SFX were so poor it was fun to watch. Scale models with water were the worst. But once you get past the effects the story line was original when this was made in 1976. Today it has been redone at least a dozen times.

It's a sci fi adventure that was made in the 70s so you get what you expect.

Firstly Bestbuy has made an error in their description.. It is widescreen 16x9 enhanced at a ratio of 2.40:1 .. I have this disc and have watched it a number of times, BB description of full-screen is erroneous.
Logan's Run looks better than I have ever seen it, this Blu-ray while making LR look superior also exposes alot of the special effects, showing how dated they are, but does not or cannot take away from its greatest strength, that is, the quality of its actors.
The storyline is just so darn interesting that it just captures your attention and holds it through the entirety of the 119 minute run. Admittedly Logan's run shows its age when viewing the hair styles of its actors and supporting cast, from its 70's feathered hair styles to decor that only lacked lava lamps to complete its retro look .
The Video quality is a mixed bag, at times in well lit scenes is magnificent to darker scenes that are plagued with blotches of over compensated over-contrasted swarms of grain, at 15:38 the image is dreadfully bad, showing not much care was used in the cleanup of the source materials. It's just an average attempt by WB and that is exactly what the video yields.
The Audio is TrueHD and is a front heavy affair, with only the music soundtrack given much play in 5.1, with only a few attempts at discrete sounds in the rear field. Volume is strong but at times the characters get drowned out by the music track.
Extra's consist of a trailer, a commentary track & a 10 minute featurette called " A look into the 23rd century " that is in very rough shape.
Bottom line is, if you have the 5.1 DVD hold onto it, give it a year or two until the double-dip Blu-ray version hits the shelves before you decide to dole out the moolah!

Truly a timeless classic

One of my all time favorite films, penned by the mighty George Clayton Johnson (of Twilight Zone fame among other great projects) and starring the incomparable Michael York. Logan's run is about a seemingly utopian future where the Old are sent to Carousel (see: publicly eliminated) on their 30th birthday. Logan 5 (York) is a Sandman, an elite officer who chases Runners - those who wish live on past 30 and run from their fate. Well, when it's Logan's time to go to Carousel, he's none too keen and Runs for his life, pursued by his erstwhile Sandman pal.
Logan's Run was a perfect candidate for updating to Blu Ray - the stunning Technicolor and beautiful scenery throughout are brought to new, vivid life on your HDTV. Keep this in mind, however: This movie was made in 1976. The effects are the best of their time, but do not go into it expecting to have your mind blown there. But the acting is star quality and the story is as poignant as it ever was, and is definitely worth seeing, and even owning, on Blu Ray.

Logan's Run is a great sci-fi movie. The plot is great! The movie is dated, but still an entertaining movie. One thing not so good is the movie is rated PG from when it came out in the theaters. It is not PG! I'm not even sure it would pass for PG-13 these days. There is a lot on the subject of s3x at least in the beginning towards the middle of the movie. The movie description does mention hedonism and casual s3xual encounters, but it was still rated PG, use caution.

C'mon WB release the widescreen version on Blu-Ray

The Blu-Ray is only a full screen version...come on Warner Brothers...this film deserves being released in widescreen in HD. Plus, include the bloopers and missing scenes from the original theatrical release as extras. The scene of Logan and Jessica eating the apple (ala Adam and Eve), which I saw in the theatre. I saw the bloopers in 1976 during the Academy Awards telecast so I know they exist.

I watched this at the theater, a couple of years later when it was on the after budget theater I went and watched it again. I really enjoy this movie. The premise of it is so intriguing, and very interesting. Plus you have a young Jenny Agutter in flimsy clothes, what is not to like!!! This is another movie I pull out on a regular basis to watch.

Sure it is a dated movie, so what! It is fiction and does have Michael York, Jenny Agutter and Richard Jordan giving good acting performances. It may not stay true totally to the books, but then what movies do. It does not have to be analyzed just watched and, enjoyed, and, don't expect high level special effects.
