I missed this in theaters, and was keen to see it. While neither Paul Dano or John Cusak remotely resemble Brian Wilson physically, they are both terrific and quite believable playing the young and middle aged troubled pop star. Paul Giamatti is known for playing misanthropes and pr--ks and he does a superb job portraying the greedy charlatan eugene landy (a genuine a----le and unethical bas---td). Elizabeth Banks is quite good in her role as Wilson's girl friend and "savior". The music is classic Beach Boys and wisely they used the actual tracks for most of it, rather than trying to re-record these Wilson creations. An unusual treatment for a rock bio-pic. Recommended.

A very empathetic story of Beach Boy Brian Wilson. It covered their start, one young actor plays him then; John Cusack plays the adult Brian. We see how he had physical, brain, problems and how a bad Dr. Makes it worse. Thank gig his girlfriend (who later becomes his 2nd wife) fought to rid Brian of that mad doctor. A highlight is the 'young'actors do the actual singing in the studio. And the ones playing Dennis Wilson and Mike Love just nail the real-life guys. Now I want to re-listen to later Beach Boys music, I've grown new appreciation of it.

Finally the mystery behind the Beach Boys and what happened to Brian and the others is revealed. Brian's genius is uncovered, astounding talent in spite of his abusive father. Superb acting, showing us a young Brian's climb to success and parallel mental illness, and switches back and forth to his time in recovery. Beach Boy fans will love the songs and appreciate knowing what happened to probably the most talented songwriter in rock and Roll history.

Brian Wilson wrote most of the songs for the Beach Boys. He heard music in his head that turned into great hits and some failures. But he was the driving force for Pet Sounds - the Beach Boys masterpiece. The movie is split into early life and mid life, portrayed by 2 different actors. Yet it works. It helps you understand his greatness, and his difficulties with drugs, family and life. A great movie everyone who is interested in music or great acting should see.

The life and music of Beach Boy Brian Wilson has never been explored in quite the way it has been in this new movie "Love And Mercy". The story about this musical genius , (Paul Dano plays the young Brian while John Cusack takes on the older version), is a "warts and all" telling of his life so far. Paul Giamatti plays Dr. Eugene Landy to great effect and Elizabeth Banks is perfect as the woman who eventually rescues Brian from his control.

Love & Mercy was truly a sad story but one most of us know. It provided a look into the troubled life of the Beach Boy genius. For me, since I had some touch with the music business, it was worth seeing but for others it may be either troubling or too depressing. I thought it depicted the life of Brian Wilson and his story accurately. I recommend it to those who loved his music.

About the genius Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, does anymore need to be said. Great music soundtrack. The movie can be a little sad but good and love (definitely not Mike) triumph in the end. The two actors portraying Brian do excellent work. The movie very effectively jumps back and forth between two stages in his life. Very highly recommended, especially for music fans.

I enjoy biographies and this one is an eye opener. It tells the amazing shocking truth about Brian Wilson from his standpoint. I know I was surprised. The actor portraying Brian actually resembles him and does a good job and I think the reenactments are done well. The main focus is on Brian which of course this includes the group but not so much.

...if more movies were this good! I was skeptical when I heard about the movie, two actors playing the main character at different points in his life...but WOW! Cusack and Dano are amazing in this creative telling of major moments in the life of Brian Wilson. Even if you're not a Beach Boys fan you'll love the movie and how the music is intertwined.

One of the best biopics I have ever viewed. An amazing way of telling the story of Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys. The cast is phenomenal, the story is heartwarming and told in an extremely fantastic way. A must see for any fan of The Beach Boys.

Cusack seems to really put his experience into this biopic of Brian Wilson. Brian himself went through many traumatic experiences in his lifetime. Yet he is about to start on another World Tour by himself without the full beach Boys group. His music is enticing and very memorable.

Really a good movie about an amazing persons life. Really helps you realize how important and amazing the beach boys music really is. Kind of sad too how people use other people and take advantage of them. But a really good movie!

DVD "LOVE AND MERCY" is a very good movie with excellent performances by all actors. Love the look. And recreates the 60s perfectly. Dano and cusack are great as Wilson. And at Best Buy, great price as usual, inexpensive. Always shop at Best Buy. Because you do get a BEST BUY!

Having grown up listening to the Beach Boys, I was eye opening to see the issues behind the scenes for them and where the inspiration for the songs came from. I would have preferred one actor to play Brian Wilson - I found having 3 different people playing him was confusing.

Wonder what makes the Brian Wilson tick-or where the great music enjoyed by millions all over the world for near a half century comes from? Watch this and it explains a lot. If you just like bio-pics and are not necessarily a big Beach Boys Fan, you'll still enjoy it.

We saw this on a rental, and had to buy it - it's that good. A must see for anyone interested in the creative process, regardless of the artist. The pacing is a little off, but the performances are powerful, and we came away with a great appreciation for the music.

One of the BEST I've seen in a LONG TIME....Great Story...Well Told...Great Acting...Great Music....IF you love Music...especially of the 60's and have wondered what happened to Brian Wilson you MUST Watch and ENJOY this Great Movie...and Great Extra Features TOO!!!

Good movie. Acting was top notch and told a lot about Brian Wilson. I liked the way they had two different actors portraying Brian at different points of his life Wish they had a little bit more about the beginning of he beach boys

Being a Beach Boys fan and growing up with the rise of this great group. I was fairly familiar with what the contents were. I rather enjoyed the characterizations of John Cusack as Brian Wilson in his mature years. Great Acting, as always

A very nice story about Brian Wilson and his struggles. I have been a Beach Boys fan a long time but was unaware of the inside story. Was hard to find in theaters so Ipicked up the DVDs.
