Excellent But For The iPhone App

Most NVRs are eyesores and bulky but not this one. It is light and looks modern and clean. The look of the cameras is not exactly at the same par, but they look high quality. Once connected to my 4K TV and the included mouse attached, it was easy to set up. The only issue I had was with the included HDMI cable, which is extremely short. I was forced to use a spare one. Of course, that is the NVR part. Running the cables was not so easy at my house. The length of the included ethernet cables was adequate but if you have never done this type of thing before, you will need to contract somebody or spend quite a bit of time watching YouTube to learn how to do run cables around your house. To me, it was not an easy task. What is good about it is that it is more stable than wireless cameras and you don’t have to worry about battery or running power cables to connect them since they are fed directly from the NVR using power over Ethernet (PoE). Image quality was particularly good. There was some delay but perfectly acceptable. I was somewhat surprised that I could see in color at night at short distance although it does require some lighting to do so, otherwise it uses infrared to record in black and white. Since it uses HDR, the image is noticeably clear. You will need to fine tune the sensitivity of motion detection, but it works the way it should. There is a lot to like about this security system. Eight channels are more than adequate for most residences. I see more use for the mics in the cameras than the speakers, but it is nice to have the flexibility of talking and listening to people when necessary. These cameras should last a long time in any weather. My only complaint so far is that sometimes the image blurs a little depending on how fast the object is. One of the best futures is the ability to view remotely from anywhere and not needing a subscription to do so. With 2TB of disk space, it allows for days of recording. The only downside is that if your house were broken in and the NVR was taken, you would have no record of what happened. Not a huge concern for most but it should be kept in mind. These cameras have a siren that can be activated remotely, and the motion detection feature should help with that concern. What I like the least is the iPhone app. It needs a lot of refinement. It is slow even though I have gigabit speed to the internet. If it were not for this app, I would have rated this system with five stars. Overall, it is worth it for the quality of the cameras and for the nice design of the NVR, which you can connect to any TV or monitor.

Returned after I noticed these were wired instead of wireless. I hear it’s a great product from others that don’t mind running the cords to connect them.

Camera picture is great. Quite difficult on getting the recording to work the way you want. Like the time it starts recording a event and for how long. Still trying to get that right. Also a problem with the system time, it keeps going an hour off. I have tried different settings and the only thing that has is turning off the automatic update. Over all a good system just a few difficult set ups. Also if you want to add cameras, they are VERY expensive!!

    Excellent Home Security

This home security system has perfectly met my needs since setting it up. I use these as outdoor security, and have additional piece of mind being able to see around my home day and night. I have been able to catch the neighbors who allow their dogs to defecate in my yard and am also able to monitor package deliveries. Setup/App/Storage: Setting these units up was a breeze. I am medium technically savvy and encountered no issues. The product includes all hardware necessary to mount the cameras and get started. The app could be better designed, but functions reliably and I appreciate the notification settings. Performance/Video Clarity: The video is excellent quality and there is no lag whatsoever. There's none of the crappy, indiscernible, low latency security footage with these units. One thing I will say is that the lights built on these units alone are not sufficient to provide good night vision. I happened to already have spotlights installed at home, so that is less of a limitation for me, but something to consider. Without additional lighting, vision beyond 10ish yards is compromised. Otherwise, excellent. The motion detection is very sensitive, but refined and responsive. I have used this for continuous recording as well as motion activated. Reliability: I am thankful to not have used these in an emergent security event but I am sure they would function as designed if such occurs. I haven't had any glitches with the app, lost footage, or annoyances with motion detection like other brands. The NVR storage is a big plus as well. All in all I high recommend.

Night vision sucks! There are glares that causes the cameras to keep trying to focus in. In which makes it difficult to tell what the motion was that was detected. Especially if there is a lights (from a car) near. Camera will not stay in color mode at night either. The color mode and clarity of night vision is the very reason I was willing to spend so much on these cameras. Motion detection has called my 7lb dog a vehicle. Several times. It is also late; it will catch things as they are leaving opposed to coming. Lastly, the audio sucks as well! The sound is turned completely up on the NVR however, I had to turn my monitor's volume completely up as well in order to hear clearly. PLUS, in order to use 2-way audio through the NVR you must purchase a separate mic and speakers to attach to the NVR. (For $650 one would think it would automatically be installed on the NVR). Saddest part is, these cameras replaced 20 yr old cameras that had 2-way audio on the DVR. Overall, in my opinion, the cameras are a little more expensive than they should be. A cheaper brand will probably give you the same results.

I had a QSee NVR858 but got zipped in last month lighting storm. I purchased this Lorex and use the NVR to replace the QSee NVR. I connected all existing QSee cameras to this Lorex NVR and it works! The Lorex mobile app works also so I can monitor the cameras on my phone now. Next step, I will replace the existing QSee cameras one by one with the new Lorex cameras to take advantage of the newer tech! Happy with the purchase.
