The game is OK, I have come to have very low expectations for Madden over the years and they seem to just barely meet them most years. The game could be so much more if there was some legitimate competition for an NFL game, but sadly there is not, so EA continues to do the minimum.

Great for just a new Madden

This new Madden is great, far better than last year's 25 which was really just ported to the new systems. You already know what you are getting when you are buying Madden so not much needs to be said outside of a few updates and changes to the overall package. 1) The defensive side of things is overhauled and the tutorials are great to help you get acquainted with the changed, 2) They have included a ton of new challenges and things to do, 3) Only negative is that the menu systems could still use some updates as they are still somewhat difficult and unintuitive like years past.

Jaw-dropping graphics, but terrible gameplay

This is a very long review, hope you stick around, but in short:
The graphics are jaw-dropping, but running the ball is annoyingly hard, you under-throw every long ball, but defense is for once, fun to play.
My Background playing Madden - I started with Madden '04, skipped around a few years, but picked back up with Madden 10. Since then Madden 25 has been probably been my favorite but It would have been better with regular season mode. I normally play on pro or all pro on 5 minute quarters, I like playing offense but hate defense. I really disliked Madden 15 because it took away the "God-like" control of the entire game (game sliders, variance in difficulty, easy running/offense control, trading players in season mode, etc.) but rather put emphasis on 3 things - Graphics, defense, and, worst of all, Ultimate Team. Ultimate Team is in my opinion, EA's attempt in micro-transactions and penny pinching the innocent players of madden. ---
I bought Madden 15 the day it came out and I'm still the first of my friends to play it (so no bias of their feelings/ reviews reflect on me). I was blown away by how impressive the graphics improved just over 1 year, it truly shows off the "next-gen" title. However, I started off with a simple game on rookie difficulty which I normally win with a crazy score like 90-3. Using 6 minute quarters, I only won 42-24. I was playing the sorry Titans and using the Patriots who were an 87 rating. The game was very frustrating and made me want to quit every 2 minutes. I'll normally spend about 45 seconds on offense before I score, and about a minute and a half before they punt or throw an interception, plus I NEVER punt - I'll go for it on 4th and 30 on my own 20 yard line before I punt, but on Madden 15 I had to punt almost every other possession for a few reasons:
- running the ball is aggravating and impossible. In every other Madden game, if you made a sharp cut (just pressing the stick to the left) you could almost always juke out at least 1 defender and keep the same speed and momentum you started with. On Madden 15, if you try changing direction by even 30 degrees, your player will come to almost a dead stop, chop their feet, and get tackled. I tested with most all star running backs (Adrian Peterson, Marshawn Lynch, Jamaal Charles, Lesean Mccoy, and Chris Johnson) and even Lesean Mccoy who's known for his elusiveness could only make it about 6 yards at best without contact, while on other Maddens I could go around 10 yards just making cuts and juking them out. Rookie mode gives you a little help with someone like AP or Marshawn Lynch who can break tackles, but otherwise you just can't make it for more than 10 yards without cranking the sliders all the way to 100, which I always keep at 50 or whatever the default is, except for the Minimum Speed Threshold which I crank all the way down. Even when I do break free, I get chased down by a linebacker no matter who I use. A lot of positive reviews say "it's more realistic" but frankly, It. Just. Stinks.
- passing is still pretty much the same on this game, other than on defense, but the only problem is that when throwing deep (best used on those 4th and 30 situations) you will under-throw the ball every single time.
- Defense, for a change, is actually fun on this game. I've always played linebacker or d-line, but always had trouble getting past the o-line until the new controls on this game. Even better is the new defensive camera angle. Jumping the snap and having a chance to sack the quaterback makes the defense much more fun. There a couple of annoyances though: EA made a claim that passing accuracy is more true to the passer's stats, but awful quaterbacks like Johnny Manziel and Geno Smith who have around 75 overall ratings, can go 30/35 300 yards and 4 touchdowns with no problems on rookie difficulty. No matter what defensive scheme I used, completing a 10 yard pass was no problem even with the Seahawk's defense draped all over.
- One of the worst parts is the game modes other than quick play. When I want to play for about 20-30 minutes I can enjoy a quick game, or if I want to play for multiple hours I can get really into my team on season mode. Madden 25 was a little dissapointing with connected franchise rather than the regular season mode, but it's ok as a sort of test run, but I didn't hear many people saying they enjoyed it, so why not change? plus, no one really seemed to enjoy Ultimate team that much either... so that brings me to my main concern, If people didn't like connected franchise over the regular season mode why not at least add the regular season mode along with coach, player, or owner..... And mainly, Why put ALL the emphasis on Ultimate Team? IT'S AWFUL. I can understand if you're willing to spend a hundred bucks on coins so you can get good cards, but otherwise, it takes days of playing time to get even a couple of decent players. Without spending buckoo bucks, you'll get blown out of the water with your sub-par bronze card players.
- play-calling was easy and simple with the gameflow option since Madden 11, but the new 3-option "gameflow" takes up 60% of the screen and gives stupid community recommendations that are awful. Also the verticle layout of the quick play calling and the manual play calling makes it twice as difficult to find the play you want and for some reason (may just be me) makes it harder to tell which option is A,Y, or X.
- I know a lot of people would call this version a lot more realistic and life-like than previous years, but If I wanted life-like, I would go and play actual football or watch from the stands, I enjoyed Madden because I felt like I had complete control of the game, but in this game it's like the game controls the way you play. I personally like being able to throw 80 yard bombs or juke out all 11 people and run for the touchdown (which i could do on pro), but on simple rookie mode, I can't make it further than 20 yards in one play, which in my mind is annoying and takes out the fun in the game. Even the sliders are less customizable, on Madden 25 changing a slider from 50-65 would make a drastic difference in game play, but to get even a 50-60 effect you have to crank the slider all the way to 100, even then it doesn't make that great of a difference. I'm only giving the game 2 out of 5 stars because I felt like I had no control in the game. I would only give it 1 star but the graphics alone wanted to make me give it 3 stars, unfortunately the gameplay made me want to break the disc and throw my controller through the tv. Hopefully EA brings back season mode and brings back the classic Madden controls and feel to the game, otherwise, my money will go to better games.
