Missing a Part

I bought this back up camera because it was compatible with my new Magellan 6230LM GPS, as per the Magellan website. I had it professionlally installed per the instructions but the camera would not display on the GPS. I tried to trouble shoot the issue myself but couldn't get it to work, but did figure out that there was probably an adapter cable missing from the box. The in-store Best Buy associates could/would not help troubleshoot the issue an kept referring me to different departments. I was getting ready to return it to Best Buy but decided to call Magellan for help. Magellan said there was a missing adapter cable for the camera receiver to GPS, which they sent me for free. I recommend the product, but not Best Buy.

It converts my Magellen GPS to a rear backup Camera View when I put my auto into reverse. It's listed as wireless but the installation instructions tell you to wire a transmitter from the back license plate camera to the backup lights hot wire. It then sends a wireless signal to the receiver which you plug into your GPS..

Paired this set with Magellan RoadMate 5265T-LMB the 5" GPS unit. Chose 5" because A) Thats enough size for my wife's Odyssey B) I felt the 7" screen was way too big.
I have read reviews that claim that the installation guide is not good enough or not comprehensive.. so on and so forth. Fact of the matter is, if you are a little hands-on person with automobiles and know how to delicately work with plastic as much as with electricals, this installation is a breeze. It only took one hour for me and the camera came on first shot.
I have also heard that if you have a GPS & backup camera in one unit, the GPS unit takes time to boot up and then show the image from camera. Answer is yes, but thats quick enough that, by the time you crank your engine, get into seatbelt and shift to reverse its about 2 - 3 secs more wait to see the picture. So again its not great, but definitely not bad at all.
The image is good enough at 640K, but could have been better, what I really miss is that the camera doesn't have infrared built in. At night time, If there are no cars or reflective objects behind your car, you could hardly see anything. Its a stretch.
But my goal was to have just one unit for both GPS & backup camera, and it served that purpose quite well. I hope Magellan notes these and does make modifications to the camera as such.

Not happy with this product at all

I have a 2010 2500 Silverado and I bought this product along with the Magellan - RoadMate 9250T-LMB GPS to act as a monitor because it was huge at 7 inches, also it was a better GPS. Both were compatible wireless with each other. It was a super easy install but when I put the truck in reverse the camera switched over but not only does it lag but it switched from the camera to the GPS maps and kept doing this. If you take one thing from this review take this, go wired, always!

The wireless picture was OK during the daytime but when needed in the dark, hey what happened?? You can only see a very short distance because of lack of light. The backup light and brake lites had to be on to see anything at all, and then for only a few feet behind the car. You could easily back into a mailbox because the camera does not pick up low light conditions. If you think this will be similar to the backup cameras you have seen in the new cars, you will be very disappointed. I would suggest you look for something else unless you only drive in daylight.
