I played this game a few years ago, after having been extremely impressed by the others in its series, even despite the 1st Lost in Blue having a few faults in mechanics. I am a 38 year old woman & have been somewhat of a video game addict since my brother first came home with an NES back around 1986. Until I discovered Pokemon Platinum, Lost in Blue 3 had been the video game that I had gotten the highest # of gameplay hours out of, reaching about 350 hours total over a period of 3 or 4 months. That's how involved it is.
And that is a good thing. This game has you survive in somewhat real-time: every 7 seconds in our time is a minute in the game. You play as one of two possible characters who has crash landed on a deserted island and must survive by fishing, hunting and building or seeking shelter and tools to survive.
Spear fishing involves tapping the screen of the DS with a stylus as fish go by; hunting is basically the same. Characters are able to die from thirst, exhaustion & other means but the game reverts back to the previous save points.
One really enjoyable aspect of Lost In Blue 3 was cataloguing all of the hundreds of items & recipes - from wildlife to mushrooms to fish to spices. It was extremely comprehensive. The main goal is to survive while trying to find a way out of the wilderness. Amazing game.
