Doesn't come with a needed cable.

I purchased the last one in the store, which was an open boxed item. The monitor looked perfect so I made the purchase, but I had reservations because someone did return it. This product does not come with a DVI-I Dual Link Cable that is needed to get the native resolution of this monitor, and what made it a problem was that Best Buy does not even sell the cable! Also the Best Buy employees that I dealt with were not familiar with the hardware required to make it fully functional. The combination of these two issues made the lack of an included cable an issue that I hope Best Buy will resolve. I went to another store and paid way too much for a cable that can be had for a fraction of the price online, but I wasn't willing to wait a week to have everything up and running. I have to believe that the person who returned this unit must have found the cable issue to be too much of a problem. As for the monitor, the wide aspect ratio is very cool besides being very functional. I often have a spreadsheet open while researching the Internet, so it's very convenient to have the windows next to each other without overlapping. Games also look great in the wide format. The overall height of the monitor is truncated compared to what I had, so I do miss the vertical height a little. Of course that would be helped by going to the next size up unit, but then the cost goes up substantially and you must also have a video card that can handle the even larger display for gaming. I had to knock down the rating one star for the lack of a cable in combination with lack of support through Best Buy. The truncated height is also a bit of a negative, but not a deal breaker for me. Overall a very nice monitor.

    Productivity Increaser

Easy install on a two year old generic windows 7 machine. The split screen software that is included is awesome; it makes the huge amount of real estate easy to utilize. The bright accurate sharp colors are very good for photoshop work. The pre-existing hot keys we use for zooming in and out work well even in split modes. We us this size monitor to more easily work on very long excel sheets. Probably fabulous for gamers. This monitor is a game changer!

I purchased this yesterday, normally I wait a while before doing a review, but this monitor posed an issue that I felt needed explained so that others will have a better time with it. After originally setting this up it would only work for a few minutes and then the screen would go black and say that the signal was lost & it was entering power save mode. This was extremely frustrating, even for me that this is my day job of fixing computers. How to avoid my headache: Before you remove your old monitor, update your video drivers. I am using an ASUS / Nvidia GTX750ti and was running the ASUS version of the drivers. I had to remove them and install the NVIDIA version from their website. During a fresh install, it is an option, choose custom and remove the check marks from the 3D drivers. The update process did not require a reboot, but I always do. After that, I then installed the 2 cd's that came with the monitor as the pictorial instructions pointed out. However the cd's did not autoplay and I had to go searching for the installation files & drivers. The monitor driver appears to not be a driver that windows 7 pro will recognize because if you try to update it afterwards it will revert to a generic Microsoft driver that does not display correctly. As far as recommending this, I would only to my techie friends that know what they are doing. Non-techie's I would point them to a standard monitor. Info on the interfaces: Display port, this is a relatively new connection that many new computers will have. 2-3 years old, Dells, HP, Gateway. So if you computer has one then you will need to purchase the cable separately. DVI-D Dual Link, This requires a special cable that is not included and you will have to order online. I found that they are extremely rare here in Boise, Id. You will need to have the Dual link to support the full resolution. A normal DVI-D will be at 1/2 the resolution and your screen will be close to unreadable. Your video card must support Dual Link. HDMI, I had always thought they were all the same, their not. An HDMI cable is included with the monitor. However you will need a video card that will support the newest version of HDMI, otherwise it will be at 1/2 of the resolution. All three connections will plug in, but as you can see if your video card does not support the higher resolution then you are out of luck. PBP mode, This allows you to plug in two video feeds into the same monitor and from the little bit of playing it splits the monitor into two pieces and each feed supplies separate sides. It is cool because you have two physical monitor connections, but no seam/bezel between them. The snag to this is that you need a newer computer that has 2 of the 3 video feeds required.

I upgraded from the 25" and couldn't be happier. The 25 was just a bit too undersized for comfortable viewing. Mac Minis work like a charm with this monitor, provided you obtain the correct Mini DP to DP cable. Unfortunately Best Buy doesn't carry them and the Mini DP to VDI cable I originally purchased wouldn't display in full resolution. I really wanted the 2650X1440 resolution, but all of those monitors are far more costly, so the 2650x1080 was a good compromise. I'm not sure why some reviewers say Windows doesn't have 1280x1080 natively, so two windows won't fit next to each other. I usually have two remote Windows systems open at exactly that resolution and they look great. One thing I noticed with this system out of the box was the absolute intense back light. It was set at 100% from factory and I turned it down to 50% and it's still brighter than my old monitor. It may be too bright at full power, unless the monitor is in a very brightly lit room. If so, the backlighting on this monitor is definitely up to the job. LG's done a great job with this monitor and are providing a great alternative to dual monitors for us business use people. Not having to stare at a seem between two monitors is very welcome, and this monitor does a great job of replacing a dual monitor setup. With most things though, this format isn't for everyone and it does take a week or so of getting used to. Does exactly what I need and that is to view multiple documents, or terminal systems side-by-side.

Great Monitor But Be Careful Installing

    Posted .

This is a fantastic monitor, but be careful installing it. DO NOT unhook your old monitor, and hook up this one. If you do you won't get a picture no matter what you do. YOU MUST FIRST RUN THE PROVIDED SOFTWARE WITH YOUR OLD MONITOR STILL INSTALLED. This configures your computer, and also automatically changes the screen resolution to 2560 X 1080, and installs the split screen software which allows this monitor to function properly. The instructions are pictorial, and do not tell you this. Overall the instructions are very poor in this regard. It also does not tell you anywhere on the box you must have a video card that supports this high screen resolution. If you don't the monitor will not function properly. If you have the right video card, and install the software BEFORE you try hooking anything up, you'll be in good shape. I'm not tech savvy and I struggled. But once you have everything in place, this is a FANTASTIC monitor for the money. It is very bright, sharp, and clear. Great for my aging 61 year old eyes.

    Great for gaming

I bought this solely for gaming. I had a 27" 16:9 monitor previously. I mostly gamed on it, but I've tried a 42" HDTV. The ultrawide is the option I like the most. I prefer to sit at my desk and do the old fashioned keyboard mouse PC gaming. I like wider monitors over bigger monitors. There's something in the way my eyes/brain process information. It's just better to do FPS gaming on wider screens for me. This monitor is WONDERFUL for this purpose. I use an R9 290X and can max out all games, which look beautiful on this monitor. It has 2 HDMI inputs and a DVI input. There is no analog DSUB (blue monitor plug) input, but I quit using those long ago. One minor gripe - every time I start my computer, while the bootup sequence runs, the monitor gives me a message that I have to close out of by pushing the select button the monitor. The message tells me I'm not at the optimal resolution. My PC won't be at the optimal resolution during the boot sequence until Windows loads. Just an annoyance. It has speakers, but they are not good enough for gaming or movie watching. I use headphones. You may want to hook up to some other better quality audio system. Right now the price is great. Price is as good as anywhere you can find online. Come's with software to install. You can select the software in the windows notification tray and size the open windows on your desktop to many options. This worked very well. If I had 4 windows opened, I just hit a button and it sent them to four corners of the screen and sized them to fill the monitor. Very nice. Also works with 2 or 3 windows. Lot's of options. Great accessory.

Seemingly nice monitor, but computer lacking

I have a thousand dollar Core i7 HP desktop computer with 16GB of RAM that I just bought from HP in July. I got it with the integrated video, since I don't play any games other than spider solitaire. Seems that the integrated video, even with the DVI-D dual cable I bought still only has a maximum resolution of 1920x1080, so while the monitor seems nice, it is useless with my computer. Too bad, it seems like a nice (although very heavy for an LED) monitor. By the way, someone else mentioned the message that always comes up during boot that the resolution is not set to the optimal. If you use the toggle button on the bottom middle of the monitor to move the selection to don't show again and then press the button, you won't see that warning every time. Someone else also said that you need a DVI I dual cable, but I think that the DVD-D dual link cable is all that should be needed.
