Customers are enthusiastic about the Home 2TB Photo and Video Manager's large storage capacity, ease of use, and the ability to display photos. Many appreciate its simple setup and the convenience of consolidating photos and videos from multiple devices into one location. The attractive design is also a plus for some users. However, some customers note that the initial backup process can be slow, particularly for large collections of files.

It was a gift for my mom, she tested it for a few days and we ended up returning it. My mom didn't find a good use for it.

Three main complaints. First, it takes ALL photos and videos, meaning even those photos and video that only adults should see. It needs some option to allow it to scan photos and videos to see if they're adult in nature and give you a preview screen so you can remove them all quickly. The technology exists, computers can distinguish between a birthday party and a birthday suit. Second, 2 terabyte isn't much now days. 1 hour of HD video is about 6 gigabytes, 1 hour of 4k is about 42gb. 2 tb will only hold 48 hours of 4k video. I know we don't all have 4k video recorders today but we will eventually and this is a video backup device so it needs to be ready for that day in the near future. Lyve really need a USB 3.0 port for extra storage. Third, what kind of wifi is it using? This is a backup device, so it needs to last awhile, meaning it needs the latest technology so it's still usable in 5-10 years. It just says "wifi", doesn't say if it's 802.11n or 802.11ac. Really needs 802.11ac so it provides the fastest transfer today and years from now. I would recommend waiting for these issues to be fixed in the next version of Lyve.

For the person who loves tech-things and just wants to add another little gadget to their automated home initiative! It's so interesting how it can recognize other devices so that it can automatically upload your pictures and save it here while also working as a interesting conversation started of a picture frame! I plugged it in the night I purchased it and it got to work immediately uploading pictures from my phone. My only qualm is that the phone can't be locked while uploading so you have to put it in a mode to keep it from going to sleep. Otherwise it's a pretty cool device where I can pull up my pictures from elsewhere. I hope more updates are going to be released because I am sure there is more this little guy can do.

I used a Seagate disk before but it is small for my number of photos, that is why I bought it but I am really dissapointed, I loaded all my photos, almost 180 thousand, and after 3 weeks they are not really arranged and I can not see all of them on the laptop or phone, that drives me crazy. If you have a lot of photos please do not use this to arrange them. Imagine what can happen when I load my videos, months or years to arrange them...

Has a long way to go

To begin, the specs list warranty as "not applicable". That alone should tell everyone to stay away. Beyond that, USB 3.0 has be out far too long for any new product to not be using it. For a long term storage device to save all my video and photos, 3TB is too small. Both video and photo resolution keep going up creating larger and larger files. I remember when 3GB was considered to be a huge amount of storage, now most games are bigger than that. Finally, I have some videos that I don't want openly displayed on any device in my house or available to any hacker out in the street, I see no protection for protecting my material on Lyve except to make sure it never gets to the unit, Guess that means some things must remain in cardboard boxes. This is not really a "photo album for the digital age." Maybe the gen 2 device will get closer.
