Customers are saying

Customers are positive about the G MX518 Wired Optical Gaming Mouse's comfortable shape, upgraded sensor, and excellent price-to-performance ratio. Many appreciate its classic design and accuracy, while some find the scroll wheel noisy and the weight a bit heavy. A few users reported issues with the cable and overall functionality. The DPI adjustability is also a frequently praised feature.

I'll leave it simple. If you loved the original version of this, you need to get this one. I've had expensive Corsairs, lightweight Cooler masters, but this one is my favorite. For $20 this cannot be beat.

Such a masterpiece. Had the old version of this guy for 10 years. Only stopped using because no drivers for windows 10. Grab it as soon as I saw it went on sale. Can’t pass on the price alone.

Nostalgia. I had a MX518 for a looong time and loved the shape of this mouse. Now it's even better with the Hero sensor. I currently use a G502 Hero but still bought this as my backup

I snatched up this Logitech G series MX518 gaming mouse on clearance sale half off, plus a Best Buy coupon card applied. It’s regarded as the best gaming mouse ever. I used to have one back in the day and it was my favorite. Logitech due to popular demand brought this back with improved technology a few years ago. It’s truly a legend reborn and I always wanted to get another. I told my friend about it who used to also have one and he asked me to grab another for him while I was at the store for pickup.

This new G MX518 is a remake of the old, classic, MX500 series, first introduced in 2002, which was highly successful series of mice and regarded as one of the best series of mice of all time. The G MX518 is a very good mouse with many improvements from the original. Physically, this mouse is the same shape as the original model but what sets this mouse apart, is its use of Logitech's HERO 16K sensor. Physically, the mouse has great build quality and as far the buttons, it has 8 programmable buttons. Overall this is an excellent mouse and performs great in all aspects, from gaming to general usage. I highly recommend this mouse.

I loved the MX518 when it originally came out and still use one today. I bought one as a "backup," although with the better sensor, it may become a permanent switch.

Very happy with my mouse. It moves a lot smoother than my old hp usb mouse. I am using the 1600 dpi speed as my default. Maybe I'll be better at gaming now ... maybe

Took a while to get used to this mouse as my other one was quite old. Now, I wouldn't trade it. It is a gaming mouse; so a little larger, but works well.

Value is phenomenal, there is a reason the mx518 has had the reputation it's had for nearly two decades. Shape is great and tracking is super precise.

At around $50 bucks when I bought it, this is a solid mid-ranged gaming mouse. The buttons and cursor movement are very smooth and responsive. The only semi-downside are the right thumb programmable buttons. If you don't use them, and have a big clumsy thumb (like some of my family members!), you might find yourself accidently touching them, which will send your open windows scrolling like crazy! However, there is an indentation/thumb rest, and if you keep your thumb there as intended, and don't move it around, you'll be fine!

I was so excited to learn that they brought he MX-518 back. I was still using my original MX-518 from the early 2000's... worn out as it was, it still works. Fast forward to the day I received the package containing two of these new versions. The first one started off without a hitch. Everything is where it should be, although adjusting the DPI for a 1:1 experience took a few minutes. This is where the experience came to a dead stop. The scroll wheel on mouse #1 was perfect in the down direction, but up had a very weak indent and it was hard to feel each step. The up scroll also had somewhat of a scraping feel to it. After two days, the scroll now squeaks and scrapes in both directions. Not tolerable. I tried the backup mouse #2. Scroll indents are weak for both up and down, and it also has a scraping feel. OK, not a one-time fluke. Compared to the army of M310 mice we have around here for laptops, it is night and day. They all scroll perfectly. They have the "Logitech feel", same as my original MX-518. Obviously there's something amiss in the design or assembly of these new MX-518s. They are going back for exchange and one more shot at redemption.

So very sorry to hear about the faulty scroll wheels you had for both of the MX518's you ordered. It sounds like you've already gotten the ball rolling with getting replacements and I hope that you do find redemption. The new MX518 pretty much follows the design of the original, but using the newer HERO 16K sensor which features a capture rate of up to 17,000 frames per second and achieves 400+ IPS across the entire 100-16,000 DPI range with zero smoothing, filtering or acceleration. (Note, advanced settings require Logitech G HUB software available for download here:  https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025298133.) Hope that things get resolved to your satisfaction.
