I purchased the 79UB9800 after seeing it outperform the Panasonic 65" AX800 (as well as several other tvs) that it was setup next to. This tv has better colors and the sharpest picture without a doubt. The salesperson was great and let me try out and compare the 3D. All i can say is WOW!! You will be blown away when you see how good 4k passive 3D looks upscaled on this tv. No crosstalk at all. The ips panel looked great from a side view holding black level from a side view the entire time 10x better than a nearby non IPS curved 78HU9000 samung. However, head on viewing, i think the 78HU9000 had slightly better deeper blacks. There was a feature on the panasonic AX800 called letterbox that seemed to be similar to samsung's cinema black. At first i thought it worked wel when the tv was looked at by itselfl. But then i noticed that it dimmed the black bars only so far and i was able to match the AX800's dimmest point with a few quick picture adjustments found within the 79UB9800. I guess edge-lit tvs can only dim so far as the leds are always partially lit. Same for the samsungs cinema black. The magic wand wii style remote is the best of the bunch. I wish LG included a 2nd full size remote that contained shortcuts to options like 3D and picture settings. I ended up purchasing one on eBay so problem solved. The side bar speaker system on this tv is by Harmon Kardon and easily beats out the panasonic and samung offerings. It stayed distortion free, even on the highest level. Reminded me of a Bose system. The store had a LG 4K usb demo playing that simply looked amazing. Although this didn't mean anything except 4K is awsome as everyones 4K demo also looked great. My prior tv was a panasonic vt30 plasma and the 79UB9800 definantley has noticably better picture quality. I highly recomend this tv. The 4K upscaling and motion chip offer much smoother motion handling than the panasonic and samsung offerings. Trumotion set to Clear is the best and APS picture mode duplicated that dimmed down, rich black feeling of a top plasma tv. Buy this tv, its awsome in all respects.
