Great for inside cabinet components

I bought the Harmony Smart Control to replace a 6 year old Harmony 890 remote. My set up has all the equipment, except tv set inside a cabinet, so this was the most affordable option for me.. The Harmony remote that will transmit both RF and infra red signals is $350 and probably will not last as long as the hub. With Smart Control, you get a brand new remote every time you get a new iPhone. And every member or guest of the family can use their own iPhone to operate the entertainment system.
The set up was easy for me, as I could transfer my components from my other Harmony account. If you have not had a Harmony remote before you will need the model numbers of your Receiver, Cable box, Blu Ray player etc.
All in-cabinet components are controlled by the hub also inside the cabinet. Your iPhone will send a bluetooth signal to the hub which instantly relays this as an infrared signal. You may have to experiment with placement. I had no issues having it reach all components to relay the IR command. The Smart Control comes with an 8 foot mini blaster cable that will relay an IR command to what is outside your cabinet, in my case the TV. I was able to experiment with placing this so it was virtually invisible, while still controlling the TV. I have it pinched in between a center speaker and the TV on top and then the wire through the wall to the cabinet. The wire was too short for my set up, so I cut it and spliced in a 4 foot segment (a longer cable is not available, I called). This is easy enough, just use a piece of two-wire cord from an old charger or something.
Once you have tested that you can control all components, you can program activities such as "Watch TV", Use "Apple TV", etc. By customizing these activities you will have powerful control of your entertainment system. I don't know how to use all the features of my regular remotes and I do not use them anymore. I replaced 5 remotes with the Smart Control. If you have any issues, product phone support is excellent and free for the first 90 days. Make sure you get everything to work during this period.
Some negatives to be aware of, but all manageable, are: The Hub will need to be "synced" from time to time if you have made changes. If you find that something is not working, try "syncing". The set-up can be frustrating, make sure you have plenty of time, peace and quiet. You may occasionally drop the network, especially if you also use your IOS device for other things while watching TV, just launch the ap and connect again. I have not found any use for the IR remote that comes in the box as my components are in the cabinet. I am satisfied with this system, it does take some time to set up.

Got this to replace a Harmony one. Easily transferred from it, to the new one. Now I can control my PS3 with ease as well, and with the remote IR blaster, my TV is more easily controlled. Love it.

Initial setup was a little difficult but once set up the product works great. I use my Ipad or Iphone most often to control the items and it works flawlessly. Was able to move the PS3, DVR and Receiver into the closet out of the room entirely using the include IR Blaster. Great remote for the money!!

Ordered this to replace an older Harmony remote. Item arrived with no issues and was packaged nicely. The reason for ordering this was to be able to use our smartphones as remote controls, one less controller to worry about.
Setup was a breeze and easy to follow. It is done through the smartphone app. Since setting up the system, I have added some components and they were easy to add and use. Even allows me to control my PS4 (except powering it on).
The only thing preventing a 5 star review is that the app for the smart phone can be slow to load as it talks to servers and the setup/management of devices can be cumbersome when setting up after the initial setup. But these are minor issues.

Very happy so far with this universal. The setup was straight-forward, easy. And the pieces all seem to be well-built, especially the "secondary" remote that is included; it can take a beating. To my surprise, I find that my family uses the secondary remote more than the phone app. I, personally, enjoy that it's RF and don't have to struggle with pointing the remote at anything. It's also simple enough that my 2 y.o. can start a blu-ray or pull up Netflix without help. I almost gave it 4 stars because I think the app needs some serious work. But, since it's not used often, and the secondary remote is so simple and convenient, these out-weigh the former. Also, the app works well enough to sit in the other room and mess with the wife and kid :) Overall, I would recommend this remote.

I have two of these hubs and I love them. The IR range on them is excellent, and the remote works great and feels like it was made for your hand. The setup process is very simple. What I love most about the hub is that it can interact with and control many other smart devices in the home. You can set up scenes and have it turn to a certain channel or power on certain devices while dimming the lights and starting the popcorn all at the same time. It even works with Google and Alexa. Obviously, you have to have the smart devices in your home, but if you do, the Harmony Hub is a no brainer!

Great list of compatible devices, easy to program, and works great. Only complaint is there is sometimes a delay between pressing the button and the action occurring.

Overall, I am happy with the remote system. I use it on a not so sophisticated setup with a TV, cable box, blu-ray player, PS3, and LG sound bar. I was able to setup all devices to work with my iPhone and the included remote through the setup on my iPhone. Most things work (quirks detailed below) and the remote has 3 "program" buttons on it where if you want to watch TV it will turn on the TV to the correct input, turn on the cable box, and turn on the sound bar. Same thing to watch movies on the blue-ray player etc. for one of the other program buttons. The third program button is intended to be used for music but it can be programmed for other things, PS3 in my case.
My main gripes are as follows:
1. It seems like the entire system is geared around using your phone as the remote for the system. I do not like this and it was never my intention when I bought it. While the included remote works, it seems like it was added as an afterthought and the company really wants you to use your phone to control everything.
2. It does not always turn off my sound bar when I hit the "off" button which should turn off all components. This requires me to keep my sound bar remote handy and this was one of the reasons for buying the system as I wanted to keep all my remotes out of sight.

Bought one of these for the living room and liked it so much I bought another for the bedroom. If you have your cell phone or tablet handy, you have your remote! I like that I can turn my system on from anywhere, and make it sound like I’m home.

Went thru the setup process and was amazed at how easy it was. It controls our Samsung TV, Stereo, DVD player, Amazon Fire and Cable Box all from the same remote! The app for our Android phone means I am never looking for the remote. I always have the phone close by.

I bought this remote to replace my Harmony 1000. I found that I missed the "hard" buttons of my Harmony One and hated having to always look down at the 1000 to use it, (plus I started having battery issues after having the remote for a couple of years).
This remote works much better for me. The only drawback to this remote, (and it is a fairly big drawback) is that the Play, Stop, FF and Rew buttons are so small and placed so closely together that I can't use my thumb to press these buttons as I normally would. I have to kind of awkwardly hold the remote with my fingertips and use my index finger to push the buttons. Not a complete deal breaker but I prefer to rest the remote in my palm and use my thumb. I tried the Harmony Touch to see if the button placement of that one would work better for me and unfortunately the shape of that remote is so awkward that it makes using the buttons at the top a chore so I returned the Touch and stuck with this one. Other than that the remote works great.
The Harmony software simply ported all of my devices and activities from my 1000 so that I had the remote up and running in about 10 minutes. Very handy if you are replacing a previous Harmony remote with this one.
The fact that you can also use a smartphone or a tablet to control your system is a nice little bonus but other than to test it out when I first got the remote I've never used that feature. If I had wanted to use a touch screen remote I would have stayed with the 1000.

I bought this to control my entertainment system through the Amazon Echo Dot. The configuration takes a little bit, but once you get it down, it's a nice little gadget.
I now use voice activation to control my TV, cable, Xbox, PS4 & sound bar (music). If I say "turn on TV," my cable box turns on, and TV & sound bar change to the cable setting. If I say "turn on Xbox," the cable box goes off, TV & soundbar input change to what I need.
You can transition from the different modes, or on to the different modes from everything powered off. It's really cool.
The remote that comes with it — while not perfect — is also great to eliminate the 4-5 you likely have. I have the controls for my vizio TV remote, Fios remote and sound bar remote all configured to it. My girlfriend isn't into the voice activation, so she uses that. There are useful buttons (TV, movie, music) which can program shortcuts. Example: Press the "TV" picture button, and your TV/cable box/sound bar go to the appropriate setting.
It's a nice little toy. There are some flaws — needs to be restarted, only certain words trigger, updates sometimes cause hiccups (can't control volume with voice), but it's a neat gadget.
I'd recommend for anyone who enjoys home automation. When my dad came over and demoed it after setup, he went out and bought one himself.

Setup was quick and all my devices were easily 'found' by the software. I was able to add a few specific commands to tweak the programming and the system is working very well.
The included remote is compact with a nice feel and a high build quality.

I was so frustrated that the TV and cablebox would not go off at the same time using the cable remote. You had to aim it at just the right direction or otherwise get them out of sync. Then I had to use a separate remote for the soundbar. This SmartControl remote solved my problem! However, it was not without the need for tediously 'teaching' the remote various functions, including on mine, what each numeric number was for the cablebox remote. Amazing that the online setup could find my 30 year old receiver after putting in the name and model number and, wow, functions on the remote were then automatically known to it! Finally, all was set after additional manual teachings (and reteachings). Now, I can adjust volume or turn on and off the radio or TV with the cablebox and the sound bar with the click of just one button with the click of just one button! Pricey but a gem!

Bought this remote to replace an older Logitech I have had for years. Very easy to set up and connect to my home wifi. Also, got the app on my smart phone and tablet so I can use either of them in place of the included remote. Because of the design of my entertainment stand, the shelves extend further out as they go down, I had to place the IR blaster at the back of the room instead of on one of the shelves like the instructions suggest. This is not a problem unless someone is standing between the IR blaster and the devices it is trying to control. I only have one occasional problem and that is that my TV doesn't always turn on/off with the other devices (DVD, SAT, Game console). This isn't a huge problem though because the app has a trouble shooting feature that allows you to turn on/off, or change the input of every device involved in whatever you are trying to do.

I have tried multiple "smart remotes" over the year. A SONY, some products for the iPhone with an IR adapter, and another logitech remote. This particular product works perfectly and is easy to configure. I use it to control a Sony multimedia receiver, a Panasonic plasma display, a Dish receiver, and an Apple TV. Before, I needed three of four remotes. Now, I just need one. I click on one button, and I can watch Apple TV (Netflix, Youtube, iTunes Radio, etc). I can then control the volume and the Apple TV as I wish. If I click another button, I watch my Dish DVR and I can control it perfectly. This system took about 15 minutes to program. This is very nice. The Apple TV is controlled by bluetooth, with a great response time to control pause, rewind, etc. The dish response time is also great. Very enjoyable and definitely worth the money.
