    unstable product, poor support structure

Purchased 2 of these 3 years ago exactly. Pros: great lumens, puts better intensity of light than others in the market. No need for bridges. Cons: $50-$60 price range. No phone support. They only work through emails if you can make it through their maze of support articles. Email response is usually not instant either. Random issue at last couple of times a year without power outages. One of the bulb was giving me issues, sometime it would turn on sometimes it wouldn't. Tried the hardware reset steps outlined in their support article. Got me going on few occasions. I sent email request (which seems to work only through your app, don't even bother through their site). No response. Finally, the bulb gave out and wouldn't even turn on. Hardware reset wouldn't do anything. Tried to get through their warranty wizard, and it says they only provide 2 years (730 days). Smart LED light bulb life expectancy to industry recommendation is anywhere from 15-25 years. For $50-$60, as a consumer, I wouldn't expect it any less! The bulb gave out in 3 years and intermittent issues while it was "working"! I have Philips hue bulbs as well, and not one issue ever since they were setup from day one (bought them at the same time as this lifx bulb) and set them up the same day as the lifx! May be not all lifx bulbs are this low in quality, but one I ended getting certainly gave out. I would not recommend bulbs to friends.

Buggy, poor customer service, dead after 3 yrs

I bought a number of these bulbs including the more expensive A19+, which emits infrared for use with security cameras. These bulbs cost me $70 a piece. Three years after purchase, one of the A19+ bulbs which was used in a ventilated, water-proof housing failed completely. I contacted LifX customer service and was told the bulb was out of warranty and therefore not covered. I explained that a bulb this expensive, especially one not mistreated or damaged, should not fail in that short time period - the company makes sure you know the bulb is rated for “more than 20,000 hours,” a useless distinction if the quality of the manufacture is so poor as to lead to failure before the bulb itself burns out. I eventually got someone to agree to replace the bulb but told me that they had “run out of stock” of that bulb. More than 3 months after being told that, I still have no replacement. Besides being out the $70 investment, the pairing of the bulbs was an absolute nightmare and, for 6 bulbs, easily took more than 8 hours to finally get working. Whatever output intensity or color saturation advantages these bulbs may have are lost compared to their buggy, frustrating design, poor longevity, and adversarial “customer service.”

I saw all the YouTube videos about this product and it seemed like Lifx was going to work perfectly for my project. Turns out I was wrong, after setting everything up the lights worked perfectly and I was very happy with the performance, I even thought “the high ticket price was worth it.” About a week later I started having issues with the lights not connecting to my phone, so I had to do multiple resets to fix the problem, I even had to go back to BestBuy to use my warranty to exchanged some of them. I try contacting LIFX directly to see what they recommend but there’s no one you can really talk to there, they want to do everything through email (so that was another horrible experience.) All in all I would stay away from this product until LIFX gets their act together and fix all the minor issues with this product. I do have to say though that these lights are awesome when they work without a problem.

I have this thing on 18 hours a day and it changes colors every 5 minutes as I have it setup as a weather like ball. It never has issues, is always connected and is a device within my large smart home that I never have to fix.

    Too finicky to be useful

I bought this light to replace a Hue outside my front door. The Hue worked fine but lacked the infrared capability of the Lifx+ The Lifx bulb was a bit tough to install, but not horribly so. It worked well initially and was easy to add to automations. It performed as expected. Then suddenly it stopped. It still provided the IR I wanted but no longer functioned with Apple HomeKit. I couldn't turn the visible light on or off with the HomeKit app or my voice, nor would it work with HomeKit automations. I was able to turn the visible light on and off using the Lifx app, but that was it. I initially consulted the internet but found no remedy. I finally contacted Lifx support. They responded quickly and gave me some guidance. After following their instructions, I was still unable to get the Lifx bulb and Apple HomeKit to talk. A follow up to Lifx resulted in more ideas. To their credit, the Lifx tech support team was trying to help with my problem. But this second round of guidance was where things got to be too much. Here is what I got from Lifx: 1. WiFi channels supported 1 through 11. WiFi channels 12, 13 and 14 are not supported. 2. UDP and TCP port 56700 should not be blocked - you may need to contact your ISP about allowing access to this port. 3. WPA/WPA2 or OPEN only. No support for WEP or WPS. 4. 2.4Ghz channel should be set to 20Mhz bandwidth 5. 2.4Ghz band b/g/n, 5Ghz not supported. 6. Advanced settings such as Airtime Fairness, WMM( also called WMM APSD) along with SQM and Qos on your router, can also cause issues with using LIFX lights, so, please disable these options for your 2.4Ghz network After working on this for an hour, I gave up. Smart Home devices are supposed to be largely "plug and play." The Lifx bulb is far from that. I removed the bulb and put the original Hue bulb back. It took less than three minutes to reinstall and set up. I can turn it on and off with my voice and it works properly with my automations. I lost the IR enhancement so the picture from my front door camera is diminished. But that is the only negative about the Hue. If Lifx can fix these major flaws, and is willing to swap what I consider to be a defective bulb for one that functions as part of a smart home, I would give them another chance. Otherwise, Lifx has lost a customer for life.

They are nice BC you don’t need a hub. However, they kept disconnecting from my wifi and that is prob BC of my service. After two years two of the bulbs stopped working. I personally would buy Phillips hue. Yes there is a hub but you only need one and it will control all your Phillip bulbs. When working lifx bulbs are great but BC of no hub, they were just not that dependable. Plus two bulbs died on me and since I didn’t have my receipt after two years they wouldn’t refund me and I understand.

    A $60 regular light bulb

I was so psyched to buy into the smart light products last year, and I still am. Just not with this product. This little gimmick is actually really awesome... when it works. The connectivity issues are so bad that I've used the bulb for more than half the time as a regular light bulb. The light will disconnect every other day and, more recently, not even connect at all. I'm trying their support for a third time, read all the documentation, configured my router settings to their exact specifications, and have hard reset this bulb more times than I can count. I've seriously put a lot of time into getting this thing to work. Don't believe me? Check out the app reviews before purchasing. There are A LOT of reviews like mine. But maybe I'm one of the few that has a wireless network that doesn't support it? The bulb functioned perfectly the first 4-5 weeks (return period) that I owned it. I liked it so much that I bought another. Initially I bought into LiFX because it had slightly better hardware than the hue, and it didn't require the costly initial investment (bridge) that the hue required. Dropping $100 to test one bulb to see if I liked the wifi enabled features was a bit to much. However all the money I saved ($60) is nothing compared to amount of time I've wasted trying to get this thing to work. I'd give this thing zero stars if I could.

Bought Lifx to replace Hue 2nd generation bulbs. RGB is much better with these. Better effects than the Hue also.

We purchased three of these during the holidays. When installed they would take turns disconnecting. When they lost connection they started flashing horribly. It was painful to even be in the same room. When we tried to return them, Customer Service said they did not accept returns on open light bulbs. Now we are stuck with them. Hopefully they will improve the firmware and we can try again. Disappointed in product and Best Buy response.

I’ve had this bulb for 3 years with moderate use. It has had issues off and on since I bought it. Now at 3 years it’s dimmed to where the 800 lumen bulbs look brighter. After contact lifx they wouldn’t replace it because it’s out of warranty. I’m now glad I didn’t waste anymore money on this company. And I’m glad they have been bought out. I purchased one wiz bulb to try out and haven’t had not one issue.

Nice bulb if it would stay online. Constantly going offline and for $60 you'd think it would stay connected. Returned it and got tp link bulb and not one issue since
