    Sci Fi Standout

Something happened a while ago with Tom Cruise, he started picking great movies to star in again. Edge of Tomorrow is certainly one of his best outputs ultimately. Now upon first viewing this movie if you have an idea of what the premise is, like me, you may think how in the world will this sustain itself for to hours and still be enjoyable. Certainly other movies have tried over the years to pull off the retread groundhog day esqe plot, Vanishing Point and Source Code to name a few more recently and it seems that films with that style of plot are becoming better and better and finding the balance to pull off a seemingly tough plot line. There is actually quite a bit of humor sprinkled in this one, and it helps pull off the believability and idea that a person keeps reliving the same events. The action and effects are top notch and well done. This one deserves to be seen.

Of course a great movie, but this review isn’t about the movie. It’s about this BLU Ray edition. It’s very barebones. Only the disc is included and no Digital Copy. In todays day and age, why not include it. 90% of movies include the digital edition, so I can literally bring my library of movies everywhere I go. Also, it is Blu-ray, so where is the additional content? It’s slim. Feel like there was a lot more back end information to this movie that isn’t told. For a lover of this movie, it should be included with this edition.

    Wonderful, entertaining action sci-fi film

This is a great sci-fi action film that I would recommend to any fans of the genre. If you don't typically watch these films, I would give it a try at least. Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise are charismatic leads and well-acted leads. Even if you don't like Tom Cruise, you still want to see it just to see the number of ways he can die in this film. Otherwise, the direction and the action in this movie are noteworthy. There is no shaky cam or rapid cuts here; you can distinguish what's going on in the action sequences unlike some other movies. The script is good enough on its own and there are some rather amusing moments throughout the film despite the somewhat dark premise of the alien invasion.

My wife and I absolutely loved this movie. Without giving any spoilers, we went from shocked to gripping our seats, to cheering the main character on, to questioning whether the goal was even possible, to utter horror that the goal was now impossible, to no way that just happened. In the obvious realm of science fiction, the whole story was very entertaining and one that we have watched many times since and could foreseeably watch many times more. This movie is one of my all-time favorites because it provides one perspective of what a person could accomplish if they could relive the events over and over, each time with knowledge and capabilities earned from previous attempts. I highly recommend it!

An Alchemy of Groundhog Day and Resistance

"Edge of Tomorrow" is what happens when the movie "Groundhog Day" and the video game "Resistance - Fall of Man" are combined. Superbly acted and wonderfully choreographed, a viewer is absorbed into a story of second, third, nth chances of the desire to make a difference in the battle for love, freedom, and life. Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt bring intense charisma, character development, and chemistry. Imagine the challenge to convince someone that you love them and they love you on a recurrent basis while fighting hostile aliens in Europe. The movie is definitely targeted to the Sci-Fi audience, but people seeking philosophical stimulation and redemption will enjoy the film from beginning to end.

    Good Story, Plenty of Thrills

Even though the repeat part of the story has been used before (Groundhog Day), It is handled well in this story and does not end up as a collection of boring repetition sequences. The story advances rapidly and gives us plenty of thrills along the way. The 3D quality of the disc set at times is a little too dark in some of the low light scenes. It is not so dark that it ruins the scenes but you can quickly see the difference in lighting between the 3D version and the regular Blue-Ray versions(the 2D version having a slight bit more detail ). In all the CGI is slick a well integrated. There are times when Emily Blunt steals some scenes, which is no small feat since Tom Cruise plays the lead character. In all, sci-fi fans, don't think too much, grab hold of the bar and ride this Roller coaster.

Ground Hog Day meets Starship Troopers

Great, fun sci fi movie. Unique storytelling element ala Ground Hog Day with Bill Murray. Live. Die. Repeat. Without spoiling much. The basic premise is Tom Cruises character gets swept into a global war with an alien force. Somewhere along the way(you'll see) he starts repeating the day as he is killed. While this schtick might seem highly borrowed from Ground Hog Day, it works. It's painful, and the deep scarring of emotional trauma is seen and hinted at as the movie progresses. IN a nutshell, a great popcorn movie with amazing effects, wonderful acting and a surprise ending. You'll hardly notice the 2 hours go by as you are sucked into the never-ending/ever changing day.

This is one of the best movies I saw this year. To me it's a movie based on the tropes of almost all video games but executed far better than any movie based solely on a video game. by that I mean in most games especially shooters you play a level, get to a certain point and then die. You'll repeat that until you've memorized where the enemy will be and will thus get further each time. This movie is kinda the same idea the difference is that they don't keep repeating the same scenes as that would get boring real fast (your watching not playing). It doesn't waste to much time getting to the action either. If you like action movies buy this movie you won't be disappointed.

I am not even kidding. I knew I would enjoy it being huge sci fi fan and all and there is always movie that tops them all (Elysium last year, Prometheus year before) and this here is it. Cast is brilliant and seeing Paxton age so well is worth the price of admission. Movie itself has great special effect, aliens are well thought out if not straying too much from proven formula and plot actually makes sense. Surprise to me was how funny this movie turned out to be. I have to give credit to carious vehicles in the movie as they took part in the funnies moments. You'll know what I mean when you watch the movie. Highly recommend to both sci fan and comedy fans!

The one thing I thought after seeing this film was "Hey, that wasn't bad at all for a Tom Cruise movie." That in and of itself is a critique of our time and the film industry. However, that is an honest assessment of the film. The plot isn't entirely original but the execution is decent and the action isn't too over the top considering the content. I liken it to Minority Report in as far as I didn't expect too much from the film but was surprised that I was surprised that it wasn't a complete waste of time. The story is interesting enough and Cruise doesn't take himself too seriously, though I don't know if that's an acting style or he doesn't know what's going on per se, and so sci-fi might be Cruise's best shot at "going out on top," so to speak.

Fantastic movie that creatively blends drama, action, and comedy. If you like good action movies, there's more than enough here. And the humor, although subtle, is also abundant. It's fun seeing Tom Cruise in a movie like this, for much of the humor comes from him and his great performance. The characters are all very well cast and it's a perfect role for the late Bill Paxton. My wife and I have watched this countless times, each time blurting out more and more of the memorable lines from the movie. Just the fact that you're even looking at reviews of this movie tells me you're going to love it.

Expecting another Mission Impossible, I was pleasantly surprised. I'd be lying if I said this movie was primarily bought to see Emily Blunt kick some alien rear but the story actually turned out pretty good. The progression/comparison of Tom Cruise's character at beginning and end was interesting. There's a decent bit of comedy in the training montage and it had a sort of Max Payne introspection to the train-die-respawn-level up-repeat process often found in video games. As with most time-altering movies, it leaves you with what life is ultimately about in the first place: choices. If you want a mixture of "Primer" and "Groundhog Day" meets "Saving Private Ryan", you should consider this movie.

I picked this movie up on sale after seeing it once years ago. I couldn't really remember it and took a chance. Is it the best movie ever? No, but Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt make for some good on screen action and enjoyable Sci-Fi. The "repeat" part makes for some fun scenes. The Blu Ray audio track makes great use of the Surround channels if you have them configured. Picture quality is what I expected from a Blu Ray.

To those sci-fi lovers who also like Tom Cruise, I highly recommend this. He gives a great performance. To those sci-fi lovers who hate Tom Cruise, I highly recommend this. He gets murdered repeatedly. You'll love it. This is a highly inventive movie with great special effects and plot twists that keep you guessing. Tom Cruise is stuck in the same day trying to stop an alien invasion. The premise of being stuck in the same day reminded me of Groundhog Day, but that is where the similarities stop. One of the most entertaining films I have seen recently, and I regret not having seen it in the theater.

I've always loved the repeating timeline thing. Groundhog Day sticks out as the first instance of this I can remember really latching onto, and the film Source Code from a few years back also had a similar plot mechanic. Aside from the somewhat fun nature of playing around with the plot device, I like the overall way in which we watch a man progress as a character despite the fact that the rest of the world has stopped progressing at all. The action scenes are wonderful, and the sci-fi is fascinating. It was definitely one of my favorite movies of last year, and I'm pleased with the blu-ray release.

I'm a fan of 3D movies at home and am a little bummed it did not catch on as well as hoped. The movie itself can be reviewed anywhere but this is for the 3D. Don't get me wrong, the movie was "converted" to 3D post-production so it doesn't have the depth as a true 3D movie. But on my 65" Samsung TV at home it was great. Even made me duck a few times during the battle scenes. I'll continue to purchase 3D titles and think action movies like this look great in 3D. I hope more thought can be put into the filming process for 3D and not as an afterthought.

Not since "Memento" starring Guy Pearce has a movie used the "repeat" format to this success. I will admit it took some real effort to get the intended effect with "Memento" but not so much with this film. The slight changes to the scenes were just enough to "ease" the repetitive nature of the story. I also think that this was one of Tom Cruise's better jobs of acting. A lot more emotion came across in his face, rather than the somewhat predictable state of mind of most of his acting jobs. We have "repeated" this movie experience several times since buying it ... and especially in the 3D format.

Edge of Tomorrow, one of the best sci-fi movies in the last couple of decades, unfortunately suffered from poor promotion and a title that made no sense until you see it. Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt have amazing chemistry that grows through redoing battles because of a time loop, each time learning something new. Yes, it sounds like Groundhog Day, but this is more convincing. Despite poor performance at the box office, there's actually talk now of a sequel. And yes, this is a DVD, but on my 47” screen still looks great.
