My New Favorite Blutooth Speaker

I don't have a massive amount of Bluetooth speakers at my house, but I have managed to collect a few. Out of all of them, the "B" brand mini speaker was my favorite, with good overall sound and excellent bass reproduction, but I would not dare to take this to the lake or pool. In comes the Lifeproof Aquaphonics AQ-10. The packaging was impressive and premium and hinted at what lies within. I opened the box to see the light grey and lime green AQ-10 speaker and really liked the feel and weight of the speaker. All ports are covered well in the necessary rubberized covers. The buttons on top are also rubberized. On one end is the power button and "lock-out" switch that disables all buttons. On the other end is the power in, Aux In and a USB charging port. Yes, this can act as a quick charger for cellphones, etc.! On the bottom is a "Dry Box" sealed enclosure to put things you don't want to get wet in. My current cellphone wont fit there, but my fruity MP3 player will. I guess a small wallet might fit. It comes with all the manuals and charging cords and looks really good. Now the sound: It is definitely clear and gets loud with minimal distortion. It easily fills my office with sound. The bass is mostly produced by a passive radiator on the rear so bass is a little light, unless in a corner or near a wall. But did I mention it's waterproof and floats! It is sealed totally so dust, moisture, water, snow and others won't affect. Also it's somewhat shockproof (as I learned when I tripped over the cord sending it flying across the room). No damage sustained. It also has speakerphone capability and calls were clear and worked well. So overall, the sound is really good but a little light on the bass side. But that is more than compensated for by being placed near a wall. The fact that it's sealed, waterproof and FLOATS makes this an excellent purchase. It's my new favorite outside, lakeside and quick hit speaker. Good Shopping!

Pool party gem!

This speaker survived being out in the rain, dive into the pool and being left overnight outside with sprinklers running! It's a true friend for summer fun activities!
13 hours battery life (honestly, I never listen for that long) is plenty for the whole day. Speaker is mainly bluetooth and is only waterproof when used as a bluetooth, you can connect 3.5mm jack cable to it, but it stops being waterproof once you open the access port. Another 3.5mm input is in the "dry dock" underneath the speaker, however I found it not very useful so far, I don't have any players that would fit into the "dry dock" (it's too small for an iPhone or an iPod touch, iPod Nano would fit though!).
Even though speaker could float in the pool - it won't play anything if submerged, so better put it on the little raft and let it flot around.
Sound is pretty loud for the small party (if your pool does not have a waterfall), but only directed out from the front of a speaker, there is no speakers in the back or sides, so it's kinda directional. Buttons are backlit and easy to find and operate, there is also a button lock switch to prevent accidental changes.
Overall - it's a fun party companion with the ability to charge your devices, just make sure you close the access door before dropping it in the pool.

This bluetooth speaker is great, tested it on, off, and around water with very promising results. The speaker has a lot of little things to provide you, ports to charge devices, attached storage for placing small items (phone, wallet items). Useful, and will be used often. The sound this thing puts out is amazing, tried various forms of music and it all sounded great...yeah, not built for bass type music, but does fill the needs. There was no issues with any kind of distortion and bluetooth distance is great on this thing. You can change songs form your phone or the speaker. You may need to decide where you'll want to control your volume (phone/speaker). Overall love the color and the sound. Packaging was perfect. Just enough to give the ooh and ah, not all this extra waste. There are other colors that will be available. This was the mid-range model, can't imagine what the high end model is like and sounds. It can only get better, right?

As a speaker, this unit struggles with percussive and bass rich songs. It does well with vocals and string instruments. In an outdoor environment, which is the seeming intent of the product, the deficiencies probably won't be as obvious. In the indoors though, you're likely to be disappointed.
The dry box is handy but only for really small items. Think a couple of keys on a key ring. It's too small for a phone, even without a case. Which makes it odd why there were be a USB port in the dry box. Not to mention that interior port does not seem to work on my unit and doesn't charge. It also appears that they wired the unit so that you can't charge a device while the unit is powered on. I could only get it to charge my phone when I turned if off and then pressed the power button, outside port. One thought might be that the interior port doesn't work with the door open, but I have nothing that small that could charge inside the box with the door closed.
The cover for the exterior port seems stiff. Stiff as in a future failure point of the flap if it's used with high frequency.
Battery life is good though and this will probably live as a music source for me while working in the garden.

Big sound for a not so big speaker.
Take it along and listen to your music wherever.
The beach, poolside, hiking, camping or for a walk in the rain with no worries of water damage as it waterproof.
Dont worry about it falling in the pool either because it floats!
(also if weighted down somehow and held under water it's good for 30 minutes at up to 3 meters and long as all covers are closed)
It also has a small lockbox for cash, keys etc.
Its big long life battery can even be used to charge you phone while you're out...And it's a speakerphone with its own microphone.
All these features in an easily portable compact unit like this and its rich full sound makes it a hard to beat speaker.

The Aquaphonics speaker by LifeProof is a fantastic option for anyone who wants some decent audio quality at the pool, lake, bathroom or anywhere else there might be water.
Starting off, the speaker itself weighs less than two pounds. it's roughly the same weight as my Amazon Echo Tap. Until now, the Tap has been my primary bluetooth speaker, so I'll be comparing it to the Aquaphonics for this review. LifeProof says that the A10 speaker is designed for mid-range groups and can last up to 13 hours at moderate levels. I've used it outside several times while the kids were playing by the pool and while grilling. So far, it still shows that it's nearly fully charged.
The input ports on the side of the device consist of the standard power socket to charge the speaker, an Auxiliary line-in option for connected players as well as a USB-A standard socket. Unlike my Tap, the A10 can also be used to power the device that's playing to it. The waterproof dry box is a nice feature, but I haven't really used it. The size says for keys or portable players, but it's certainly too small for my iPhone 7 Plus. The dry box also features an Auxiliary line-in port as well as a USB-A port for charging whatever player you have connected.
If you opt for the A10, bear in mind that the largest device you'll be able to fit will likely be an iPhone 5 or something thereabouts. Any of the newer devices are too big. If you want something bigger, then you should check out the A11. It's bulkier, louder and more expensive. When I compared the audio quality to my Amazon Tap, I couldn't really notice a difference. Sure the Tap is cheaper and also has access to Prime Music, but it's not waterproof. I always had mild heart attacks when we'd have the speaker outside in case someone got water on it.
The A10 that I have is also priced at $200, which is about what most name-brand bluetooth speakers go for. This one has the added benefit of being waterproof as well. If you're in the market for a speaker that you want to take on the boat, to the lake, or out by the pool without a concern, then you owe it to yourself to check out the Aquaphonics A10. Overall, it's safe to say that I'll be using this speaker outside and leave my non-waterproof Amazon Tap inside the house.
Pros:
-------
* Waterproof up to 3 feet
* Drop proof up to 4 feet
* Bluetooth speaker and microphone option
Cons:
--------
* Waterproof dry box is a bit small (iPhone 5, no bigger)

The AQ10 is a nice looking Bluetooth speaker. It is really waterproof and durable. This will be my new speaker for the outdoors. From the packaging to the easy setup to my phone I'm happy with the thought the went to creating this product. The light sensor that illuminates the controls is really cool. The compartment that allows you to keep your small belongings dry and safe is another great feature for me but make sure you trust the people around you when you use it. The AQ10 is almost perfect but I cannot give it a perfect rating because I do not envy the sound coming out the speaker. It is just ok to me so that's where the AQ10 lost a star from me but I will still recommend it to people but I will let others know that the sound could of been better. Maybe the AQ11 would solve that issue and provide a better listening experience. On a brighter note this works well with answering phone calls.

When the Lifeproof AQ10 Bluetooth Speaker arrived, I was really impressed with the packaging. At the price point of this speaker, it needs to tick ALL the boxed. The design of the packaging was very inviting and refreshing. Opening up the half cut box, depicting water spilling out of it, you are greeted with a nice cyan interior to the box.
The speaker is bright and vibrant in it's 'Obsidian Sand and Lime Green' guise. It's a nice, hefty unit and is really well put together. It feels sturdy and looks like it would survive it's claimed 1.2m drop test. There is a waterproof cap to cover the power outlet and USB charging port, but I wasn't convinced that it would remain in place if the speaker was to be bobbing around in water. The back watertight storage area does look to be nice and solidly sealed tho and items will remain dry when placed in there. A nice feature is the back lit buttons, with a motion or light sensor built in so that they light up as your hand moves towards the speaker. That was a really nice touch!
Just like most bluetooth devices on the market now, it was very easy to pair up with my iPhone and start playing music. However, that is where my excitement for this speaker wained. The sound quality is really not very good at all, especially at this price point. I understand that different technology is required to achieve the waterproof status of the speaker, which allows it to be submersed in 1m of water for 30 mins, or to float around in a pool, but it really is at a detriment to the speaker itself. It has great features, but not great sound.
I used it while washing my car, testing out it's waterproof ability and it worked very well. It was sprayed with a hose while sat on top of the car and continued to play music just fine. No water go inside of it at all.
However, the sound quality just wasn't there. The volume itself of the speaker is very low compared to my go-to bluetooth speaker, so I had to turn the volume up a lot. And when I did that, the sound distorted badly, to the point that I had to stop using the speaker altogether. Using it outdoors, in my garage while I washed my car on the driveway was a perfect scenario of how I would use this speaker, and it failed at that task. I returned to my go-to splash-proof speaker and continued with what I was doing.
When I received the speaker, I had really high hopes for it, considering all the features, being waterproof, shockproof, actually lifeproof, but the sound quality really let this speaker down, when at the end of the day, you are buying it to have good sound, and the extras are nice to have features. There are better sounding speakers out there for the price.

Good Looking BT Speaker but Lacks Sound

I will give it 5 stars for appearance and presentation. The packaging is great, it feels like you are opening a sports tech toy. It has a very sporty feel to the packaging and speaker. It's water proof for up to 1 meter for 30 mins, and floats on water, how cool is that?
I like that you can charge your cell phone too! Its larger then most BT speakers in the same price range. It has up to 13 hrs of battery life, and it even has a dry box in the bottom of the speaker if you want to put your belongings inside. It also has basic Bluetooth phone settings (built in mic for out going/incoming calls)
Now why i gave it 3 stars instead of 5, is due to the sound quality. This BT speaker lacks bass. It has a lot of treble. I used to have a JPL Flip 3 (gave it away because i got this speaker), it had bass and treble, it made any genre of music sound great. I could tell the difference when comparing the 2 speakers, the Flip 3 is $60 dollars, and AQ10 is $200.
Also the dry box is too small to fit any current cell phones. May be it will fit for smaller cell phones, like an iphone 4s or just put your ID or debit cards inside. I have a Samsung S7 and it doesn't fit. I was disappointed. Another reason why i took off a star was due to not being loud enough. You think for the size of the BT speaker it would be loud, but its not. Its as loud as my old JPL Flip 3! It doesn't have a holder either so you can hang it somewhere.
I wanted to like AQ10, but i feel like they focused too much on presentation and design, instead of the sound of the speaker and for the price? It's not worth it in my opinion. If it was lets say $100 to $130 then it would be good option, not worth $200. I would recommend looking for other BT Speaker options.

Quality Waterproof Speaker

The AQ10 looks like a simple bluetooth speaker but performs at a very high level. The packaging is simple and includes a charging adapter along with some basic operating instructions.
I was able to pair with with iphone, macbook etc and an android tablet without any issues. The speaker stayed connected when switching audio between multiple devices. It also has an inbulit microphone allowing it to use it as a speakerphone for calls. For both facetime and audio calls the other party was able to hear me clearly.
We used the speaker close to the bathtub to play music for the kids who splashed water around and the speaker had no issues. The waterproof compartment at the bottom looks good to keep some cash and keys but putting a phone inside would be a bit impossible unless you have a tiny phone.
The usb ports can be used to charge a phone as well and seems to be true or close to the advertised mAh capacity. We are very pleased with this speaker and would recommend to anyone who is looking for a quality waterproof speaker.

Rugged Case + Superior Audio = Great BT Speaker

PREVIEW:
The LifeProof AQUAPHONICS AQ10 Portable Bluetooth Speaker is designed with special appeal to the rugged outdoor enthusiast. In a nutshell, this Bluetooth Speaker differentiates itself by offering extreme shock & water resistance, more power (hence it plays louder) & longer battery life than competitive offerings. The recyclable packaging is aqua, suggesting the speaker is at home near water. At $200, there are BT Speakers that offer slightly superior sound, but NONE that are ready to play outdoors like the AQ10.
TOP 10 LIKES:
1- Water Resistance (rated to be waterproof to 1m for 30 minutes),
2- Drop Resistance (Rated to survive drops from 1.2 meters)
3- Extended Battery Life (Rated 13-Hour). The 12 Volt 2.0 Amp charger is required to charge this beast of a battery. This battery / power source is the secret to achieving premium quality sound at high volume for 13 hours.
4- Buoyancy (It floats!)
5- Hidden Storage (Dry box built-in)
6- 2 Color Options: Obsidian Sand or Laguna Clay (as shown in my photos)
7- Clear Audio (Extra high clarity mid frequencies produce easy-to-understand voice; surprisingly strong bass response; well balanced high frequencies). Output is 94 Decibels!! Easily heard over the shower. It plays LOUD!
8- Easy Connect Bluetooth (Just press & hold the BT button & connects up to 8 devices)
9- Make & Receive phone calls with the built-in mic
10- Solid Look & Feel (Rugged, yet Attractive Design that Commands Respect). Sealed construction (protects from snow, water, dust & dirt)
DISLIKE: (This turned out to be a LIKE!):
Use of a dedicated charger is unfortunate for convenience (because it is something else to take with you on vacation, for example), but is REQUIRED because it delivers 12 Volt at 2.0 Amp to charge the built-in hefty battery (12V X 2.0A = 24 Watt). A USB charging jack would have been more convenient, but USB delivers 5 Volt, so the same power (24 Watt) / 5 Volt would require 4.8 Amp output. That is IMPOSSIBLE because 4.8 Amp exceeds the power available via USB. A large tablet charges at 5 Volt / 2.0 Amp (10 watt), for example. To achieve the sound output & battery life described in Benefit #3 listed above, this dedicated charger is not only appropriate, but is ESSENTIAL.
LifeProof could have designed a BT Speaker with a smaller power amplifier & smaller battery that could be charged on a 5 Volt USB plug. But they chose to prioritize PERFORMANCE, thus requiring an external 24 Watt power supply. This design choice elevates the AQ10 to a High Performance Class by itself & the "dislike" for inconvenience is surpassed by "WOW!" sound quality, extended battery life & extreme design integrity. VERY IMPRESSIVE!!
CONCLUSION:
AQUAPHONICS AQ10 is the hands down, Industry Leading Bluetooth Speaker for Rugged Applications. I Love it & HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!

Great speaker for the kayak or SUP! Pros - very rugged, waterproof to 1 meter for 30 mins, great openings for bungy-ing this down to a board, a dry bin for money, CC, or ID - all make this speaker a great option for hitting the water.
Cons - where is the bass? Acoustic, vocals, guitar, piano, horns, etc. all sound great, but bass is lacking on this speaker. Overall gives many songs a tinny sound. So many Bluetooth speaker options out there that have better sound.
Give this a speaker an A for rugged/beach/water abilities and a C for sound.

It's a decent product. My issue was with the staff when purchasing. I suspected it was 110 volt charge only and was assured it was a micro USB by two store members frankly I was upset ... I like the product other than that... It is a little tinny sounding ... But as far speakers go it's decent quality. It is 110 volt charge only. So if ur planning on putting it in your vehicle be sure u have a place to plug it in.
