Customers often highlight the exceptional sound quality and excellent battery life of the AQUAPHONICS AQ10 Portable Bluetooth Speaker. Its waterproof and durable design, along with convenient features like storage for small items, also receive positive feedback. However, some users mention that the bass could be improved and that the lack of USB charging is a drawback. The price point is also considered high by some customers.

This a nice looking speaker that is impeccably made. I was drawn to the design (I like it) and the quality in which it was put together. I think it's nice looking and well made. I like that there are large buttons that you can't miss, and love the song forward and reverse buttons, which isn't always present in BT speakers (or is some combination of button presses you have to memorize).
I had some difficulties setting it up, my phone could see it, but I kept getting an error message. But eventually, it connected. And since then, I've had no issues.
Sound Quality
Pretty normal, nothing special. It gets plenty loud for my use (indoor and outdoor) but there's a distinct lack of bass. Which depending on the person may or may not matter. I'll say that you aren't buying this for the sound quality (and that doesn't mean it's bad quality).
Features
It has several nice features which quite honestly, are the reason you buy this thing. It's water proof. I can attest to it testing this feature in my bath tub. The music is muffled because obviously the sound is trying to pass few water. But it does float. It's like an iceberg though, most of the device is underwater. So if you dropped it in a river it may be tough to see depending on the conditions but that's a minor point.
It has a dry box attached to the bottom of the speaker, which was exciting to me. I liked the idea that you could put a credit card, key, and your phone in a waterproof area so you didn't have to worry about losing multiple items. But alas, the dry box wasn't very big. it could maybe fit an iphone 4, but my Google Pixel in no case stood no chance.
It does have two USB ports for charging phones which I like. I haven't had the need yet, but it will be nice to charge your phone when need be. Note that when using these ports, you lose waterproofing.
The biggest flaw, and it my opinion, is a big one but not deal breaker, is the proprietary charger. In 2017, I like using either micro USB or USB-C to charge my devices. I like having one cord to charge them all. When taking this speaker out, you need to carry a separate charger which is a pain and something else to remember.
I haven't had a chance to fully test the battery life, but its rated 13 hours and I've been using it off and on for many days now and the battery indicator is still at full power.
One last comment, I do like the glow in the dark buttons. You're not likely to listen to music in the dark all the time, but it is nice to easily find the buttons when you do. Any time you pick the device up the lights on the buttons turn on which is a nice touch.

Highly rugged, with good (not great) sound

This speaker is great for the outdoors with great rugged qualities. The sound quality is good but definitely not the best out there. It can get loud but you will begin to notion distortion at the highest levels, especially with lower quality audio. It has flexible functionality with many types of devices. Battery-life is very good. Carrying handle could be more useful, but it works and can be used with a carabiner! High level of bump/drop resistance and the waterproofing has stood up well so far. This speaker has it all, but you will have to pay for it.
Design: Looks great. The black version looks nice and classic. This will look great poolside, on the deck, or in the shower. It blends well in to any environment without looking like an eye-sore. There are multiple buttons that control a variety of functions. The waterproofing has be great with splashes of water, and I even tossed it in the hot tub for a minute. No damage or loss of function! You can tell it is a quality durable product that can handle a beating. Great for outdoorsy people young to old.
Function: Very simple and straight forward to use. Pairing is very simple and quick. Press the Pair button and boom it;s good to go within 30seconds. Can play any sounds from your device. Also has call function to answer calls. Easy to control volume. I really appreciate the dry storage compartment that can store a regular ipod, keys, or some money/credit cards. Phone space will vary depending on what you have, be sure to compare dimensions. Overall, very useful when you’re on the go. It’s awesome that it has a charge level indicator and a button lock feature. There is a USB charge port, so you can charge any device powered thru USB! Very functional and easy to use.
Sound: Good. It does get loud, but you may notice some loss of clarity/quality at highest levels. Disappointing at this price-point. Note that the quality of your sound files will affect how nice the sound is. If you download a low-quality file, don't expect top-level sound, but this speaker still compensates quite well. There are other rugged speakers in this price range that offer better sound, but not as durable, so I would factor that greatly into your decision.
Overall, if you are in the market for a rugged wireless speaker product, this is a top choice. The price is high, so I would do a thorough comparison of other speakers. Looking for a rugged speaker, this is a solid choice. If you want rugged with great sound, consider other options. If you’re in the middle, this is probably a solid bet.

Surprisingly Good Sound but with Minor Issues

This speaker seems to have a specific purpose:Take it to the beach, or camping or on any outing. It's not intended to replace a home audio system, or other high-end speaker. Happily, it's lightweight and has a very thoughtful design. In addition to audio features (see below) it includes a watertight "dry box" that is just big enough to hold a couple of credit cards, some cash, and some keys.
Packaging is slick (in a good way) and very elegant. But documentation is a problem as explained below.
I did not test the claims that it could safely be submerged in a meter of water for up to 30 minutes, nor did I drop it to test its claimed durability. I did assess its construction which seemed to be excellent. Connections sit behind snug, waterproof caps. Ergonomics are very good as major controls are large and sit on top of the unit. Connecting via Bluetooth was nearly instantaneous and very easy.
Most notable is the sound quality which, for it's size and within its intended use, was very good. Obviously, bass and treble are limited by size, but to enjoy music on a beach on by a bonfire, it is better than good. Volume levels were surprisingly high before there was any notable distortion.
My only notable issues are with documentation. The box contains a folded color insert that shows where various controls and connection are located, and what the embossed symbols means. There is also a "Care and Maintenance Manual" in about a dozen languages, but it provides very little information other than the usual warnings and "do nots." There is a link to a full manual but when I tried it (using different browsers) there was no manual on line. Also, I could not find in the documentation or the illustration the claimed "built-in mic" that was featured on the packaging. I really did not feel this was a major problem, as I do not anticipate many users will be using the device as a speakerphone. The illustrated features sheet in the box shows that icons are in a contrasting color from the speaker, but that is not the case. They are clear and easy to ready with the major buttons on top, but less so in the end cap connections. However, this is a minor concern.
In sum, it you are looking for an (apparently) sturdy, waterproof, and lightweight speaker with very good sound, this unit might be just the right one for you.

I like this lifeproof aquaphonics Bluetooth speaker. First look at it definitely looks like it will handle drops very well. I am excited to test it out at the beach and see how well it holds up. First thing I noticed about it and don't care for is that it doesn't charge through USB. I don't see why any electronic wouldn't use USB to charge so this makes it hard to be away from an outlet for an extended period of time. Now it says that it's supposed to last about 13 hours off of one charge I have only used it for 2hrs and had a day so I don't know how true that is. I still have a full charge from using it. It does come somewhat charged and only took about 1 1/2 hours to get a full charge. I like that you can plug a USB of another device and charge it off the speaker while you listen to music that's a good feature. The control buttons light up only when you move the speaker which I also like. Another good feature is the lock button which allows you to lock the control buttons when not needing them so no one can skip your song or turn your volume down. The buttons are also a decent size do once you remember where they are no need to pick up the speaker to use the buttons that's a bonus for me. It has decent weight to it, not heavy, also not light. The speaker is front and back so it gives a good output. It gets loud enough with good base but I have used louder Bluetooth speakers. It's a good personal speaker, it wouldn't be useful for a crowd. The color is nice a light grey with lime green makes it noticeable. The included dry box to store cards, money is nice, unless you have a really small phone with no case or like one or two keys those won't fit in the dry box. Overall it's a nice speaker allows 8 devices to be paired to it, the sound is loud enough, has nice weight to it, the color is nice, buttons are great, my only draw back is no USB charge.

I returned a lesser priced portable blue tooth speaker for this product. I could find no customer ratings on this speaker - but I thought that I would give it a try. I am fairly familiar with electronics but I found that the instructions that came with the speaker were lacking. However, the product is a solid product, the audio, connections to other devices and battery life are all very good. I am pleased with this purchase.

I’M IMPRESSED! (and that ain't easy)

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
* Documentation - Okay, this was a little lacking. What’s included with the speaker only gives very basic information. Way more space was dedicated to warranty and disclaimers than operation. The information on the website is even more sparse. I understand this is a brand new product, but I would urge Lifeproof to improve this area.
* Size - Just right! It’s exactly the form factor that works best for me. Doesn’t take up much room on my desk at home, desk at work, or my night table. But it’s big enough to contain a battery with good capacity and sound that’s better than many other BT speakers on the market.
* Weight - A little heaver than some BT speakers, but I’m sure this is due to a larger battery. Some of the weight contributes to a feeling of superior build quality.
* Charging - Like I mentioned, the directions were lacking and somewhat inconsistent between online and printed. It has four tiny LED’s to indicate the battery level and when it arrived it was already at “3”. Charging to full took just a couple of hours. Charging from empty took around 8 hours or so. (I charged it at work and was away from my desk for a couple hours—so exact time is unavailable)
* Operation - Even though I would like to see more explicit instructions, the unit was dead-simple in operation. It has all of the necessary buttons with no confusing patterns or multi-purpose buttons to confuse the user. I was able to power, link, play and operate with no difficulty at all. Pairing happened easily with my iPhone, iPad, iMac, AppleTV, co-workers Android phone. Not a hitch with any of them!
With a full charge, I used this for three days at work and sporadically at home before getting to the last blinking LED. So I’m sure that the 13 hour estimate is accurate at “normal” listening levels.
* Sound - Because that’s what’s really important! Volume is sufficient for indoor or outdoor use. I’ve used it in many locations throughout my home. I’ve used it outside on windy days, with the wind chimes banging and at a distance with good, clear sound in all situations. Even at higher volumes I didn’t notice any distortion or degradation. I’ve also tested the range and had no problems with signal loss. I’ve used it in one room while moving my phone all over the house and it kept it’s connection all the time. Even when I went out to my garage (steel door in the way) it still kept playing my tunes. My backyard continues on for over 100 feet. When I reached the fence at the back property line, it was still playing strong. I had to go to my neighbors yard (two doors down) before I heard the first sputter.
From what I’m able to tell, the midrange emits from both the front and back of the speaker. With the front giving more high-end and the back giving more low-end sound. For my use I found that turning it 90 degrees from my position gave the best sound. In comparison, I have also used the Bose SoundLink Mini II. I found the Bose to be too heavy on the bass, making it sound “muddy”. But not so with the AQ10. Much clearer across the entire spectrum; and definitely way better than a lot of the more inexpensive speakers.
* Additional premium features - This speaker is rated to be waterproof to 1m. That’s not really an issue for me, but I did get caught in one of our Illinois Spring Monsoons on my way into work one morning. The speaker took on a lot of water. Once inside, I wiped it with a towel and it continued working just as before. No damage at all.
There is also a “dry box” storage area on the bottom. It is intended for items that cannot survive getting wet. The buttons are rubberized which contributes to the water-tightness, all access ports have tight fitting waterproof covers. There is even a USB output port to charge your phone/device from the speakers’ internal battery.
* Appearance - Dang! All this function gets a nice form also! I got the “Laguna Clay” model, which translates into light grey exterior with bright green end caps. The end caps make for a great color accent and give a fun feel to the design. The top and bottom are sculpted to create four solid loops that you can attach a strap/carabiner so you can easily hang it in your tent to avoid rolling on it while you sleep.
* Build Quality - Beyond the good sound, this is where Lifeproof really shines. The AQ10 has a very solid look and feel to it. The case is a combination of plastic, metal and rubber with very tight seams and nothing is out of place.
* Summary - DEFINITELY A KEEPER!!!! Okay, so at around $200.00 it’s not the cheapest BT speaker in this class. But it’s also not the most expensive. The additional features help to justify the price and also provide peace of mind should it find it’s way into a more harsh environment. The sound quality is above average, it’s easy to operate, reliable and attractive. Unlike so many companies these days, Lifeproof makes promises…..and then delivers!

I read other reviews, so I knew that you have to use the charger that comes with the unit vs a standard USB. Both options would here nice. But for the price, I'm very happy with this product. Sounds good. Bluetooth microphone and connection for phone works well. My wife says it sounds clear on her end and I'm 10 feet away. Drains power on standby and could be better in that respect. Overall good buy for the money.

There are SO many bluetooth speakers out there, so to find one that stands out a bit with useful features is pretty awesome.
Pros:
-Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. This speaker is really durable and does actually stand up to water really well. I probably wouldn't throw it in the pool, but I've used it sitting on the edge of the shower just fine.
-Multiple inputs is nice. Bluetooth is great, but I have a Pixel XL phone, which struggles with multiple bluetooth connections (I have a smartwatch connected)... I couldn't get a good connection to this speaker with my phone (It wasn't the speaker's fault--it connected great to another phone, tablet, and my Echo Dot with excellent sound quality). Being able to plug in with an analog cable in addition to a bluetooth connection is great--sometimes it's quicker and easier to do things the old fashioned way. I've also used it that way as an impromptu sound bar for the TV.
-Battery life is good and it's really handy to be able to use it as a charging station.
-The waterproof compartment is really waterproof.
Cons:
-The charger is not micro-usb or any other mobile standard... this did not make sense to me. I mean... why?
-The waterproof compartment has a usb charging port and analog audio-in jack, which is a great idea. Plug your phone in and play music from it, in a waterproof box, right. But... the compartment is WAY too small for pretty much any smartphone currently on the market. If you have like, an ipod nano, you could put it in there and close it up... but otherwise, you'd have to leave the compartment open... and it's on the bottom of the speaker. So, kind of an odd design choice.
