For the price I paid the viewing is quite slow and delayed but it at least catches the people on the camera

Fairly easy to hook up and run. The video resolution doesn't seem to be as high as I would like but not bad. For getting email warnings I had to call and they explained a different way of getting it to work then in instructions.

I purchased this on 2/26/15 and I have had nothing but problems. I have been on the phone many hours talking to different techs...the last one sent a replacement of the DVR & I have to call them again today. So far I am not happy w/this at all.

Don't bother. It may be wireless but will repeat all your network traffic many times over. Your internet speed will crawl with this connected to it. Returned it for this very reason.

I'm new at a product like this so I'm not sure if this is as technical as I had hoped for. Perhaps I should have done more research.

    My Experiences

Bought 3 of these. 2 camera options. First thing I want to say is if in doubt, buy the 4 camera option unless you know you only want 2 cameras. I seem some other cameras on the lorex site but I've been on hold for 70 minutes with sales so best to figure out how many cameras you need before you buy. You need power to your cameras. You need to RJ45 cable to your existing Router. You'll need a monitor to configure. I didn't power up the antenna thinking that I would not need it but you do. Time server is not enabled by default - that's too bad. There's two places where you set FPS (frames per second). I set them both to 3. One of them speeds up remote playback. Remote playback is slow even at 16x. Others have had a problem when the power goes out but not me. remote playback show me exact time the power was out. I set up motion only to save disc space but it didn't work well. Leave it on continuous The cameras that come with this, don't move around or pan (unless I'm doing something wrong). These are running in 3 locations at short term rentals and they will pay for themselves just with early checkin and late checkout charges. It will also encourage folks to behave. We also know when exactly to go and clean them.

Great Security Camera, Very Easy to Install

Been shopping for Home Security Camera and found this at Best Buy. Did my research and true to the testimonies it is very easy to install. I am not a Handy Man but believe me the installation is no brainer. Thle only hard part is deciding where to install it but everything else works again is very easy. Highly recommended, I will add 2 additional cameras as this is designed for 4 channel system. Thanks Lorex

Great video, but functionality is not working

I bought this security system to provide remote security for a rural property. It was essential that the remote recording and playback functionality be working, including the email alarm capability. Bottom line is after an evening attempting to configure the system and an hour on the phone with technical support, I was unable to get an email from the system and did not feel the system was stabile enough for my needs. Although the wireless connections of the cameras to the DRV worked well and were stabile through-out my testing, below is a list of the issues that convinced me to return it. The Lorex Status Client for Mac was not stabile and would slow down and finally stop working after being remotely connected to the DVR for 10 to 15 minutes. It seemed to work fine after restarting the software. On many occasions the DVR settings made with the Mac software would indicate save, but when I refreshed the screen, would revert back to the previous settings. I got to the point I did not trust the application to save settings and had to check them on the DVR interface that was connected directly to the TV. Initially I had set the two cameras that came with the product on Ch3 & Ch4. This really screwed up the system, as it ran much better after I reset the factory defaults and set them up on Ch1 & Ch2. Obviously the testers at Lorex did not check that configuration expecting everyone to start connecting cameras in numerical order. Not a big deal, but is an indication of the poor testing the product received. I was not able to get an email from the system. I triple checked settings, used the default Lorex SMTP server… nothing worked. The technical support guy recommended that I not use the Lorex SMTP server noting that it gets "backed up". I searched the logs on the direct TV interface and they give no errors in regards to email… i.e. either the system just was not attempting to send the email, or it doesn't give any error messages to help you debug configuration problems. When I called tech support the technician was a bit put out that I was on a Mac and several times asked if I had access to a PC. He told me the software doesn't work well on a Mac and that I should really remotely access the system from a PC. He was baffled by how the software application on my Mac behaved when he remoted into my Mac. Search capability for looking for recordings did not seem to work as it should. It was able to find snippets of motion triggered recording, but that was all created by alarms, and the software was not able to find any alarm triggered recording, nor find continuous recording when I set that up on the schedule. This was with both the direct TV interface and the Mac application. There were various issues with the Mac GUI interface. One of them was the zoom function of the record playback timeline. If you zoomed in, the timeline would go from showing 24 hours to 12 hours, but the hours from 12 to 24 were off the screen and there was no way to scroll to it. Basically it was unusable in all but the 24 hour scale. A novice GUI tester should have found this which tells me they did little testing on the Mac application. There were several more issues, but anyone reading this review can get the idea. I hope I just saved everyone countless hours of wasted time fiddling around with this product. I am sure the PC application works better, but based on the issues I saw with the direct TV interface, there will still be problems with the video search a playback functionality even on the PC. My advice, if you have a Mac don't walk away from this product… RUN AWAY! If you have a PC, well you may want to give it a try if they drop the price to under $200. I will get my $499 back, but not the evening I wasted testing out this piece of garbage.
