First, it's great at its primary task: cooling. It allows you to set it as low as 60 so that's great. Overall I'm very happy because I've had a number of ac units in the past and they don't always get the area cold enough or do so very quickly and of course that's the primary goal. Some of the secondary aspects are disappointing though. The hose assembly is cheap: it tends to fall apart when I remove it from the window and the hose is so thin that heat escapes which is working against the cooling effect. But I can attend to these issues with a roll of white duct tape and some insulation so no biggie, it will just look crappy and take up more space in storage later. Also the remote weirdly does not sync with the display, which it warned about in the manual but I disbelieved it. What this means is if you hit the buttons on the panel to knock the temp down a few degrees, the remote display will show the previous setting. Or if you do these things on the remote but the signal doesn't always get to the machine, the remote display has changed but the ac unit display hasn't. In other words the remote just sends output to the device, it doesn't receive syncing updates from the device...which is very odd and a bit inconvenient. The portion that vents to the window is very skinny which is great for security, so there's not enough room to push out the ac plate and break in. Also it will work for windows that don't open far. And it's extremely adjustable in length although just one tiny screw holds it at the correctly length and that's not going to last well so again I'll have to resort to duct tape. It's an unexpectedly small unit and pretty quiet. What you hear is mostly an air whooshing noise; the condenser doesn't make loud noises from switching on and off so sleeping nearby is possible. I've found that it's quieter on carpet than hardwood so I've placed a mat underneath it to prevent the added noise of floor vibration. Overall LG needs to retool some things but I'm happy with my purchase despite that.

Do not buy this or any LG product! I bought an LG portable air conditioner like this one and it lasted all of 3 summers (and the summers are short where I live). After that, it barely cooled at all. I contacted LG, and it turns out that they have very few US repair centers -- none was within 1,000 miles of me -- and they would not make good on the faulty unit. Local repair shop said that it was not built to be repaired by third parties; it was a write-off of nearly $500 after only 3 years. Do not buy LG products. They are cheap, shoddy, and do not last. Get a quality brand like Frigidaire instead.
