The classic tragic romance of Madame Bovary, told in a way destined to make younger viewers feel pity for the main character, while making older viewers want to dopeslap her. Simply put, living beyond one's means carries a risk and penalty beyond the ability to set right. Couple that with bad libidinal impulse control and voila!

An interesting take on a classic novel that rocked early 20th century society.

This movie OK. This movie is about a young woman who marries a doctor. Emma Bovary is not happy in her marriage, she has affairs with other men. She also lives beyond her means, with clothes and furniture that they cannot afford.

A great tale about French society and the roles of women of the past. The cliff hanger at the end makes for excellent discussion and interpretation.

Period piece about a woman who marries a boring doctor and moves to the country. She is not happy with her life and he is to focused on his practice to notice. She begins having affairs and gets involved with a merchant (who is much smarter than she thinks she is) trying to buy things to fill a very large emotional void. The costumes and scenery are amazing. Music very haunting. There is not a lot of dialog in this movie it is very "artsy." Love scenes not long enough for you to even invest in the characters, of which you won't like any. But a good movie to watch that will hopefully get people to want to crack open some classical literature.
