Mrs. White is an English widow. She is also an antiques specialist. Her husband is murdered during an antiques buying expedition to the south of France. He leaves her an antique, jewel, mountainous debts, a cottage in France safe from English tax collectors, and a second wife also in France. The cottage in France is in a small town considered an antiques epicenter for France. The antique jewel disappears after the murder. Mrs. White moves to the cottage in France and begins hunting for the jewel. This is the background underlying six episodes, each with a crime involving some sort of antique. Some of the crimes are murders. In common with the best of English productions, the details feel right. The village looks and feels like the south of France. (Despite the show actually being filmed in Malta.) Characters are well developed and believable as varieties of ex-pat Brits and local natives. Extreme care was taken to get antiques and information about antiques correct. (The included specials make that very clear.) Despite how well all of this was done by the authors, the actual mysteries are not as engaging. I correctly guessed the criminal early in each episode. I correctly guessed the husband’s murderer in the second episode, but had to wait until episode 6 for confirmation. There is not as much mystery as these shows need to match the care and attention to detail paid everything else. Hopefully that will change. There is enough promise elsewhere to warrant a second series.

Excellent new show with murder, mystery, treasures, making new friends, and helping the local police with authenticating antiques. Hope there will be more shows in the series. Highly recommend.
