The LG PK5 Bluetooth Speaker is an excellent choice for someone looking for great sound quality and portabilty.
Setup and Design
The speaker feels very well made and was very easy to put in use. All that is required is to charge it and then pair it with another Bluetooth device.
This speaker is equipped with a USB C connector for charging. USB C is the most recent USB standard, and is the first device that I have used to have it. But I am noticing that it is starting to become the defacto standard for newer devices. So don't worry too much about having a new cable to keep up with, because it is superior to the old version and you are going to start seeing more and more of it.
I really like that the volume of the speaker and the device syncs so that when you turn it up or down on your device, the speaker volume goes up and down simultaneously.
This speaker is medium sized so the handle grip makes moving it around a breeze. The grip feels really solid and well made. The exterior has a premium rubberized feel to it which should help protect it if you drop it.
Another nice feature is that this speaker is IPX5 water resistant, which is important if you want to use it outside.
Sound Quality
For a medium size speaker the sound quality is excellent! All of the music I listened too sounded full, accurate, and pleasing to the ears.
The laws of physics dictate that there are limits to the amount of bass and mid bass that can be produced by a speaker of this size, but LG cleverly uses two passive radiators to reinforce the low end. Passive radiators are normally found on speakers much more expensive than this, and really make a difference by making music sound more dynamic.
Another important feature is that it uses 24 bit Bluetooth (known as aptX HD Audio), which provides a signal that sounds better because it is less compressed than the previous Bluetooth standard.
I experimented with the Clear Vocal and Enhanced Bass settings, and found them to be pleasant sounding depending on the song, music type and application.
Verdict
This speaker hits the sweet spot for good sound and portability. It is easy to move around the house, take to the beach or the pool, or wherever else you want to be and have nice sounding music.
Useful Tips
The speaker has a 3.5 mm audio input and if you use it in wired mode instead of wireless, the battery charge will last longer since you are not using the Bluetooth transmitter on the speaker.
The multi-color led party lights are a cool feature, but for around the house I did not use them. But they would be fun in the right party environment. But remember that using them will make the battery drain faster.
According to the manual, two of these speakers can be paired to the same device. I was not able to test this, but this could be useful in a back yard or patio because it would provide a wider sound stage.

---SETUP---
The setup for the LG PK5 speaker requires a full charge (4 hours) before use, so plan ahead before using it. After a full charge, you can turn it on and the bluetooth lights start looking for your mobile device. Very simple.
---FEATURES---
The key feature of speaker is its portability handles, its light synchronization with the music’s beats, and a powerful bass in a smaller package. Additionally, in a 4 hours charge it touts 18 hours of use. It also has an IPX5 Rating out of 8, which means that it is protected from water splashes that come out of a nozzle (6.33mm). You can’t submerge it under water but if you carry it while wet after getting out of a pool or taking a shower, then it will be fine.
---PERFORMANCE---
The performance of this speaker is very good for its price. I have a little over 1300 square feet of a classroom that I teach in. Since my classroom doesn’t have a dedicated speaker system, I took this little speaker. The entire class was able to hear audio for the video I was playing. I walked the furthest I could from where I had placed the speaker and could comfortably hear it as well. One problem sometimes with bluetooth speakers is that they don’t sync up well with video files when characters are speaking. However, that was not an issue with this speaker, as I tested it with music, online video services like Netflix and Hulu, and phone games like Clash Royale. In all instances, the video was properly synced up with the audio.
---EXPECTATIONS---
The product meets my expectations. I enjoy the fact that the audio can get loud without distorting, as was the case when I played songs by System of a Down at full blast. I played around with the enhanced bass button and enjoyed music even more. For video content, there’s a clear voice button that makes the voices of people speaking sound better, and it works. If your phone has Siri (or other voice command prompt AI), there's a dedicated button to activate it. The same button can be used to accept calls, which if you’re listening to music, it will mute your music and switch to clear audio for calls. The caller was able to hear me clearly speaking into the speaker at about 5 feet distance.
---VALUE---
The price for the speaker in terms of value is competitive for other speakers in the same category. This one is a medium in a series of LG PK speakers (the others being the PK 3 and the PK 7). For a classroom or a small outdoor party, it would suffice in loudness.
---APPROVAL---
I highly recommend this product for people who want loudness with portability at an affordable price. The lights sync with music beats you play, so they have a cool added club effect when you play music, adding more atmosphere to a party.

LGPK 5 review
I picked up this product because I needed something a bit waterproof, that I could use outside at the hot tub at my boyfriend’s house, and something more portable for when I travel. Now my first thought when pulling it out of the box was “This is smaller than I anticipated.” But while it’s small, the sound quality is alright. Highs and lows are certainly heard well and it has a decent amount of bass behind it. Low and medium volumes, the quality sticks, but turning it up to max, as with most portable speakers, sound quality deteriorates, so I’m not dinging it for that. From dubstep to rap/RB it does most of my music justice for what I use it for.
The battery life. I have charged it ONCE, and it is STILL GOING. On day one I played it at my desk all day (lights and all) and am listening to it now as I write this. Now I will ding it because LG supplies you a power cable… but no power block. I understand this is common with headphones… but a portable speaker? Luckily, I have enough power blocks laying around it doesn’t matter too much. Interestingly enough it uses USB-C to charge, and I charged it overnight, so that should tell you something about the battery.
It has eight buttons: Power, Bluetooth Pair, Volume -/+ , play/pause. Voice command/light setting, Clear Vocal and Enhanced bass. So I love the fact that the voice command button actuates Siri on my iphone, so that I can leave my phone far away from the hot tub. Clear Vocal and Enhanced Bass do exactly that, it adjusts the audio for better vocals and bass.
Did I mention this thing has lights? There’s two LED’s that shine on the speakers, and I don’t think the lights follow the rhythm of the music, they might, but I couldn’t tell. Either way it’s a nice little touch, for ambiance. Now this is where I will ding it again: There is an app that you can control the lights. However it’s only for android. I’m an iPhone user. LG, really should have added support for iPhones.
So overall, if you want something that’s outdoor proof, and portable, this speaker is the way to go!

Packs a Punch for Great Price!

So far I am really impressed with this speaker! With the sound clarity, features, and design you would expect a much higher price point compared to other speakers. Overall this is a great deal and will leave you very happy!
PROS:
- The clear vocals and enhanced bass really stand out. I have been listening to music from different genres and time periods to get a good grasp and it's worked great on them all. The two sub-woofers on the side bring that much needed bass but it doesn't drown onut the vocals.
- USB-C is a necessity because it is the future of how electronic's interface and it's superior to Micro USB. Many devices are moving to USB-C so it just makes for easier portability when I can charge the speaker with the same chord as my phone and laptop. This is a huge hit for me and a great move by LG.
- The lights are a great addition and it's nice they have different themes you can switch to or just turn it off entirely while leaving the music on.
- I know this is small but having the volume sync up with the bluetooth device's volume is great. Some speakers you turn up the speaker all the way but then turn it up on your phone separately - this is all synced together.
- The extra buttons are nice. Play/Pause or tap Play twice to skip the song, the microphone button to take calls on it or use as Google Assistant through your phone. All nice features I didn't know I wanted.
- It's the perfect size. It's big enough where it still packs a nice loud sound but not too big where you feel like you couldn't throw it in your back pack with ease.
- Finally, the handle design on it makes it really nice for transportation. It doesn't feel cheaply made and gives it a bit of a rough yest sophisticated look for bringing around.
CONS:
- The IPX5 is really nice to have and makes it more durable but I really wish it would be IP67 so you could fully submerge it in water. Not that I plan on it - but it's just a nice feature to have to not worry about it by pools or lakes.
- The design is unique and needed for the bass/lights but less versatile. It is made more to be set flat on a long surface rather than throw in a cup holder or hang with a clip.
- If you want to work with additional features, you have to download their LG app. It might be a great app (I haven't tried it out) but I would rather just link up to Bluetooth and go.
- It comes with a USB-C chord but no brick to plug it in. So you will need a power adapter to plug the USB end into it.

Wanted to try a different Bluetooth speaker from what I already have, the Sony SRS-XB21 and Bose Soundlink Color II I have are both good devices but I have problems getting enough volume out of the Bose when linked to my TV set. The Sony being a smaller unit works really good but I wanted to see if there was something a little more “Room Filling” and not a lot bigger.
These came packed with the speaker, Bluetooth cable “type C”, a quick start manual and warranty guide, that’s it, no charger. Fortunately I have plenty of USB chargers around and mainly use multiport units around the house. This speakers charging port is a USB “C” type so you’ll have to use the included cable if you don’t already have one. The included cable is only around 3’ long so you may want to get a longer cable if you want to use the device while plugged in. I currently have it plugged into a 6’ USB aftermarket cable and it’s working fine.
Size wise the speaker is bigger than the Sony or Bose, the main body being more tubular shaped like the Sony. If you include the carrying / protective handles it’s overall quite a bit bigger than the Sony. The device itself it pretty heavy and feels very well built, quite a bit heavier than either of the two competitor units. The body of the main unit is a textured black plastic that feels pretty thick, you can’t deform it pressing in on it. The front of the unit has a perforated metal cover over it protecting the two speakers. The ends of the unit are a hard plastic but they are also bass radiators so you can actually move the ends by pressing on them. I like the protective built in handles, they make moving the speaker around very easy, and really protect the speakers from damage if they happen to fall. The handles also make the speaker very stable, and that’s the one thing I really dislike about the Sony speakers. One slight bump and they roll away, usually ending up falling off whatever they are sitting on, they’ve taken a tumble to the floor many times.
This LG unit like the Sony has a built in lighting that LG calls “Beat Lighting” which flashes to the rhythm of the music. Each speaker has its own individual light and each speaker lights up, the Sony unit has a LED and glowing strip above/below the speakers in the body of the unit so the speakers themselves don’t light up. I really don’t care for this feature, and fortunately you can disable it easily, “the Sony allows this also”. The flashing light are too distracting for watching movies, so I really have no further input on that feature. These are also IPX5 weather resistant so using them in a little rain isn’t supposed to hurt them. I could see using these outdoors without worrying if they will be damaged, and will probably be using them on our porch when we are out there, you just have to make sure the charging port door is closed otherwise water could enter that way and there is a warning about that in the manual.
I will be mainly using these to link to my TV or Projector so my review will be focused mainly on that.
I had no problem linking it to either my Samsung TV or the Bluetooth transmitter I have hooked to the projector. I don’t see any lag in the speech in either of the devices and the sound quality is much better than the built in speakers of either device. Now as far as sound quality goes, this sounds “to us” much better than the Bose unit, the volume output of the Bose just cannot compete or be compared while using Bluetooth. With the Sony unit it’s a very close match up when you are sitting close to the units. It’s almost indistinguishable between the two, but when you move away from the speakers that’s where the difference comes in. The LG speaker is louder and more room filling at a distance, with definitely more bass. Those end cap radiators really help push more bass into the room, it’s not overwhelming or chest thumping like my full surround sound system but it’s plenty for their size. I’m finding I like these more than either the Sony or Bose units for watching TV. The end pieces do move a lot more than I expected during heavy bass sounds and those really help push the bass out into the room, neither the Sony nor Bose have anything like that. My wife had to agree that between the three speakers these sounded the best while we were watching “Doom” on Netflix. Otherwise the overall sound quality is great, voices are nice and clear, background music is clean, they sound a lot better than the built in speaker on the TV and projector. These also really make a great alternative to a sound bar if you want something that’s portable and easy to use with your video sources.

Setup is really easy for LG PK5 Bluetooth Speaker. It came with USB C connector for charging. After few hours of charging, i have connected my iPhone using Bluetooth option. I was amazed with sound quality and clarity from this speaker. Sound Quality is crisp and clear. Great Work LG!!!
It is a mid-size speaker and handle grip design is really awesome to hold and move. The grip is really well made. This speaker has IPX5 water resistant feature and colorful LED lighting. Each speaker lights up while playing songs and it can be disabled as well.
Clear Vocal and Enhanced Bass settings are great features and i love the fact that vocal is much better with Clear Vocal option enabled. Meridian Audio technology combines advanced signal processing and hardware design to expand image height and widen the sound field, with custom presets for uncompromising performance. This speaker has high-definition Bluetooth and can stream music in 24-bit quality which is equal to premium HD audio.
Battery life is really great and worked close to 18 hours with full charge. This speaker can be used as speakerphone as well and built-in automatically filters audio so calls are loud and clear.
LG PK5 Bluetooth Speaker is an excellent option for portability and outstanding sound quality. I would recommend to anyone who are looking for a Bluetooth speaker with lot of great features and sound quality.

In the box comes the speaker, a white usb type-c cable and two booklets( simple guide and warranty). The look of the speaker may not be for everyone but I found it ok. On to the important stuff…
The sound. Without any tweaking to an equalizer and connecting it to a couple devices the sound is around average. When used with an equalizer and a few adjustments, the aptX HD truly begins to shine and the speaker comes alive. You get deep powerful pounding bass with pretty smooth lows and mids and a crispy highs. I tested both with FLAC and MP3 tracks and both came out sounding amazing. Both the clear focal and enhanced feature ( activated respectively by buttons on the top of the speaker) worked well when activated. I really can’t complain about the sound.
The speaker also features a beating lights feature that supposedly plays in time with the music. I found that the lighting is pretty random outside of the bass which it mainly seems to follow sometimes. It has four modes , Party, Water(blue tone), Forest( yellow tone) and off. The lighting is not significant when used outside in the day time but in the night, it’s fine. I usually left it off especially it allowed you to squeeze out a few more hours of battery life. I used it for about 5 hours straight ( lights on ) with about 60% volume and upon a battery check the light was still green which indicated that more than 70% of the speakers battery remained.
I would definitely suggest this item especially if you don’t mind tinkering with the sound via an equalizer. My only gripe would be that the max volume for the speaker was lower than expected.

Popped this guy out of the box, grabbed it by it’s convenient handle, placed it on the ledge and played some great music!
LG surprised me since I haven’t ever had a LG speaker but I’ve seen their other audio systems.
The design is cool and honestly I thought the skeleton built around was just for protection but it’s so much more.
The depth it gives my speaker adds asthetic to the room as you can see. The bass is an amazing thing. When it started playing some Zac Brown Band the guitars sounded crisp!
When I was playing music I jumped through to my playlists and the voices and instruments sounded crisp and it felt like I was at a concert with how clear everything sounded.
The PK5 has unlocked a new experience for listening to music and podcasts for me. I’m glad to have it and hope this helps! I took conference calls, charged it and replaced the cover to protect the power area and played with all the lights and buttons!

So.. I'm sitting here still listening to some chill ambient mood music on the LG PK5 as i write this review. I really want to love the speaker, its great, it looks cool, the blinking color changing lights provide a cool atmosphere and they react to the beat of the music.
Things I love about this speaker, It is LOUD. 20 Watts i believe. It gets really loud for its size. It has a USB - C charging port, a 3.5 mm input. This speaker can pair along with another LG PK speaker ( i did not get to try this function.) The blinking color changing lights are cool for setting the mood. I love the design and handles on the speaker. It feels very rugged and should be able to hangout with you outdoors while you party or grill. I did use it outdoors in light rain with no problems. Battery life is amazing, I'm at 80% battery after about 3 hours of use today at medium volume. If it holds steady I should get between 12~15 hours of use before charging.
The thing that bugs me about this speaker is the sound out of the box. To my ears, it sounds too Trebly, especially at high volumes. I listened to a variety of music with the clear vocal and enhanced bass off and on. I do prefer them both on at all times. With them off the music just sounds flat and muddy to me. When you turn them on it greatly enhances the sound. , But if you go above 60% volume it begins to sound trebly. For most people, it will probably sound great. But if you're an audiophile, you might be turned off by it. Fortunately there is an easy fix. The apps I use to stream music allow me to tweak the equalizer. The Speaker does sound great after tweaking the EQ to your liking. Bass is deep yet clean with no distortion. Mids and Highs are clear with no annoying hiss. Speakers generally have a "break in" period, so Im hoping that these will get better as time goes on. I think this speaker provides great value for your money. It is rugged, battery life is fantastic, and it gets very loud.
Pros- Rugged Tough Build
Color Changing Beat Reactive Lights
USB - C charging port
LOUD
Cons - USB - C cable provided, but no charging brick
Needs equalizer tuning in your app of choice to get great sound

Keeping in mind that the PK5 is a little blue tooth portable speaker that sounds surprisingly good. If you are looking for something that is audiophile quality or has the ability to blow the doors off with loud volume, then this is not the speaker for you.
This little speaker for casual listening is very capable. The sound is clean with more bass then you might expect from the size of the PK5 due to the dual passive radiators on the side of the PK5. The PK5 sits between the smaller PK3 and the larger PK7, but includes the features of the bigger brother.
Set up couldn’t be easier. Once removed from the packaging and you will use the included USB charging cable to charge the little LG. You turn the unit on with the power button on top. Once powered on all you need to do is press the blue tooth button and find it on your Apple or Android device. Once you have it paired, let the music flow. In a small to medium size room the PK5 has no problem filling it with music. If you push the PK5 to its limits the sound can get a bit fatiguing. During play back the speaker will display different colors around the speaker cones which are visible through the black metal speaker screen. There are several settings to allow you to set the colors and the accompanying patterns to your mood or shut them off completely.
The PK5 has eight buttons across the top including a power, blue tooth, minus and plus volume buttons. A duel button for the onboard microphone and the mood lighting on the speakers. Two additional buttons control the voice clarity and enhanced bass.
I have been pleasantly surprised by the sound the PK5 puts out and would recommend it for use in an office, small room, on the road or on the beach.

This is not your average speaker! LG did a great job with the sound quality on this speaker. The two ends are cushioned panels for better bass! The sound does not get distorted like other Bluetooth speakers I’ve had and the range nice too. The size is mid range: not too small for pocket or too big for a backpack, but the sound is excellent and clear. It goes nicely on the desk, coffee table or nightstand. Setup is a breeze, no special instructions needed. The only two issues I have are: I’m not a fan of the lights that come with it but you can turn them off if needed and the bars (handles) in the corners, but they come in handy when carrying the speaker around. However, it takes away from the beauty of the speaker. The the inputs (charger, aux in and reset) are in a covered panel on the back so is a smooth transition all around.
All in all, is worth getting another.

Upgraded to this from an old little iHome bluetooth speaker, and it’s a pretty big improvement. This speaker sounds pretty great—doesn’t really have any noticeable distortion past the halfway point or even at full volume.
It can be a little treble-y at times, but not to any large extent. The bass output on this speaker is pretty good too—the passive radiators work great, and it’s very satisfying to watch them move. Don’t expect ‘feel it in your chest bass’ though (I mean, no speakers this size do that, so you should know not to expect it).
The lights are a cool little extra, but I generally don’t use them. Just a neat feature to show off. Or something to look at if you’re bored.
It’s a bummer that there isn’t an iPhone app to take advantage of the customization options (Android only). Seems like an odd omission, consider iOS devices are fairly common.
The quality is very sturdy. Made out of a nice, rugged plastic. Metal grill on front of the speaker. The handles are nice for propping it up (it can really extend the range of the sound if you prop it more upright) and for carrying it around.
Not a very heavy speaker but also not super light. Weighs about 2.5/3 lbs. Not a speaker you could fit in a purse, but definitely fits in the bottom of most backpacks (it will fill up the whole bottom).
The fact that you can pair two of these together is pretty cool. I’m very tempted to get a second one to take advantage of that.
Overall, excellent speaker. Gets pretty loud (around 90-100 dbs). Nice sound quality, nice build quality. Definitely recommended.

The LG PK5 is a nice bluetooth speaker that features Hi Res audio through the aptX codec. That means you'll get cd quality sound through your Bluetooth connection. This speaker is water and dust resistant but can't be submerged in water. It's lightweight and has multiple grab holds which are nice for carrying as well as protecting the speaker.
The reason I only gave this four stars instead of five is that out of the box I didn't like the sound. There are "Clear Vocal" and "Enhanced Bass" buttons on the speaker, neither of which I thought helped the sound. I downloaded a free equalizer app that works with any speaker and I was able to get the sound where I wanted it. I would rather not have to do that though.
The flashing led lights on the front are cool if you're into that, and you have color options for them as well as the option to turn them off.
Also, this came with no charge on the battery and I charged it for several hours before playing it and the battery died very quickly. I'm not sure if I didn't have the battery fully charged or if it just doesn't last long. Overall though, this is a pretty good speaker.

I love this speaker. I use it in my truck that unfortunately does not have a way to listen to my musics on my iPhone. This speaker plays nicely and loudly. I can hear the music just fine when windows are open. There is no sound loss at the higher end of the volume scale-and I tried. Also the light effect while nice will drain the charge faster, They are easy to turn off. Also you can answer the phone through this speaker and use Siri. I have used it outside and in and have no complaints with it. The charge will last the day and charge it overnight it’s ready to go the next day. Have fun and enjoy this speaker
