turntable. Just bluetoothed the iPod nano (7th generation) and connected right away. Also, a big plus there are Phono inputs on the back of the unit, so I integrated our turntable to this unit. 3 disc's and was happy the system automatically goes to the next CD when the other is finished. FM antenna reception is crisp and clear. This unit has a lot of good preset sound options and a manual auto equalizer. USB input and charger is a nice touch. My Wife will use the CD changer and turntable, I'll load from a thumb drive, she will listen to NPR and I will blue tooth, so this system fits both our needs. Very happy with the purchase, will it last 30 years like my Marantz system, doubt it. But since the CD drive is gear driven, it will last long enough, as I put the soldering station away in the garage and throw out the belt kits.

Great, but ugly
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off the sound is awesome. It sounds great, and every music source option is available. AM/FM, 3-CD, cassette (yes, cassette, but no 8 track), USB, bluetooth and Aux The only drawback, is that this would look great in a teenagers bedroom, and not something you would want to showcase in your living room or anywhere else out in the open Look carefully at the picture before you buy, and make sure that it meets your aesthetics before you buy. If you can live with the looks, you will love it

Great sound from a small system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you’re in the market for a new mini system, and want a bit of nostalgia, pick this one. It has a cassette player, for all of you who still use them. Playing any audio from any input source sounds clear, and it’s definitely a good addition to an office space or your garage. This would also make a great gift for your college kids dorm room. For such a smaller system, I was truly impressed with the sound quality. I’d definitely recommend this.

Was expecting more..
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced my roughly nine year old Sony stereo system that was very similar to this system, just slightly smaller in physical size and wattage. Since I was getting a new, more modern and powerful system, I was expecting something really nice, but I ended up fairly disappointed. As far as sound quality, I am pretty unimpressed, I was expecting a clearer sound, however after scrolling thru the sound options more than a handful of times, and changing the equalizer settings on my phone when using Bluetooth, I was never able to get it to sound as good as my old sony sounded. Something is just missing from it no matter what I play thru it and I honestly can't place exactly what it is. If you are getting this and don't have much space for it, maybe hold off. I fortunately have offset speaker shelves for the speakers and I put the unit on my dresser below the shelves, but honestly the unit itself is very big. It seems like there is some empty space in it and that it could be much smaller. Maybe a 3 disk cd changer is not necessary? But I will say I LOVE the bluetooth function. I use bluetooth nearly exclusively now which was a big reason I chose to get this unit. Connecting is very easy, and it even turns the unit on automatically when you connect to it. The instructions are absolutely horrible. All it really is is a few diagrams with labels. I know your probably thinking who cares about directions? I rarely ever need them, but for example this product has a function called Auto DJ. Don't know what it is. Still don't know what it is. Go to the directions and all you get is an arrow pointing to the auto dj button, with a label saying that is the auto dj button. Still have not figured out how to set the clock either. Overall I would like to see LG make some improvements to this model and its instruction manual before I recommend it to a friend.

Rock out
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's a monster! The sound quality this bookshelf sized system delivers, that is! Any new audio system gets tested with Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" in my household. And this system is very capable in delivering premium audio quality. The fact that you can also stream from bluetooth devices is also a plus. Playing/recording to USB sticks is new to me (well, recording to one) but this unit makes it a breeze. Even a cassette deck is included if you want to make a good ol' fashioned "mix tape". This unit is DEFINITELY worth the price it is currently going for. If you are in the market for a bookshelf system, with great sound - tons of features, at a reasonable price - this one is for you! DO IT!

The Boom Box is Re-Imagined
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since my son is discovering my large CD collection of 70s and 80s classics, I wanted to get him a music device that could play CDs AND cassette tapes. It's hard to find a quality device that can do both in this day and age. LG has delivered by creating a boom box for today. This is a serious music machine. It weighs 21 pounds and produces excellent sound quality. So good, we've had to have him turn the volume down on several occasions! This is a great machine and it's sold at a fair price for the value it provides.

No satisfied.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The stereo does not have AM radio (even though the product description says it does), and it seems "plasticy".
