The smart remote is a total pain to use. Much needed are number buttons to go directly to a given channel.

We have had this TV for two weeks now and we have no complaints about this unit. Out of the box the picture was dark, only because it was on a default energy saving mode, but after correcting that we realized it has a beautiful picture and offers a lot of bang for the buck so to speak.
Here are the Pros and Cons thus far:
Pros:
4K and 3D with a 1,200pt rating
True 4K at a low entry point pricing
All of the basic apps that you can think of; Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, YouTube, etc...
Easy to use TV remote
Passive 3D technology
Cons:
No Flash supported content or use of Flash when on the Web
Sound could use a deeper Bass tones and Mids.
During setup there is an easy to follow start-up wizard that walks you through all of the settings and with setting up your set-top box, WiFi, and any inputs.
Make sure to take it off of Energy Saving Mode in order to get a brighter picture, and set the TruMotion to your liking.

Sleek, Modern, and Beautiful - Inside & Out

After just a few days, I can safely say that this is the best TV I have ever owned. LG has successfully combined amazing picture quality, a beautiful design, and an easy-to-use interface into one affordable package. If you are looking for a TV with most of today's cutting-edge features, be sure to give this set a look. (This review is for the 49-inch model. The 55-inch model would likely be very similar.)
****Pros:****
-User Interface (webOS): I've never seen anything like this on a TV before. The design is beautiful, fun, and intuitive. Gone are the days of trudging through the depths of confusing menus and settings. Everything you need is nicely and colorfully laid out on the bottom of your screen, easily accessed by pressing the "Home" button on the "magic remote." The initial set-up screen was able to program the magic remote to work almost seamlessly with my TiVo Roamio.
-Picture Quality (2D, 1080p): Personally, I found the picture quality out of the box to be incredible. I would highly recommend turning off the "Energy Saving" function during the initial set up; otherwise, the backlight will constantly change brightness depending on your ambient lighting conditions. I also reduced the effects of the TruMotion feature to minimize the so-called "soap opera effect." Otherwise, colors are crisp and vivid. Sports and fast-moving scenes have little-to-no blur. There are only minimal signs of flashlighting or light-bleed in the bottom-right corner of the screen, but I really have to be looking for it to even notice. Broadcast content from my TiVo looks great.
-Picture Quality (4K, Netflix): Admittedly, there isn't much 4K content available at the moment. However, I watched a few episodes of House of Cards as well as all of the "Moving Art" clips via Netflix. Simply put, it's stunning. It's certainly not as big of a leap as Standard Def to High Def, but the 4K content that I have viewed is noticeably sharper, clearer, and more detailed. It's a shame that there is not more content available. I know you can download 4K movies and clips to a USB drive to view on this TV, but I have not yet had a chance to do so.
-Picture Quality (3D, Blu-ray): This is one of the main reasons I bought this set. I have an older 1080p passive 3D TV that essentially allows each eye to see only a 540p image. Being a 4K set, this new LG TV upscales 1080p content to 4K. So for 3D content, each eye is receiving a full 1080p image. As a huge fan of 3D, the difference is very noticeable and appreciated. I have seen only minimal signs of ghosting when sitting at an angle from the TV. Otherwise, I am very pleased that my collection of 3D Blu-rays will look better than ever on this set.
-IPS Panel (viewing angles): Viewing angles for 2D content are great. Even at a near-90° angle, I can clearly see the content on the screen with only a minor reduction in colors and black levels. Very impressive.
-Design: The TV itself is slim, stylish, and modern. The stand is easy to assemble and install. Even the box and packaging are nicely designed. Cables and accessories aren't just thrown into random bags: there is a separate box included that nicely organizes the manuals, cables, 3D glasses, etc.
-Apps: Most major apps are included: Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Vudu, YouTube, and more. All of them load quickly and work seamlessly with the Magic Remote.
****Cons:****
-Magic Remote Responsiveness: I sometimes have to vigorously shake the remote for the cursor to appear on the screen. Not a huge issue. Maybe the included batteries need to be replaced. However, I've noticed a few times where the remote will stop working for about 20 seconds while a message appears on-screen that the "remote control software is being updated." This usually happens when I open up apps such as Netflix or Vudu. Again, not a huge deal, but it seems to happen more frequently than it should.
-Speakers: Nothing incredible. Pretty standard bass levels. If you're not an audiophile or won't be watching many action movies, they're certainly passable. I'll eventually install a soundbar and wireless subwoofer.
****Conclusion and Tips:****
Overall, I am extremely pleased with this TV and would recommend it to anyone looking enter the world of 4K or 3D at an affordable price. There are certainly better, more expensive TVs available with better image processing, better black levels, better motion handling, etc., but if you are willing to compromise, you will likely find many years of enjoyment from this TV. Having owned Samsung and Sony TVs, I will say that LG's webOS interface is much more enjoyable to use.
TIP: Update the TV's firmware as soon as you receive it (Settings > General > About This TV). The latest update substantially improves black levels, local dimming, and overall responsiveness.

I have had this TV 2 weeks and price matched Amazon's price so saved me almost $200.00. 4k is great. The up convert and the 3d is amazing. I have 12 pairs of glasses from the past and looks amazing to say the least.

Great TV for bedroom

This TV is perfect for a bedroom. The 4k is crystal clear and LG remote is easy and fun to use. My only complaint is the refresh rate. I have the 9500 in my living room which is 240 hrz and it makes a huge difference. Overall though a quality TV at a great price.

I'm not going to discuss the 4K aspect -- everyone knows we don't have 4K content yet, and this was a deliberate "future-proofing" purchase. The clarity of the picture is great and once you turn off the energy saving feature it will be bright enough.
I have the tv on the stand and placed in a "nook" above the fireplace. Since this stand goes across the entire bottom of the set, there really is no place to put a DVD player so that all of the buttons are accessible and the tray can open up. Other tvs with a center stand would have been better for my setup.
Three things are making me take advantage of the 15 day return policy: the remote, the (lack of) app selection, and the horrible internet connection over wireless.
First, the remote. The "magic remote" style is like a Wii....many people are not going to to mind this and might even prefer it, but not me. I hate having to try to be so precise with aiming the wobbly pointer and hitting a button to select. You can hit another button to get an on-screen number pad, but the magic remote design is to have a scroll wheel that lets you move up or down one channel at a time. REALLY?? Ugh, not for me.
Second, the app selection. It does have Netflix and Hulu Plus and Youtube and some others, but you can't get Pandora. It won't even allow you to download it from the web. The LG store has an option for Rhapsody, but that is a paid service. I use my free Pandora to have any sort of background music on while I work or putter around the house. Others who only use their phone or iPod or stereo for this will not have the same reaction, but for me this was another dealbreaker.
Now...I can probably buy a standard remote as an accessory and play Pandora on my laptop instead. But my final straw was the horrendous connection that I experienced. I have spent more time buffering on Netflix than I thought humanly possible in today's overly connected day and age! First, the tv had to go through setup and get the latest software from LG (understandable), but this took over 3 hours to download (my first clue). Then as I am trying to catch up on Dexter over Netflix, I spend about 5 minutes watching and 1 minute buffering. Another 7 minutes watching, and another minute for the next buffer. My previous tv ran off the very same wireless with my streaming provided through the Roku box, so I know that this performance is the tv and not my wireless setup or signal.
So again - great picture, but not good enough to outweigh the other issues that I have. I did not keep it long enough to try the 3D. If these issues don't apply to you, just make sure that you check other prices online so that you can get Best Buy to do a price match -- I did save about $150 off the advertised "sale" price using this guarantee.
