Logitech 665 is a decent universal remote

Although I'm a self-professed techie, for years I've suffered with many different remotes (DVR, Amplifier, TV, etc) to switch between devices. I recently assisted my aunt (who had an older version 650) and thought to myself - gee, this would make my life easier. And it does! Setup is easy: download the software (PC or Mac required), create an account on the Logitech website, connect the remote to your computer via the enclosed USB cable and then start entering your different devices into the remote. The software guides you along the way and it's oh-so-easy. You can configure the hot-key buttons along the top to do certain things quickly. The screen offers more activities that you can program/access. There are only 2 minor annoyances: 1) Once you've configured the remote, you save its settings directly to your Logitech account. As of Mar 2020, there's no way to save the remote's settings to a backup file on your computer. So you have to log into your Logitech account to modify the remotes settings. In my aunt's case, this was an inconvenience since she changed ISP's, forgot her old login information, so we had to create a new account (we couldn't click "I forgot my password" because they want to send the password link to the old ISP email address which doesn't exist anymore) and call Logitech customer support to transfer the remote's saved settings to the new account. They were extremely helpful, btw. 2) Another slight downside is that this unit doesn't speak to my PS4 Pro -- so all I can configure the remote single-button activity to do is turn on my amp, switch it to the PS4 input, and turn on the TV. I know, all I have to do is hit the PS4 button on the game controller to turn it on/wake it up, but that one extra step would've been nice. All-in-all, a very nice unit for a reasonable price. I didn't see a need to get one of their fancier hub-centric remotes.

I managed to find the item at a great special sale price. I most recently had used Control 4, which requires a licensed dealer to program, but moved and decided to return to Harmony and not make my AV system so complex. This Logitech model, as with my previous Harmony I used a few years ago, was easy to program myself--no paying a dealer; it is jjust as easy to operate. Really pleased with the purchase!

    Excellent IR Remote

If you need ONLY IR capability in your remote this one is just about the best truly economical remote that normal folks can or want to afford. It has enough flexibility to set up your home theater exactly how you want it. It WILL NOT control newer equipment which uses either Bluetooth or internet as the communication protocol. This means your fire stick or fire tv cannot be controlled with this remote.

After speaking with the best buy geek member I felt like this model served all my purposes. I have used it for 2 weeks now and Love it. I would highly recommend saving your money on other higher priced units. All of my components are exposed for easy access to IR signal from remote. This unit controls my tv, receiver, Xbox, cable box, and 4k DVD player. It does a fantastic job at working all of them.

The remote works well. Only problem is I had to spend 1 hour with customer support because it was not working properly to begin with. The tech support is fantastic and problem was fixed. Can’t beat this remote for the price.

I have been using this remote for over a month and am very pleased. It was easy to program, although instructions are a bit intuitive. Best to have had some previous experience, but not much. It handles all my needs (which are on the complex side) better than any I had before. I liked it so much that I went back to Best Buy and purchased 2 more: for my kitchen and bedroom.

After dealing with a cheaper, smaller, problematic universal remote, we decided to upgrade to the Logitech Harmony 665. After a bit of a learning curve with the downloaded software, it’s worth the extra effort for the overall use of the product. The first thing that I like about this remote is that it is lightweight and durable. The buttons are big enough that if you have large hands/fingers like me, pressing them isn’t a problem. I frequently ran into this issue with the smaller, cheaper remote that we had and it was frustrating for me. Luckily I don’t have this problem at all with the remote itself. Setting up this universal remote does take some time, which is mentioned in the directions that come with it, but you may want to set aside more than 45 minutes to get used to how the software and this remote work. You need to download the software directly from Logitech’s website and install it on a PC or Mac to make all changes to the remote. For this review, I installed the software on my MacBook Pro with MacOS Catalina. You connect the remote to the software by the provided USB cable. Before consulting documents on Logitech’s website, I decided to try to use the software to see how easy it is to navigate. I recommend looking at the documentation on their site first to get used to some of the features and how to add devices to the remote. The software is where you will add all of your devices, along with other features such as favorites and setting up the buttons at the top of the remote. I love the added screen in the remote for some of the quick features. When you lift the remote, this automatically wakes the screen up and you can navigate through the options on your devices. We have a Samsung Series 8 4K Smart TV and some of the apps we have installed on the TV showed up on these menu options such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Other newer apps, such as Disney+ and HBO Max did not show up automatically as of writing this review. This makes it convenient to switch to these TV apps when we want to use them. There are a ton of options that I can’t cover in a single review, but I set up the Watch TV and Play Music features of the remote. With Watch TV, I have this setup to turn on the TV and go to HDMI input 1 which is where our Comcast DVR is connected to. Play Music turns off our TV and turns on the Bose SoundTouch 300 soundbar. Both of these were easy to set up and worked without any issues. There are many, many options that you can choose from with this remote and you can add additional steps. I was also able to set up Favorite Channels that will automatically go to those channels on our Comcast DVR. One cool little feature is that you can add icons to them, so I just did a Google image search and looked for icons of our TV stations. Even with icon size, the pictures aren’t the best, but it also depends on the image. This is not Logitech’s fault but just depends on the icon itself. In the week that I’ve owned this remote, I haven’t nearly covered all of its options, but I am still very happy with my purchase. There’s a lot of customization that you can add on this remote and the overall response of the remote with the devices we connected worked with no issues. It was definitely worth the $60 price tag and this suits our needs of a universal remote without breaking the bank. If you don’t want to spend over $100 for this remote, I highly recommend it if you are willing to get over the learning curve.

Relatively easy to set up. Works as expected. Had to buy a Flicr USB device so I could use this with my Amazon Fire TV. Does not work with Fire TV... expected that actually, but Best Buy Rep at the store said it would. I didn't think it would so wasn't overly disappointed when it didn't.

Have home entertainment setup including flat screen wall mounted tv, amplifier, phonograph, CD player, DVD player. Had GEEK SQUAD tech program everything on the Harmony unit. Makes life much easier with all the remote functions for all the equipment located on one hand held device! Highly recommend it! Easy to use (once programmed by a professional).

I had a fairly new universal remote that cost over 4 times more. When I purchased a new TV, the cost to reprogram the remote was much more than purchasing the Logitech Harmony. Easy to use and does the job.

These devices make multi-component TV setups a breeze. Every device is listed, harmony ask you questions like "do you want to change the channel on the TV or the cable box?" to make programming easy. Alll you need to do is press the activity button (like "watch TV") and it already knows what device the volume, channel, etc is assigned to. Get one!

Logitech Harmony programming system is the bomb. You just give model numbers for all the devices it has to control, and then you define several activities (like watching TV, watching a DVD...) and in each activity you set up what device the buttons should control. Based on the model numbers of the devices, it does a good job assigning functions to buttons on the controller. For example, it was easy set up my volume buttons to control the volume on my external speaker amp, rather than my TV volume (which I keep silent). You can also program some favorite channels on the screen, and there are icons online for the channels (like the NBC peacock, ESPN, etc). That is really great. It takes a little ramp-up to get into the mindset of how the activities and devices are defined and interact, but once you get used to it the system works well. I've been able to set up this controller to take over the function of my DirecTV remote, my Sony TV remote, and my DVD remote. And my wife is able to operate it (and she's not tech-savy). So it's great! I wish the screen were bigger, and I wish I could adjust the size of font and icons on the screen. There are 3 real buttons at the top that can be programmed, and I have one to start up regular TV, one for Netflix, and one for Amazon Prime. It would be nice to have a couple more of those (e.g., for playing a DVD), and they could be bigger. I don't use the number buttons at the bottom; I wish the display were bigger and a numeric keyboard could be displayed there instead of the physical buttons taking up room on the handset. I'd like all the other buttons increased in size taking up the space currently occupied by the physical number buttons at the bottom of the handset.

This can really do what every individual remote in your home does - a true universal remote. (I previously bought the Smart Home Harmony Hub and that remote cannot do that though it can sync to my Google Home using "activities"). The downside is that, this remote cannot sync with my Google Home, but it can also setup activities.

This is my Sixth Harmony remote due to upgrade to better models. This particular model makes a great bedroom remote and can control up to 10 items currently mine controls fans air conditioners and full home theater in the bedroom. You cannot go wrong with a Harmony programming online is really easy even for a beginner I think.
