86" of goodness BUT had defects, had to exchange

I decided this LG Nano Cell 9 Series TV model, because it checked the boxes I wanted. I actually wanted to go OLED but at the current moment any OLED above 65" is just out of the price range. So my requirements were: - 75" or bigger - Fully Array LED Backlight - Local Dimming - Dolby Vision / HDR - Natural color processing, NOT oversaturated picture like Samsung - Great blacks and contrast - Bright enough for day time viewing - Sensitive for dark room viewing - Good off angle viewing - Priced under $3k This TV pretty much covered most those requirements for me even if it wasn't top of its class in those categories. Especially since I purchased on sale for $2800 while it was normal in the $3200 range. The TV is pretty heavy but it's expected from a TV this size. I was actually pleasantly surprised that the speakers are actually very nice sounding. You may not have to turnoff the sound bar or surround sound system for everything now. All was well and good but then discovered some issues and defects. There was an issue with local dimming where it would get confused on where to turnoff a particular area, dim, or light. So you would get uneven and unnatural blotches and patches of black on dark scenes. It was very noticeable and very distracting. I then also found a light leak on the bottom left edge of the TV which didn't go away. Checked some reviews and it was a common thing found on this model. Obviously this is a defect from the factory or possible even through shipping as I'm understanding shipping and handling TVs of this size are high risk for potential issues. I decided to do an exchange because the defects were not acceptable especially since I didn't purchase the extended warranty as it was WAY too expensive for the 5 year at $700 range. Best Buy was very accommodating with the process. While I was pretty happy with doing an exchange or a replacement, after some more research and really needing out on TVs and specs I actually decided to go with a Sony because of the picture quality. Me being in the photography, video, and graphics business I have a personal affinity for it. After really comparing, Sony to my eyes had the best representation of what the creator intended. So I was decided between the Sony X900F 85" or the Sony X950G 75" at the under $3k price point. I actually ended up going with the Sony Master Series Z9F 75", the top of the line LED TV for Sony before going to the 8K line of Master Series. Best Buy at this time was doing a major sale on it from $4999 to $2799. It was a no brainer for me, I sacrificed going from 85" to 75" for better picture quality. The Z9F TV is amazing TV, the color and the picture is just fantastic. I'm watching movies I've seen a ton of times and they look like how they are suppose to, it's actually pretty crazy. I'm seeing colors and gradings of movies of how they were intended and I never saw them before. Only complaints on the Z9f is that there is notable blooming (in black bars and fonts) and it does distract but it's tolerable for the incredible picture quality. Back to the LG 85" TV. I actually do recommend it. It's a great TV and you are getting a lot of it for the money. Just be sure you get one that is defect free. For reference I've added a few photos of the defects. YMMV

This was A replacement for my Panasonic plasma 65 inch television. This thing absolutely dwarfed the 65 inch. I was very concerned about picture quality although after getting this all set up and to my liking. I was very very impressed of picture quality and how easy it was to set up. LG by far has the easiest set up process I’ve ever used. I have it hooked up through my AV receiver for the sound however this TVs built-in sound is very very good which surprised me. I got this as an open box item and saved about $600. I was very nervous/skeptical about buying an open box and And scared that there would be some sort of damage or malfunction. I am very pleased to say it was just like brand new I’ve had absolutely no issues, so the cost savings is something for everyone to consider as open box worked great for me. I am an avid football fan both college football and pro football this TV has an absolutely amazing picture you will not be disappointed. I’m just an average Joe and paying this much for a TV practically put me in divorce court capital LOL. Honestly I am very happy with my purchase. I paid $2500 for the Panasonic 65 inch back in 2012 so with that said it was a good deal.

I decided on this TV after reading reviews by Independent Audio/Video companies comparing the LG Nano cell to Samsung's QN85Q70RAFXZA and Sony's XBR-X900F. The LG performed better than both the competitors on the reviews and scoring. Our TV room is on the upper level and gets a fair amount of light in the evening. The LG was supposed to perform better in brighter rooms and it does not disappoint. I have a Sony XBR-65X900E in our bedroom and it is a great TV. The Sony was our main TV for the last 2 years. It was hard to make the choice to switch as the BB sales people were trying to talk me out of it claiming the Sony's and Samsung's were much better TV's. However, my first 4K TV was a $650 LG 60" TV 4 years ago and it has worked flawlessly. We now have a dedicated entertainment room do the 86" TV, Marantz/Klipsch 7.1 surround kills it!

I bought an open box LG 86in Nano 9 Series tv and picked up at the Best Buy store. I expected the tv to have zero packaging but it was actually in a box with the styrofoam support in the top and bottom (no side support or protection). The Best Buy staff was awesome showing me how to strap down this monster in the back of my truck, I was very happy it was in a box and I could transport it standing up. The only negative in the buying process was that the website said it was open box but it did not mention any parts being missing, when I got to the store I was told the stand and remote were missing; this was a surprise to me ...but the great staff checked the store and found a remote but alas no stand. We got it home with no issues but since I had planned to temporarily put it on a stand in my BR to store it until my basement is finished I had to shift gears. I had built a faux stack stone fireplace in my basement, 10ft wide and 9ft high with a LED 6ft firebox in the lower 3ft of the FP and I had already installed a 135lb capacity tv mount on the upper 4ft of the FP. Since I dont have a stand and need to test the tv to make sure it works correctly, I decided to go ahead and mount it even though I don't even have sheetrock on the walls or ceiling yet. The specs say 120lb for this 86in tv and it was definitely all that! Plan to have have 4 adults help you mount it. My 18yo grandson and I attempted to mount it straight from the styrofoam base after securing the mounting brackets to the back of the tv but we did not have the strength or leverage to lift the tv 7ft high to reach the mount. After careful deliberation I placed a 3 ft high cart below the mount, we placed the tv on it, repositioned our grip but was still unable to reach the mount. After further careful consideration (I did not want to chance dropping the tv) I decided to place the styrofoam base on top of the cart, place the tv on top of the base which gave me another 12in of height, my grandson and I were then able to get under th tv with our shoulder and lift it up onto the mount ... .SUCCESS!! The TV looks great on the FP, the dimensions over the firebox are exactly what I wanted (see photos). The picture quality is so much better that the lo lower priced 85 or 86in models, since my FP is built at an angle I needed a picture that would not not wash out when viewing from an angle. This tv has a slight reduction in picture quality when viewing from extreme angles but it is light years better than the LG 86in Class 8, or the Samsung 85in Q6 and even the 85in Sony X850. The blacks and darks are not handled was good as I would like, there is no clarity in dark scenes but it is something I can live with at the open box price of $1749, also the apps are a bit janky (these are the reasons for only 4 stars). Conclusion: I am a happy viewer!! The sound quality is very good on this tv. But, as soon as I get the sheetrock up and the basement finish complete, I will be installing my Denon AV system and Sonos speakers in the ceiling, ...I can't wait to view this awesome tv in conjunction with a fantastic sound system!!!

Wanted a big screen but also didn't intend to break the bank on an OLED (and couldn't afford one this size), so after much research it came down to this set and the Samsung. I think either would have been fine. I ultimately decided to go with the LG for the less over-saturated screen and Dolby integration. I couldn't be happier with the picture quality. Sound is good as well but I'm running audio through a surround system so I don't use the on-board speakers. At $3,200 this set is a steal. If you're on the fence, don't hesitate. I was concerned about picture quality on an 86" set and there weren't many reviews on the larger NanoCell TV's and took a leap of faith. You should as well. You won't be disappointed. Attached pic does no justice to picture quality.

Call have quite a few TVs in the house. One Sony, two LG‘s, and now this monster 86 inch LG TV. The purchase was smooth and a pleasure to deal with the Best Buy representative over the phone. The delivery was flawless. The TV itself is amazing the picture is beyond unbelievable the sound from a flatscreen TV is so great that I almost don’t need a sound bar or extra speakers. The TV is heavy and requires two people to mount it which is to be Expected. The magic remote is quite handy all in all this is the best TV I’ve ever owned and have not one bad thing to say about it

I’ve always had Oled tv’s but my room was very bright and I found myself not using the tv often. Since we installed this one, we are always in the family room. Watching football is like watching life size people run around. The picture is a step down from oled, but it functions great in our bright room, so it’s worth the trade. I would recommend this purchase.

Bought this TV on a recommendation and its worth it. It is HUGE over the FP, and the colors are spectacular. The controls are a little weird and I dont think anyone has the "app" thing completely figured out yet, but its worth the hassle of erasing and re downloading an app every once in a while to experience this beauty. My kids think its a Movie Theater screen! lol

Originally purchased the 86” 8070 side lit non nano model, which was great for the money, but Side light seemed to struggle a little with regards to contrast levels on non 4K sources. This TV is an 9 out of 10 in my opinion, as nano vs. OLED completely eliminates what appears to be Mildly noticeable light bleed (or White blotched areas) while watching scenes with Lots of black or extremely dark Background. Again, these imperfections are extremely mild, and are present/occur only about 2% of the time. This TV is a solid buy, a worthwhile upgrade, and a great value at this price point.

TV is HUGE! Great picture quality. The internal speakers are satisfactory. Connect your sound bar prior to hanging the tv on the wall because the optical port is difficult to get to; however, the several HDMI ports are easily accessible.

We got this 86" TV to go in our new living room, upgrading from a 55". Words cannot accurately describe how MASSIVE this unit is. When it arrived, it made my smile go from ear to ear! Check out the attached picture (my husband is a big 6' tall guy, and he looks short next to that box!). Ginormous? Check! For such a big unit, set-up was VERY simple. And the support base has railings with a lid to cover all the cables running through the back, making it very neat and tidy. You do need two people to get it up, though, as it is heavy for its sheer size. . Picture quality is fantastic. Colors are vibrant and watching from the right distance, it feels like you're at the movies. I complemented this TV with an external LG sound bar, and the experience is awesome. The TV automatically detects your peripherals connected via HDMI, so setup for the Xbox One, cable box, etc. was a breeze. This TV easily connects with my phone, and the internet connectivity is super fast. You don't really need a Roku or other devices, as the resident apps are very fast. I also love some of the extra features, such as the art gallery. It projects artwork or pictures on the screen and it makes the TV look like a picture right out of the museum, so it doubles up as a decorative piece when you have guests. The remote is actually good and very intuitive. You can speak to it and it will activate the TV functionality. You can also point and click on your screen, as if it were a mouse. I've had this TV for two months now, and I couldn't be any happier! I'm a big fan. **I purchased this TV at a discount, in exchange for my honest opinion. Having said that, please know that every word in this review is an accurate description of my experience**

First off, I must compliment Besy Buy on their return policies. They picked up this TV and returned my money toward a different TV purchase. This TV has beautiful viewing angles, bright colors, good upscaling with the alpha-7 processor, HDMI 2.1, and an amazing 86” size panel for $3,000 or less. It’s $1,000 cheaper than competing 82”-85” LED based TVs. But there is a big drawback... This TV had less than 100 local dimming zones, and the IPS panel that provides wider viewing angles none-the-less seems to leach out more light around the pixels. For me, watching movies with borders between dark and light just became unwatchable, especially compared to the older and smaller OLED based panel we have in another room. For the money, I expect better performance for watching 4K HDR content; this panel simply cannot control the borders between black and light. It turns those areas into a foggy gray block. The final blow was watching movies with my wife. She asked me why there were gray blocks around some areas of the picture. Answer: Because I bought the wrong TV. For those who just want the biggest gaming TV for the money, this is it! The colors and HDR are great with a PS4 Pro... but overall it doesn’t overcome the problems for TV viewing in the age of 4K HDR. Thankfully, Best Buy provides excellent customer service and a generous window of time for Elite Plus customers to return a product.

I had the opportunity to install and utilize the LG 86-inch NanoCell television in my home. Due to the enormity of this television, we opted to utilize a heavy-duty flush wall mount during installation. For this install, two people, minimum, are required, as the television weighs 120+ lbs. My husband and I were able to install our flush mount and hang the 86-inch NanoCell in about 2-hours--from start to plug-in (we opted to snake wires behind wall for aesthetic reasons). Once physically installed, the LG's AI ThinQ platform walked us through set-up and enabled us to sync our cable box, sound bar and gaming systems to the new television with a mere few button-pushes. The smart capabilities of this LG television allows for easy platform access to our favorite apps- Netflix, Disney+, Amazon, etc. After about 20-minutes of software set-up, we were able to behold the utter brilliance of the LG 86-inch NanoCell Television. Instantaneously, we were blown away by the impeccable image quality of the LG 86-inch NanoCell display. The sharp, 4K HD image quality, featuring outrageously bold colors and the richest of blacks, made it feel as though we were present in each scene. Featuring Cinema HDR/Dolby Vision technology, sound is crisp and clear. As we began exploring the televisions platform more-in-depth, we were amazed by the t.v.'s full enhancement capabilities, including options for full-array dimming, screensize adjustment, prefabricated color filters, etc,. Remote control use is intuitive, and the remote itself is responsive to both physical and vocal commands. With remote shortcuts to the cable guide, Netflix, etc., point-and-click access to our favorite programs has never been easier. Overall, the LG 86-inch NanoCell has proven itself to rank superior in the realm of cutting-edge tv technology. With unbeatable HD picture quality that pops , intuitive AI ThinQ technology, and a massive display, this t.v. makes for an absolutely mind-blowing cinematic experience. My family enjoys watching our favorite movies, television series and sporting events on the big screen. My husband raves about his supreme PS4 gaming experience with LG, as he claims the motion-handling is on par. He boasts about the quick response time for fast-paced motion while gaming in real-time and loves that the refresh rate offers clean imagery, with no lag or distortion. Visit the forests of Russia to walk alongside a Siberian Tiger, have a seat at your local arena to support your favorite team, or laugh alongside your child's favorite cartoon character-- all possible with the true-to-life screen quality born with the LG 86-inch NanoCell television.

Screen — it’s big, like reeeeeeal big. Picture — Colors look good once it is setup right and taken off of the store front picture settings. Local dimming LED backlight is so-so and very noticeable in dark scenes (I turned off, looks good without). Remote — works like a Wii controller. Point it at the screen and you get a mouse pointer. OS — LG webOS is mich better than I expected. Native apps on the TV work super fast and allow you to log in with ease. Apps like Netflix, Hulu and YouTube TV all support 4K HDR! Odd design choice of the year— the power cable is a small 2 wire 4 pin header that is attached inside of a panel on the back of the TV. If you want to hide the wires like most people you will need to open the TV up and remove the power cable first. This shouldn’t be a design that exists in 2019. Fine TV if you want a large screen with a nice picture and don’t want to drop it 10k on it.
