I purchased the remote on 1/16/07 and the remote is not working properly. I'm returning the device to the store first thing in the morning. Very frustrating.

The tech made it too difficult. The one all remotes don't work and don't pair with the components. Stick with the original remotes. This one is going back.

I have progarammed and sold over 200 Harmony Remotes in the past five years. My first experience with Harmony was the 659 which I still like. My current favorite is the Harmony One but I am aware that the Harmony One is overkill and too expensive for some people. I have been waiting for a lessor expensive alternative to the Harmony One and the 650 is it. The 650 has a very similar design and button layout as the Harmony One. It has a backlight and tilt sensor. It programs the same as other Harmony Remotes. My only two reservations are the five component limit and adjusting the turn on delay for the TV must be done on the remote, not within the software. I am guessing that Harmony feels anyone who needs to control more than five components will consider the Harmony One and I agree. My ideal remote is one that can be operated with one hand and thumb. Also it should be designed so you do not need to look at it to operate it. You should be able to operate everything by the feel and location of the buttons. Judged on that, the 650 and Harmony One are nearly ideal. The 650 was on sale for $79.99 when I bought it and I consider it a great value for that price. Even at the normal $99.99 price I feel it is a great value.

    Awesome Remote

This remote is great! I've owned universal and programmable remotes for ten years and this far exceeds any remote I've ever used. It was easy to setup and the options for customization are countless. It works every device I wanted it to including my Apple TV. I consolidated 5 remotes for this 1. Those 5 remotes sit in a drawer now and haven't been touched since. This model supports only 5 devices, so before buying, count all of the devices you'll want to control as you might need a model that controls more. I have a TV, Satellite receiver, Blu Ray player, Apple TV, and surround sound receiver, so it meets my needs. I've had this remote for two weeks and the battery life hasn't seemed to diminish at all. The color screen that lights up when you pick it up is great for watching movies in the dark. It really does anything you need it to with the devices you set up. I show it off to anyone that comes over. If you have more than 2 remotes right now, I would recommend this remote.

Great Remote At A Fair Price

I purchased this 650 to replace a failing Harmony 880. I had the 880 for a few years and it worked very well until just recently when buttons began acting up and then not working at all. I was going to replace it with the Harmony One, but after some research I learned Harmony still has not been able to build durability into their products. Their concept is great but their hardware is notoriously weak. Considering my experience with failing buttons on the 880 as well as an annoying problem with charging it in the charging cradle, I decided it probably made more sense to purchase a less expensive Harmony with replaceable non-chargeable batteries. No big deal to replace the batteries once in a while, and when the buttons start to fail, I haven't invested $170.00 or more. Seemed to make sense to me so I went ahead and bought the 650 which just happened to be on sale at Best Buy for $54.99. I have setup the remote up to handle my Home Entertainment equipment, and have been using the 650 for a few days. It's not quite as slick as the 880, but it's plenty capable of meeting my needs. I really find nothing to complain about at this point, and by the way, I won't have to fool with the charger for 10 minutes trying to get the 880 to charge! Really, this is a very nice remote that won't set you back too much. I'm very pleased with the product.

    Fabulous But Can Be Complicated

    Posted .

Love this remote. We have a complicated setup that includes 6 activities: Watch TV using DISH Network, use smart TV apps (You Tube, Skype), listen to music using a hi-res music server, play Wii games, use desktop computer (that is in another room) using TV as monitor, use Blu-Ray to watch movies. We have the extra complication that we have an Emotiva receiver that we have set to boot up each time it is turned on (instead of leaving in standby that uses lots of electricity), so there is a delay that must finish before the remote sends the input commands. It took us TWO days of programming, trial and error, to get everything working perfectly. The helps available answered most of our questions. NOTE: If you do not know how your audio-video system is set up (what inputs are being used for your TV and your receiver), you may not be able to set up this remote without help. However, if you are some tech savvy, you will love this remote. We have put away ALL of our other remotes. This remote, once you get it programmed, is user friendly and light weight. The back-lit buttons are great. I noticed another reviewer gave the important tip that you must keep the remote pointing at your equipment until it goes through its steps. (It actually tells you that on its screen.)

The best remote I've ever used

Never again will I go back to using a generic remote. This remote shows me how good a universal remote can be. Once configured, you will never need to provide instructions to guests on how to watch TV, or a DVD for that matter. This is far beyond the universal remotes of a few years ago. It’s truly a customized remote. Setup took me about 45 minutes. That includes time to tweak the settings on a few of the buttons. During setup you supply information about the components in your system, and the inputs that everything is connected to. The guided setup was clear, however I can see how some non technical people could experience problems. After running setup, you connect the remote to the computer and have the remote programmed. The buttons on the remote are mapped based upon activity. When you press watch TV, the various components are turned on and turned to the correct inputs. The buttons are configured to watch TV. The Volume will control the Stereo, and the channel the cable box. Press watch a Movie, and the DVD player turns on and again, inputs are changed. The buttons can have their assignments changed in software. This way you can customize the remote to work the way you want it to. The LED screen on the remote is used for additional buttons. You can create multiple screens for each activity, with each screen having 4 buttons. This allows you to still have access to some of the lesser used functions. The LED screen is also used with Help. If you press the watch TV button, and it’s not working, press Help and it will ask you questions that you can answer with a simple yes or no. Questions such as is the TV turned on. In the end, I’m extremely happy with this purchase. I’m already planning on giving this remote as a gift for my parents and will be recommending this to friends and family. Logitech has found a buyer of their remotes for life.

Best Universal Remote on the Market for < $100

Frankly, it amazes me that there is even one review for this product that was below a 4 out of 5. The Logitech Harmony Universal Remote is absolutely easy for anyone to set up and use. Just plug in the remote to your computer via the USB cord (included) and download the installation software from logitech.com/myharmony. Once installed, the software will run through a simple set up process that looks up the model numbers of your TV, Cable Box, DVD Player, Sound System, etc., and then automatically adds/syncs the device information onto the remote control. No need for entering multiple "code" and other digits manually on your remote. The device itself it well organized and not complicated to use at all. Buttons are labeled clearly and are not overwhelming to even the less tech savy people out there. Of course, the built-in color screen does take some time (like 10 minutes), to figure out the additional features. Such as, creating "favorites" for your most popular channels and switching between sources and/or devices. One small feature that I thought was cool, the screen turns on every time you pick up the remote and shuts off just as quick once you put it down. Overall, this is by far the most advanced universal remote I have ever used for my home entertainment system, but at the same time is extremely easy and user friendly. I would HIGHLY recommend this remote to any of you reading this review right now, as well as my family/friends.
