I cannot possibly say enough good things about this set, this is definitely the version to own. Each movie is very rewatchable, has tons of extras, and the video and sound are both reference quality. The included case to hold all 3 extended versions is a nice touch. I am especially fond of good sound, and this dts-es discrete soundtrack is fantastic. So, even without hi-def, you are getting fantastic quality. If you own a good home theater system, this is very much worth an upgrade from the standard edition dvd's.

This extended version dvd set of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy is just outstanding, though I only personally cared for 'Fellowship of the Ring.' It's a shame the sequels, although good, didn't live up to the magic of that first movie. Perfect box set here for fans, loaded with so many bonus features it may take half a lifetime to get through! These dvd versions add a bunch of must-see extra footage into the films, which was cut out theatrically for time reasons. But fans will love it!

I grew up reading the Lord of the Rings books. So, it was just a matter of time before I got my hands on this set. Did this set of movies follow the books exactly, well, no. But, Peter Jackson did a superb job in making the movies as close to the books as possible. The cast, the directing, effects, music, and scenery are all awesome.

This collection brings together the special extended versions of the LOTR trilogy that you can buy separately but puts them all in an elegant hard cardboard case that mtaches the styling of the individual releases. It will fit nicely in the shelf of anyone's DVD collection.

The movies are good, but at a little over eleven hours it becomes an investment to watch them all. I still haven't even looked over what all the special features are, let alone tried to watch them. Some of them are pretty interesting and some just seem to take away from the movies. It's better than a lot of other movies adapted from books that I've seen though.

This movie has the most beautiful scenaries. The additional scenes take you deeper into middle earth, Definatly watch all the extras. So much amazing information about the actors, making of, and costume and set designs.

this is one of the greatest movies ever made it is hard for me to like a movie and this movie made me like withen the first 5 min. i watched it.

***1/2 / **** A well directed well made fantasy epic. The films do have a slight tendency to become dull in spots but it doesn't overwhelm the viewer too much.A must see for fantasy addicts.
