    returned for the eg9600

One month ago, I bought the 55 inch EF9500 based on Cnet’s review and preference for the flat screen over the curved. After I purchased the TV, I learned that the flat screen would not be able to download the HDR app from Amazon to view and take advantage of the HDR 4K content. even without it, the 4K content that I viewed on Netflix and Amazon was very clear and the color was dynamic. The sound was good through the TV and my Marrantz SR880 receiver. However, I exchanged it because I wanted to be able to download the HDR app that only the curved EG9600 can do. I verified this through LG customer service. After one month and being able to compare TV’s, I could not see the difference in watching 4K content from Netflix or Amazon with or without the HDR app download. But, I am glad that I exchanged the TV for the EG9600. Because the TV sits inside an armoire, the curve allows me to view it better. The TV does appear to have a clearer picture when viewed from an angle at a distance compared to the flat screen. For me, the big distinction is the sound. Through my receiver using the pro-logic setting, or just straight through the TV alone, the sound quality seems more dynamic and fuller. Also, the separation through my speaker stereo system seems more responsive. Since most of my TV is through cable, streaming Netflix, or an occasional rental CD, I did not see any loss of picture or darkening in corners as Cnet saw when evaluating the EG9600. The EG9600 meets my expectations and I’m very happy with the set. If not for the sound, I would have been just as pleased with the EF9500.

    The Perfect TV!

I got a really good price on this TV via Best Buy price matching a competitor and I couldn't be happier. The picture is fantastic and it has a great user interface. The 3D is stunning and I love watching 3D movies on this TV. I've only had it about a week and 1/2, but I'm blown away. Video games are amazing on this TV too. I've had no issues with input lag myself and just love this TV for any content that I throw at it. I definitely recommend getting the LG Extended warranty for this TV though, better safe than sorry!

    Expensive, but Worth Every Penny!

Once I found all the documentation I needed on the Internet to properly set up this set (not much information packed in the box), I can say that this tv is truly the best set I've ever owned. Sharp, vivid colors really stand out. Smart TV features are great. Be sure to purchase a soundbar to go with it as the built in sound is ok but not great. Yes, a $5,000 TV is quite an investment in entertainment, but if you can afford it, the old saying "you get what you pay for" really proves true for this set.

    Crushingly disappointed

For the past 8 years, I have been rocking out a Pioneer Elite plasma and waiting for the right moment to "upgrade". I thought this TV was it, but it's not. After reading reviews you would think that this picture would be far superior to anything else, but I just don't see it, and certainly not for the price. Yes, the TV has excellent black and white levels, but that's just about the only compliment I can give it. I'm pretty sensitive to motion having watched an elite plasma, and this TV has very noticeable judder. Perhaps it would be different if I were used to watching LEDs, but even CNET'S review lists the judder as a bad feature of the TV. A change in settings doesn't help much. The soap opera effect is very evident when watching FX and other similar channels. Sports look decent, but the up conversion is a work in progress to say the least. Some scenes look incredible, and others look absolutely terrible. You can visibly see the TV trying to unblur an image through its upscale. When scenes change on HGTV, you can see the image retention for a brief moment. Maybe I'm being too critical about this TV, but for the hefty price, you should expect a lot. If the TV were half of this price, I'd probably give it a much better rating. But for now, 1080 looks like garbage on this TV. Very grainy when you sit anywhere near normal viewing distance of the screen. If we were looking at strictly 4k material, this TV couldn't be beat. Seriously... In the store the picture is ridiculous! But for now, save your money and don't waste it on an oled technology which clearly has a loooooong way to go before you can even remotely consider it "plasma-like". Really sad that the plasma technology is dead now that everyone wants to compare themselves to it. For now, spending huge amounts of money on a 4k TV seems ridiculous until more 4k material is out. Sigh.

    There's Nothing Better

I've been a high-end SONY XBR fan for years and recently decided to take the plunge into 4K. I assumed that I'd end up with another SONY, but decided to give Samsung and LG a look as well. Samsung's 8000-9000 series televisions are very impressive in the store—they have very compelling 4K demos. So I went home with a Samsung JS8500. After completing an ISF calibration, I watched Shawshank Redemption, a film with exquisite color gradation. It looked ok but not great. The overall color balance was fine, but the shadow areas were strangely translucent at times, and skin tones seemed all over the map. So I went back to Best Buy and gave the LG OLED models another look. On this second visit, one thing I noticed about the LG is that there is no off-axis image degradation, even at extreme viewing angles. It's the kind of thing you'd forget to check while in the store. On all of the Samsung models, the image washed out when viewed more than 45-degrees off-axis. So, I returned the Samsung and went home with the LG OLED. I have watched lots of content on my LG OLED and haven't touched the color controls since I got it. I simply put it in Movie mode and left it there. There is no question in my mind that OLED is a superior imaging technology. Everything looks superb on this television. The dynamic range and color depth is breathtaking. I have not experienced any image juddering—as mentioned by a couple of other reviewers. (I suspect that their source is the problem. I'm using a Denon AVR-X4200.) As there were apparently some manufacturing flaws in the early production of this TV, I purchased the optional Best Buy 5-year service plan which includes full replacement if a problem crops up. Worth considering. Lastly, be sure that the store gives you the special LG wall mount. It's supposed to be included with the TV. Generic mounts will not work with this model.

Best TV I have ever experienced

I purchased a Samsung 4k curved screen TV in September and returned it because I didn't care for the curved screen, and no matter what I did, I was never able to get the picture's color hues to match my preferences. But from the moment I turned on the LG UHD OLED TV, I was nothing but impressed with the picture, and I have not yet found it necessary to adjust the color. In the Cinema mode, it was perfect out of the box. I have never experienced a television picture this good. When watching a HIGH DEF program, I feel like I am in a movie theater. The UHD upscaling is incredible. To say the least, I am very impressed and extremely satisfied.

    Poor WiFi and Motion Issues

Very pleased with picture in most cases. Problems with motion, especially during fast panning. Can not read player names when camera moves even slightly using expert 1 defaults. WiFi is very poor, 1 mbit per sec using speed test app. Netflix is almost unwatchable. My Roku right next to TV is pristine. Speed test via my tablet right next to TV is over 50 mbit per sec. I am a fios customer. I have an AC router, so that is up to date. I expected better from a TV I paid 3K for.

    Quality At Its Best

This is a quality TV. By far the best in television experience I have ever had. I do not want to repeat all the great things about this TV by other reviewers but do want to tell you about the remote and wall mount. Remote: nice handheld with very good user interface. Only 3 complaints. 1. it would be nice to be illuminated 2. the pointer is annoying where you have to always shake it to get back on track 3. no menu on remote. It is on screen menu. Not horrible but a nice to have on key pad. The good is I have only one remote. I can use it for all my components. Overall its a keeper. Now for the wall mount. I have used many over the years and the LG mount is very high quality easy to mount and it articulates. It's heavy duty and I trust it to carry the weight of this expensive TV. I mounted mine 44" from floor to bottom of mount. All you need to do is tape the template to wall. Be sure to pre-drill the holes. Your TV will be a just the right hight for viewing.

Finally a TV that can replace the plasma, very beutiful picture. You can go onto Utube and find professional settings for a perfect picture. Good for LG for taking the plunge and mass producing the OLED technology, this is going to be a Christmas favorite….add it to your list.

    Switched from a bad Samsung

We traded up to this LG after getting fed up with light bleed problems from the Samsung 4K UHD. The LG's blacks ARE very deep, which is cool, but we didn't think the picture was as crisp as the much cheaper Samsung. We played with the settings a bit and are satisfied.

Beautiful picture 2nd time around, meh sound

I chose this TV because it's mounted in an alcove over the fireplace in a 14x16 room with seating only along the walls, so I needed a wide viewing angle. The picture was awesome viewed anywhere in the room. However, when I got a chance to look at some 3D images from the LG Website, noticed the left side of the screen was blurry if eye level was anywhere below mid-screen. Called LG, tried a few things over the phone (their phone support folks were very knowledgeable) which didn't give any solution, so they sent a tech to verify (this was the first OLED he had seen). Ended up returning this TV to BestBuy and they sent a new TV (no hassles at all). This one is perfect in all video aspects. Both TVs had "thin" sound, so plan on additional speakers to get sound worthy of the video.

TV met all my expectations. It takes a bit to master the remote. Follow CNET's calibration settings. Really makes the picture that much better. I used Geek Squad to install, not trusting myself to get it right. They were great. My only regret is not getting 65", but 55" is great. I look forward to trying 3D this weekend.

    Beware of Darkening

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

4.5 stars on picture quality, but 4 stars overall because all along the edges on the left and right sides of screen are slightly darkened by weaker luminousity. Its goes almost 2 inches from the edges. The LG rep told me these tvs were made that way. maybe lied. 1 week left to decide if this is a deal breaker. DO NOT set the tv viewing mode to APS which is auto power save mode. Use any other like Standard. Otherwise the entire picture will become darkened against your settings. It's the tvs way to adjust brightness called Automatic Brightness Limiter. As usual, The Walking Dead looks terrible on LED tvs.

I've had a 42" Panasonic Plasma for about 12 years now, and it's been a great living room TV. After researching what's available, I decided to take the leap and get the 55" flat LG OLED. I hooked it up yesterday and was immediately impressed. I can't wait to get home from work today and fire it up!

Well all I can say is that I wish I could afford the 65 inch but I can't lol I enjoy quality and I am an HD fanatic. I previously had purchased LGs 65UH8500..Though it was good and near future proof.. I just knew I was missing out on having the best possible picture. And as a big movie watcher.. I just had to go back and exchange it for this tv. So Quality over Size..no regrets yet, though I miss the 65 inch display. Owell in a couple of years all major brands will have oleds and prices will be more competitive and affordable.

Has tons of judder when streaming 24p HD video from apple tv. Not as much from blurays however, but still there. It can be fixed with the Tru Motion, but with added "soap opera effect" Also OLED's signature deep blacks picture turns grey when the brightness level is turned up passed 55 (out of 100)
