Broken Plastic Hinge

Deeply disappointed with the machine design. The washing is adequate as some clothes still come out not dirty but not really clean either. The biggest problem is they mounted a huge, heavy lid on plastic hinges. Normal use after a year cracked one of the plastic hinges and now the lid doesn’t close without having to lift the lid up. It’s a design flaw that can’t be fixed. It could be replaced but if it’s with another plastic hinge then it’s just going to break in a year again. Looking online I saw multiple reviews stating the same thing. Also, the complicated cycles doesn’t allow for a simple “gentle cycle” option. You have to chose another cycle then manually change the spin, temp, time settings.
Hi, Chadd. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We understand your concern about the LG Washer (WT8400CW) model and the challenges you've faced with both the lid design and cycle settings. The soft-close glass lid, supported by plastic hinges, can crack over time due to stress or misalignment.
To fix the lid, check the hinge bushings and dampers, as these can often be replaced individually. If the lid is cracked, a full replacement may be necessary. Ensure the washer is on a level surface to prevent extra stress on the hinges.

Doesn't clean. Leaves a water line on the clothes. Deodorant marks still on clothes. Never had this problem with my previous washer that had an agitator. I've tried using more water button. I've tried washing half a load which defeats the saving water aspect but stop doesn't come out clean. Horrible.
Hi, Kevin. Thanks for sharing your experience with the LG Washer (WT8400CW) model. We understand how important it is for your clothes to come out fresh and fully clean after every cycle.
This model uses TurboDrum technology and a high-efficiency impeller, which cleans by rotating the drum and water jets rather than using a traditional agitator. If you're seeing residue or water lines, one step you can try is selecting the Heavy Duty cycle with Warm or Hot water and adding the Extra Rinse option. Also, make sure to use HE detergent in the recommended amount — too much or too little can affect wash performance. Not what they used to be

The washer worked well for 11 months and does a decent job at what it is designed to do. After a load of light clothes, I noticed the top lid was loose and after looking around, saw that the door hinge had cracked. There has been no physical damage to the product, except for a very cheap appear plastic hinge that connect the lid to the frame. LG support claims this is a physical user issue and will not fix the now worthless washer. I regret buying this washer and after owning LG washer/dryer combos for roughly 20 will likely never buy another after this experience. Be weary and do your research first. After looking online, it seems that my experience is not an isolated incident.
Hi, there. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We understand your concern that a unit like the LG Washer (WT8400CW) model doesn't meet your expectations, especially after only 11 months of use. We really aim to provide reliable, high-quality products that go above and beyond what our customers need.
We want to help you out with your concerns, so let's see how we can resolve the issue with your washer. One thing you might want to check is the hinge alignment to make sure it’s snug and secure. Sometimes, if the door gets bumped or moved around, it could put a bit of stress on the hinge, which might explain some of the issues.

This LG washer cleans well, but it’s too rough on clothes. Even on gentle cycles, my clothes come out stretched or damaged. Really disappointed with that so I returned product.

Sadly wasn’t a fit for me

I was sadly disappointed in this model. I have previously used an LG that lasted 12 + yrs. So I was excited to return to this brand. Unfortunately I did not review the reviews before purchasing. This model seems to have a problem with tearing up and stretching material. From jackets to bed sheets. I attempted to try different settings but it still had the same issues. I instead returned this and paid the difference for a LG front loader. The customer service and delivery men were so professional and it went smoothly.
Hi, Nelly. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the LG Washer (WT8400CW) model. We understand your concern about this model that didn’t meet your expectations, we’re glad to know that you found a solution that works for you by switching to an LG front loader. We strive to provide reliable, high-quality products and ensure a smooth experience. To minimize fabric wear, we recommend using the Delicate or Bedding cycles for sensitive items and ensuring the load is evenly distributed to reduce strain on fabrics. If you experience similar concerns in the future, adjusting the spin speed and water level settings can also help protect your items.
We appreciate your kind words about our customer service and delivery team and are thrilled to know that part of your experience went smoothly. Should you need assistance with your new washer or have additional questions, feel free to send us a private message on social media @LGUSSupport. We’re always here to help. ^Juvy

Easy to recommend this one — the capacity is huge!

I bought this washer to replace a 2017 Samsung model. I chose this LG primarily because I wanted the largest capacity top-loader I could find. I’ve had it for a couple of week now and so far I’m very happy with my choice!
PROS:
• Huge load capacity; easily fits my king size duvet. Yet the overall machine has exactly the same footprint as my old 4.5 cu. ft. washer so it does not take up more space.
• I love the deep fill option and use it when I’m washing bedding, pet beds, and other bulky items.
• Easy to operate — the washing cycle options can be selected with the knob, and “add-ons” to your cycle are selected with buttons on the right.
• It has more temperature, soil-level, and spin options than any of the washing machines I owned before this one.
• The cycles don’t take as long as they did with previous washers, but my clothes are just as clean; if not more so.
• The app is a nice feature — I like getting notifications when my laundry is done. There is also an option to download more cycle options, but I haven’t used any of those yet.
• Clothes always come out clean.
• It’s quiet.
• It’s a nice looking washing machine.
• Fingerprints are easily wiped away from the surface with a dry microfiber cloth.
• I like being able to choose my own song that plays when the load is finished (available through the app).
CONS:
• There’s no “soak” option, which is honestly my biggest gripe. I wish LG would add this as a downloadable option at least. I can live without it I guess, but I do really miss having it.
• When the washing cycle ends, I have to power off the machine before I can open the lid. I would prefer that the washer powered itself off automatically after the cycle so I didn’t have to do that extra step before opening the lid. (I tried to get around this with remote start + smart routine, but the remote start has to be reactivated manually at the washer every time the machine is powered on again, and it can’t be activated until after it’s been loaded because the lid locks once remote start is on. So it’s actually more work to accomplish this with a smart routine.)
With the cons, my actual rating for this machine is 4.5 stars, but half star ratings aren’t an option here. Despite my few cons, I’m very pleased with this washing machine and would recommend it. The pros far outweigh any of my complaints, and huge capacity really is a quality of life improvement for me.

The LG washer works great. It’s very easy to use. Large capacity fits the king size comforter. I’m not a big fan of the black lit, it can be hard to see the controls but my laundry room is not well lit. The machine is pretty quiet and cleans the clothes really well, even delicate clothing.

I absolutely love this washer! From the first load, I noticed how efficient and quiet it is compared to my old machine. Clothes come out fresh, clean, and almost dry thanks to the powerful spin cycle, which saves me so much time in the dryer. It’s very user-friendly, with simple settings that make it easy to switch between quick washes, deep cleans, and delicate cycles. The design is sleek, and it even fits perfectly in my laundry space. Honestly, doing laundry feels less like a chore now. Highly recommend this washer to anyone looking for quality and reliability!

I love this washing machine! I had to figure out that if I needed an extra spin on some fabrics to hold the words “spin” down for three seconds. otherwise, this machine has been super easy and intuitive. Clothes come out clean and handles an insane capacity and it’s super quiet.
The installers recommend filling it about half full and m doing blankets on the deep fill setting. The amount of clothes that I can clean when it’s half full.m is perfect, Too many more and I wouldn’t be able to fit them in the dryer.
We had our previous washer for 10 years and I hated it from the week after I bought it. It was a front loader. I’m so excited to be back to a top load machine!

This washer is incredibly efficient, using just the right amount of water while still getting my clothes spotless. It runs quietly, which is a huge plus for me since my laundry room is near the living area.
The multiple cycle options are perfect for different fabrics, and the spin cycle does a great job of removing excess water, cutting down on drying time. I also love the sleek design—it looks great in my laundry room!
Overall, if you’re looking for a reliable, high-performance washer that’s easy to use, I highly recommend this one. It has made laundry day so much easier!

It works. Cycles not Flexible

We purchased the LG8400C washer based on it's top load feature and capacity. The interior is huge - literally you could put a small person in it. It's functioning better than our prior front load LG as the clothes come out feeling clean and not feeling like they are still coated with detergent. The cycles are pretty obvious and it operates fairly easily with selection. BUT, it really lacks flexibility in cycle selection. For instance, if you want to run the "Normal" cycle and then add an extra rinse the unit automatically shifts into "Deep Fill" mode. I don't want Deep Fill I just want an extra rinse. Anyone whose had organic chemistry knows that more extractions are better than doing a higher volume of fewer extractions - duh!! Apparently the engineers who designed this unit never had that class. Anyway you CAN select variations in water temp, soil level, and spin speed. The lights on the display that show what cycle features you've selected are a bit dim and if your unit is placed near a window, it can be hard to read these. The black top of the unit shows every spec of dust, lint, and fingerprints so if you are OCD about it looking sleek, this is not the unit for you. If I had the flexibility to do this purchase over again, I would reconsider getting a unit that has better cycle flexibility. We had no way of knowing when we stood looking at this one on the show room floor that we would not be able to just add an extra rinse without it kicking into Deep Fill mode. So yes, I'm a little frustrated with the lack of flexibility. Still the clothes come out clean and it operates pretty quietly in my opinion despite spinning at very high speed so the clothes dry quickly afterwards.

Modern styling, large capacity and simple usage all made for a great impression. Since using the wash is clean, machine is quiet and I am very satisfied.

I bought the set.
PROS
*Easy installation
*Fit well into my small laundry closet
*Full size machines; can fit queen size comforter, probably a king
*LOVE that they sync (you need to set), so the dryer auto sets to what the washer just ran
*LOVE that you can set additional dryer time from app
*Can check time left and other details from the app
*Lots of personalized settings, they sing me a little song when done
*Beautiful and work very well
CONS
*Best buy vent hose was junk; don’t buy it!
*LG tech support via chat runs multiple chats (rep admitted 3 when he posted in wrong chat
window)
*When you DO contact tech support, all they do is search the manual, so it’s faster to download
the electronic version and do a word search yourself. If it’s not in there, they don’t know.
Example: You can control the machine remotely, BUT if you do you can only control it remotely
from the app, so they don’t have the instruction to activate that in the manual.
*No extra hot cycle; turned up my water heater instead
*Some cycles have water temps you can’t change.
OTHER NOTES
*I use the hot cycle A LOT, and noticed there was condensation building up under the washer.
It’s a small laundry closet w/no ventilation. Problem solved by putting machines on risers and
running a portable fan when washing w/hot cycle.

Love this large capacity top load washing machine. It is better for my space than a front loader. I am able to allow the wash basin to air dry after a wash to prevent mold. Front loader just did not work in my space. My old washer was a front loader and because of the space it was in we could not keep the washer door open. Mold developed in the basin in the old washer. This is quite and washes clothes exceptionally well. Highly recommend!

Great capacity for someone like me who does multiple loads a day. It's quiet and efficient...and I love the song it plays when my laundry load is complete.

This washing machine beat my expectations. My previous washer (different brand) was pretty loud and didn’t do well when it came to getting the clothes clean. This washer by LG was in excellent condition. When you turn on the machine and start the wash cycle, you almost do know that it is running. It does an amazing job at getting the clothes clean, even with the boys in the house ;) I haven’t explored the WiFi option yet, but will update if it get around to it. The buttons are simple and there aren’t too many options that will make washing clothes overwhelming. I do appreciate the drawer where you put the detergent and fabric softener. It’s not flimsy like a few other washing machines I checked out prior to making the purchase for this one. Oh yeah, remember it has touch screen buttons, so make sure you don’t have anything like the residue from the detergent on your fingers when you go to pressed to the start button.
