lots of action love Ben in the movie me and family love it

Before watching Live By Night, I had very high expectations. This was Ben Affleck's fourth directorial effort and I was more than pleased with his prior films: Gone Baby Gone, The Town, and Argo. When seeing trailers for the film, it appeared to be a love letter to the great gangster films of the 40s. Unfortunately, the film suffers from some issues in story, pacing and character development. It is my opinion that these problems were the result of studio interference to keep the runtime closer to two hours for the potential of more showtimes in theatrical release and less of a chance in alienating the audience who are less likely to see a film with longer runtime. I feel that there is a great film out there in the form of a director's cut like we received with The Town, which greatly benefited from the extra half hour of runtime. All that being said, Live By Night is still worth the watch and the bluray transfer is top notch. The film was finished on a 4K intermediate and shot by three time Oscar winning cinematographer Robert Richardson, so it looks incredible. The bluray also comes with a Dolby Atmos track so all in all it is the perfect film to test out your system. I just wish it received a 4K release as most recent titles have been from 2K upscales. If you can pick it up for a low price, Live By Night comes recommended from this film buff.

Though it was too long and Ben tried to direct and star so it was not as good as it could have been.

If you enjoy old-time early mob/gangster movies, this is a must see. Personally, since I live in Florida, I wanted to see it because part of the movie is set in Florida (even though it wasn't filmed here) and I enjoy Ben Affleck's work. It was well done and ends with a good message.

My knee jerk reaction to this movie was that Ben Affleck made a movie about how he sees himself real life. But then again... I think he did that with Argo and The Town as well. So he sees himself as a political gangster thief, acting out his personal beliefs in his films.

It's a good movie for what it is. There's a decent amount of action, but the cast and script can only take the story so far. Affleck was definitely still bulked from playing Batman so his boxy stature was a little difficult to believe for that time period.

I like action movies. I was surprised that this movie bombed at the box office. I liked the plot, the actors, (Zoe Saldana, Ben Affleck, Sienna Miller, Elle Fanning). If you are into gangster movies, I think you would enjoy this movie.

I was expecting not to like this one, especially after seeing "The Accountant." However, I didn't think it was to bad and nudged it up to 4-stars. Nothing trailblazing here, but I did enjoy the performances and the story was alright too.

My shopping experience with the salesperson was great. What I didn't like was that we could not find the DVD in the department. It took at least 10 minutes of searching by the both of us to locate the DVD. The movie was great though.

Affleck's return to directing really isn't a letdown. Not a perfect film, but also not the train wreck critics have claimed it to be. It's a good time-period story, that should be seen if you're into the crime/gangster genre films.

Ben Affleck is great in this classic Italian Irish mob fest. And mind you I'm not a Ben Affleck fan.the plot is easy to follow the characters are engaging and sometimes problematic.but what really gets me is it's. Perfect I love the clothes the old cars and the promiscuous women. Don't pass this one up at 6 bucks it's a steal.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this movie, it came and went from the theaters so quickly, I feared the worst. I was pleasantly surprised. Pretty good story, decent acting, action, and was an enjoyable movie.

I saw this after I read the novel by Dennis Lehane and it is a fairly accurate representation of the novel. Some plot lines were dropped due to time constraints but overall it's a good representation of the novel.

Although a bit lengthy, this movie has all of the elements of the classic Prohibition gangster movies of the past. There is something for everyone. The special features are well done, but extremely limited. The previews are standard.

An underapperciated gem of a Gangster film by Ben Affleck, He does great directing and being the main star, is it on the same level as the town? NOPE! is it terrible as some critics say it is? no!. If you love gangster films you might appreciate this one.

I like Ben more as a director than an actor. I feel like the right pieces were there for a better movie but it just didn't fit well enough for this to be a great movie.
