Do not buy this model!
The E1200-NP replaced an old Cisco router that was excellent until it finally wore out. I bought this model because of price and modest needs for a small network. The design is poor (indicator lights are in the back so you can't see performance without turning it around). Worst is that it drops the internet connection every few days and must be rebooted to reconnect.

Great speed but horrible range

Speed (50 Mbps the max. of my internet plan) is great but the range does not include my whole 1000 sq. foot house! It has easy setup for beginners and advanced settings for advanced users as well. I would only recommend if you live in a tiny house with minimal walls (maybe a one bedroom apartment). I am returning for a better unit.

This is a good basic wireless router. The disc included was not updated to Windows 10 but a call to customer service got me a download of the appropriate software.

Worst tech support

I've had this router for about 6 months and let me tell you, calling tech support is something to avoid. I've had to call 3 times in past three months because the normal power cycling fix does not work. Each time I call the tech reminds me that I have to PAY THEM because all Linksys products include only 2 months of free technical support. Beware of hidden fees before you buy this product! Then the tech blames my modem and blames my internet provider which are all working just fine! So basically you can buy this product but know after that you're on your own.

Tried to upgrade range to my old router but there is no improvement at all - funny fact - my neighbours routers signal is better inside my house than my own router ,range falls to 60% on 20 feet ,some Bluetooth dongles are better

I could stream videos on all three floors of my home with my Verizon FIOS router, which I had to send back due to signing up with Comcast. The Cisco router could not stream videos on the 2nd floor and wouldn't even connect to the internet on the 3rd floor. I traded for a Netgear 900N router, which was 3 times the cost, but fixed all the issues.

So bad, it made me write a review

I never write reviews and this experience prompted me to do it. First, I am very computer literate and have set up many routers in my days. I bought this for my parents and planned to configure before sending to them. I didn't want to install the software so I connected direct to the router through the internet. I wanted to configure as an access point only but every time I tried changing the settings, the router page would crash. I relented and decided to install the software on my Mac. CD not compatible with OSX 10.9. I downloaded latest software from Linksys website and it also was not compatible. I am not going to deal with their support as I already know how that will go so this junk is going back to the store.

The Wireless software went out after 90 days. When I contacted the support line, they wanted to look into my Laptop PC. The issue is the wireless Router not my PC after B.B. Geek looked into my PC. I had to run hardwire to connect two of my wireless products.

BEWARE: Linksys changed defect return policy!!!

I have purchased linksys for my last six routers at least. I once had a faulty one, and they mailed out a refurb. & send a shipping label for the defective one. NOT ANYMORE! If you are unfortunate enough to buy a dud, YOU have to pay to ship the piece of junk back to its place of shoddy origin, effectively raising the purchase price.
I write this bevause I wish I had known this new policy BEFORE buying one of the moderate % of devices which fail directly off the assembly line.
NO more Linksys for me...beware, you're out in the cold if you get a dud!

I bought this as a general use Wifi device for my average size single story house. I work from home and need a solid connection. This unit does not provide that. It constantly drops the connection, and I have to keep unplugging the power to reset it. It worked great for the first 30 days of course, so I can't return it. Don't buy this.

No Range

I bought this after my 9 year old WRT54G finally died. The plain fact is, you need external antennas to get good range. This thing couldn't get past 2 walls and barely gets through 1 wall. Kept dropping connections all the time. Who cares about it's speed or anything else if you can't use it. Bought an Asus RT-N66R after returning this.

I have had two Linksys E1200 routers fail in under 6 months. All of my routers prior to these lasted 3-4 years. The second router wasn't even used for 4 weeks and it failed. I have power strips with surge protection on everything. Nothing was tripped indicating a power surge. Looks like I'll have to start using another brand of router.
