    Experience with LG 65UF8600

This review is for the LG 65UF8600 UHD TV which I have now had for 3 weeks. I will use comparisons from the LG 55EG9100 OLED 1080P which I had for 2weeks before I returned it for the UF8600. First the good about the 55EG9100 OLED: It is extremely sharp. It's contrast is absolute and there is no backlight bleed. Blacks will be absolutely black and Whites will be absolutely white with no contamination from each other when they are side by side. Colors are very vivid. As a note, the curved screen may make off center viewing better, but it also is a problem with the way it handles reflected light. The bad about the 55EG9100 OLED: It is so sharp that it also accentuates the digital noise that you get in the shadows in movies. Especially evident in older digitally shot movies and TV programs. This will not be a problem with brightly lit programming such as news, talk, game or any programming that is brightly lit and shot with really high quality cameras. Also it has a really tough time with warm scenes such as darker rooms with warm lighting. It tends to really turn facial tones excessively ruddy in this type of lighting. This can be partly compensated for by creating a custom picture mode for these conditions, but it is a hassle always changing picture modes. It also has a problem with gradiation of the shadow areas. As the background of scenes become darker it will eventually come to a point where it just cuts these areas to pure black and that is as distracting as a slight backlight bleed from the corners of an LED LCD. Very little is pure black in movies and the OLED tends to cut too many dark areas to pure black. These problems were disconcerting with the programming that I like to watch and thus the reason for exchanging it for the 65UF8600 UHD. People who may still prefer the 55EG9100 OLED 1080P will be those who watch a lot of graphically produced programming, who tend to watch mostly well lit network programming, who absolutely will not put up with any backlight bleed and who have no interest in UHD 4K programming. Now to the LG 65UF8600 UHD 4K LED backlit TV. First of all if you don't have or don't subscribe to HD TV don't even consider any UHD 4K TV. That being said the UF8600 does a good job of up converting HD programming to 4K. In some instances it may actually be somewhat better quality than my previous 2014 model LG 55LB7200 when playing HD programming, but it is not as good when playing 480P DVDs or older Standard Definition programming. This will be the case for all UHD TVs. There comes a point when sharpness will be lost when up converting low resolution programming to four times its original resolution. Thus my warning to not consider UHD 4K if you aren't feeding it high quality programming. I will start with the bad for the UF8600 as the good well outweighs the bad. It has some backlight bleed. It was quite noticeable in many areas at the perimeter of the screen. This is not restricted to this model or LG. All LED backlit TVs will have some customers who complain of this. Spend some time googling this and there are even some complaints with Samsung's new 9500 Full Array backlit model. I was able to eliminate most of the backlight bleeding by repetitive wiping or massaging the screen with a micro fiber cloth. Google it. I still have a bit in the upper left corner that really is only obviously visible in the black band that frames 21:9 format movies or standard def programming. No the UF8600 will not produce the absolute blacks that the OLED will, but if you are watching the movie and not the black framing strip, it has no problems. Black clothing will be black and it will display excellent gradiation of the darks in the shadows. Also it only has 3 HDMI inputs. Although it has many preset viewing modes, none are what I found to be what I preferred, but the adjustment menu is well laid out and with some research or experimenting you can set each mode to your own preference and I suspect that this is true for all TVs. The good: Excellent off center viewing from the IPS LCD. Normal off center seating will not start to degrade until 45 degrees and is still viewable at even more severe angles. Vertical off center is also excellent. The color prime engine is excellent. The radiantly perfect reds that this TV produces far outweighs any complaints about it's inability to produce perfect blacks. It is absolutely viewable in a well lit room and the knocks by the reviewers about its poor contrast when the lights are out is hogwash. Where LG shines over its competition is its operating and app menu. Absolutely easy to use and I love the magic wand remote. The background noise that results from shooting at high ISO or gain, in dark conditions, is very smooth as is the background blur that is so prevalent with today's camera work. If you like bright brilliant whites you can have it with this TV unlike OLEDs which are borderline and Plasmas which absolutely suffer from less than stellar whites. Don't base what you see in the displays at the big box stores. They all show canned feeds that make the TVs look perfect. The real UHD programming that you will see at home will not be anything like the showroom. House of cards in UHD is about as good as normal HD programming from your cable or satellite provider on your 1080P TV. UHD is only an upgrade because most of the internet provided feeds by Netflix and especially Amazon is subpar to begin with. Hulu which seems to have the highest quality feed, although Hulu is 1080P only, looks great on this TV. The real UHD feeds that are only short clips on YouTube are stunning and I suspect 4K Blu-Ray will be stunning. Remember if you don't have at least 20 MB down, and you better be able to feed it with an Ethernet cable at that speed, you may not be able to stream 4K programming. In summary, the LG 65UF8600 is a great TV. Not perfect, but great. You are buying this TV because you want to be ready for UHD, not because it will make what you are watching with your 1080P now look better because for the most part it won't with the exception that it will probably do a better job reproducing accurate colors. You are buying this TV if you want 3D without having to keep glasses charged. The passive system works great and the glasses are cheap. You are buying this TV if you want great viewing angles, great color, smooth transitions of shadows and a great remote and operating and app menu. I had the option to take this TV back and after a lot of research I didn't think I could have done any better with any other TV with the exception of possibly the Samsung 9500 Full Array Backlit model and it was twice the price at $4000.00. I am not claiming that this UF8600 is the best TV, but if viewing angles and affordable 3D for multiple viewers is a priority, then I think that this is a good buy.

I only give it 4 stars due to not being able to watch some shows. For example, can not watch the WWE Network from the Web Browser cause LG Tvs do not support flash player. Kind of a bummer or else it would be 5 star

I went into the store to purchase a new 4K tv with a different brand in mind. However, this LG was suggested to me, I was able to watch previews and had them plug in a movie so I could see more 'normal' content. I was very impressed in store and from the salesperson's recommendation I purchased the tv. Unfortunately, when linked up to cable (I have ATT Uverse) I was disappointed with the upscaling and picture in day to day use, it actually was significantly worse than my 1080p! Long story short, I returned this for a 65 inch Samsung 8 series UHD and have been incredibly pleased.

Before I owned this TV, I had an LG 47-inch 1080p 3D TV. Though I said I'd never need to go bigger, I needed to go bigger. I like and trust the LG brand, so I was certain I'd get an LG TV, and ended up choosing this one, having in mind that it would last me several years. The primary reason for picking up this TV was for how long it could last me. Namely, the size and the resolution. A 65-inch screen is perfect for me, someone who watches a lot of movies and plays a lot of games. Though it's a 4K TV, it can scale to 1080p perfectly. Unfortunately, there isn't much support for 4K at this moment in time, and it's clear why: 4K is massive. Current Blu-Ray technology in the hands of consumers doesn't support files as large as these for media such as movies and games, so the only support we have right now is broadcasting and streaming. Then there's the data rate and bandwidth for cable through much of the U.S.; it's lacking and hardly measures up to the average of many other countries. This results in some artifacting when watching fast-moving or very fluid pictures. But I'll stop there with this slight tangent; the reason for explaining this was to say that this is new technology that is slowly but surely getting into the hands of consumers, and once there's more of it out there, we will see more support for 4K media. For now, I can enjoy beautiful YouTube videos of nature. The picture quality that this TV provides is superb. Everything I see looks great. The colors are nearly eye-popping and rather impressing compared to my previous TV. The 3D is just the same as my previous TV, tested with TRON: Legacy 3D. The sound output seems average for a TV, though I don't use the sound from the TV itself and instead utilize an LG sound bar. My previous TV was not a Smart TV. It's not imperative to me, as I have multiple consoles and a Fire TV, but it's very convenient being able to start up Netflix without having to do so through another device first. Lastly, the Magic Remote that comes with the TV is wonderful. I like it a lot. The cursor mirrors the movement of the remote very precisely, and I enjoy being able to push a button and speak a source (such as HDMI2) to instantly access a different source than what I'm on. Sometimes it will automatically change to the new source, for instance if I turn on the corresponding device, but I haven't figured out why sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase. LG hasn't failed me, and everything that comes packed into the TV is perfect for me, someone who is somewhat deep into visual media.

I bought the tv wanting another brand, but settled because of cost. Could not get the voice to match the lips, I was told and read it was because I use an external speaker system. I also was not real happy with picture quality. I ended up returning it and buying the one I wanted originally, the 65 inch samsung 8500, that's a great tv.

My first Blu Ray. I bought the Blu Ray at the same time I purchased the LG8600 4K TV. Installation was fairly simple and no problems since I just followed the on-screen prompts. However I did find it a problem that users manual had only pictures.. It contained very limited technical information. After about month I finally bought my first 4k nlu ray movie. When I put the movie in it came up with 1080i setting. Hmmm. Then I went to Best Buy web site I found out that LG does not have a 4k capable blu- ray product. Seems they didn't sweat the details. They make a 4k TV but not a 4k Blu-ray. I guess this is prime example of buyer beware..
