Wanted to like this, wanted to believe it could work better for a larger room than silent oil filled space heaters. But so very disappointed. First, it's NOISY! (Sure, marketing will call it "white" noise -- whatever that is) BUt for us, when the fan is on, it's hard to sleep, hard to hear the TV, hard to carry on "normal" conversations. Second, the claims about heating large rooms are so much.... "hot air." As in, don't believe it! Instead, unlike the marketing here, read the fine print in the manual warning you that this devise is only meant as a supplement to your other heat sources, that it might take 24 hours to heat up a large room, etc. etc. Third, the thermostat is quite unreliable. Call center actually told me to change settings to 90 degrees - to get it to stay on.... Fourth, the instructions are quite useless.... nothing in there about how to use the timers. (I eventually figured that commendable feature -- but by then, so disappointed with how noisy and underwhelming everything else was that I'm returning) Fifth, what's the UV thing -- other than yet another marketing gimmick? (don't know if it was on or not, but I wanted a heater, nothing else)

    Why is a heater loud?

This heater is warm and a nice size. However, it literally makes a whistling sound non-stop at about 80 decibels. It sounds like it's a cold, windy, winter night and you left a window cracked next to you. They either designed in the wrong fan or designed the grill aperture size incorrectly. I'm probably going to set it out on the curb so it disappears.

Like other reviews have pointed out, this unit is indeed quite loud and noisy. It makes a strong and ghostly whooshing sound during operation. For all the noise, this unit doesn't produce any more heat than a ceramic unit a quarter its size and nearly silent. Don't be fooled by the "large room" claim, this is a 1500watt heater like any other. 1500w is 1500w regardless of shape or size or heating style folks. I gave this one a try for the UV claims, but that turned out to be no more than a small UV LED shining in the intake at the bottom - air is moving far through too quickly for that tiny light to have any meaningful impact on UV sterilization. You can also SEE the UV light with your naked eyes, and you should never be able to see that as its damaging to the eye. The bigger issue now is the unit will rapidly click on and off while flashing E2 on the LCD screen. Several times it has tripped my circut breaker from switching on and off into this E2 error code so rapidly. This happens regardless of outlet used, and none of my other space heaters have an issue running for hours. If I'm around to catch it, you can give it a good whack to clear the error code ao I believe its a faulty tilt sensor. Regardless, this is a disturbing issue for such an expensive unit. I'd stay far away from this space heater and go with something smaller and more afforable.

Lifesmart - 6-Element Infrared Heater with Front Intake Vent and UV Light does its work. I had lot of health issues due to dryness in my study primarily due to heating through the HVAC. This changed when I bought Lifesmart - 6-Element Infrared Heater

My daughters bedroom is rather large, almost the size of a living room. She only has an electric baseboard heater and we have used this space heater instead of the baseboard and it heats her whole room.
