Handheld portion is minimalist, actual IR transmission is on base station; I’ve used the free phone/tablet app too. Some negative comments: 1: Handheld remote not backlit, difficult to use at night. 2: Configuration instructions in box are useless, online instructions were helpful, I configured the base station with a laptop; I don’t know how else it could be done if your Wi-Fi has an encryption password. It takes some technical savvy to get this working

This remote seems to work just as it is supposed to. The app that you use to configure the device is very simple and straightforward. I have had no issues with it so far, great remote.

As someone who is not that tech savvy, the Harmony Smart Control is the perfect solution. This is the third attempt we've made to get rid of the 4 remotes it takes to control our family room setup. The Smart Control makes it easy view or listen to anything we choose. Whether it's streaming through Amazon, Plex, watching a bluray, watching cable television, or simply listening to music, the Harmony Smart Control turns on and off all the right devices and sets the input/output to the appropriate places correctly the first time - without fail.

Got this to replace an old Harmony remote ... thought the smart phone option would be good for everyday use and the remote is a bit simpler than the old one (but still has small buttons).
Setup was straightforward and took about 30 mins to program for TV, Blu-Ray, Sound System, and AppleTV.
Pretty easy to use ... only challenge was adjusting the timing on switching inputs for the TV from the STB to Blu-Ray to AppleTV. Turn-on into the different modes was OK, but if I turned it off from any mode other than TV, the turn on to TV was dorked. Took a little bit of trial and error to get that cleared up. Now it's easy and works as advertised.

The ability to program macros to turn on my system was nice. The app worked quite well. Unfortunately, the remote has issues with controlling a PS4. Sony won't let it turn the system on by itself. However, even if you use the PS4 controller to turn it on the app doesn't work well on the ps4. You can move through the system menus, but fast forward, rewind, and a bunch of other features just don't work properly.

I’ve always been a fan of the harmony remotes. This is no different. For a great price it controls all my devices and even works with Amazon echo.

I was using 3 remotes (cable box, TV and AppleTV) just to watch the AppleTV. This setup is wonderful and has de-cluttered the situation. Set up was a little time consuming as I had to use the RF blaster on my home theater unit and actually had to input the theater into the settings twice to get it right. Once I got it working tho it's been perfect since. I ran out to buy another before the sale was over. This one is a little odd. After a while, now at times when turning on for the first time it doesn't control the cable box except to turn on/off. If I switch to AppleTV then back it works fine. I'm OK with this and very happy with the remotes.

I was looking for a remote to turn on everything with the touch of a button and not break the bank. This remote has the capability of controlling all my equipment which is inside a cabinet and turn on my tv. Completely customizable with the app/online interface. Big bonus is that it can control my Xbox one which is good since I have YouTube tv and watch all my live tv through the Xbox. Excellent remote with great features.
My only suggestion would be to build in a “find remote” feature. It’s pretty skinny and can get lost in the couch pretty often.

The future of remote control

My previous Logitech remote finally met its maker after the kids dropped it on the floor for the umpteenth time. My options for replacing it were to spend $300 for another fragile remote or try the smart control.
We use the included remote for 90% of tasks. It works well and doesn't have a battery door to fall open. It's apparently RF and not IR so it works at any angle. If its not within reach or across the room, I then use my iPhone or ipad instead. The iOS apps are functional but could be better, I would prefer more of a remote style layout (think uverse remote app) than the every button looks the same layout of the harmony app.
One thing that isn't well documented is that the base itself is an ir blaster, so you can use it in conjunction with the wired blaster to control two areas of a cabinet, etc. I ordered a 2nd blaster for $10 online so that I could control all my devices in a split tv console.
I'm controlling 5 devices. The included remote only has 3 function buttons but you can assign short press and long press functionality so short press on the music note button controls my Roku and a long press switches to Apple TV.
Every once in a while its going to get out of sync and turn the tv off instead of on (after a power failure or other hiccup) but that's not a problem unique to this device. My old harmony 550 did the same thing.
This thing is also way faster than my harmony remote was. It switches inputs in a blur.
Bottom line is that this device plus an inexpensive Android tablet can be purchased for less than logitech's premium remotes and you have an 8" touchscreen instead of a tiny embedded screen.
I would recommend it to a somewhat technically savvy person.

A must have for those who control multiple devices. I use this to run our theater system that is made up of tv, receiver, cable box, and 4K uhd blu ray player. All the components are in a different room so it is nice to be able to control all of them with this one remote. Only complaint is only 3 default buttons

I likeI like the hub and would definetly reccommend it. The remote I found to be very confusing and with few options. I decided not to use it and instead used a 7" tablet that I wasn't using and downloaded the app. This is really great. I set up different activities such as one for cable tv, one for Plex account on a Raspberry Pi, and one for music with the receiver only. Easy to set up and use. The hub works with Google Home (after I reread and followed the instructions).I like the hub and would definetly reccommend it. The remote I found to be very confusing and with few options. The iOS apps for this device are terrible. I've got this hooked up to my TV, Amazon Fire TV running XBMC, Xbox and soon will have it set up on my HDMI splitter. The remote itself is basic but does a great job - the bluetooth connectivity to the Fire TV is a great bonus. Unfortunately the iOS apps have terrible response time - you have to keep the app open at all times to make any real use of it. Luckily I can use the always-ready XBMC remote from my iPhone and iPad but still have to deal with the issue when watching over-the-air TV. It sometimes takes 10 seconds, sometimes 30 to get the app open and connected - even if the app was already running in the background - - even if you had it open 5 seconds prior! Thank goodness for the physical remote. I'm optimistic that there will be an upgrade to the App in the near future.
