So the magic jack does work as promised, we almost never use our landlines anymore anyway so it is definitely a cheaper alternative to a landline. The only drawback is that it did.not allow us to keep our old telephone number when we switched which is good because our old number was mixed up with some woman who never paid her bills but bad for us as we now need to learn a whole new telephone number.

I bought this product after spending a year with costly COMCAST voice package. This device is real easy to setup. You can port in your old number but that comes with a cost. But you can always find a local number. The device says WiFi on it but it's not still compatible with WiFi so you have to plug ethernet cable into the device else it will not work. As this is a VoIP phone, so call quality largely depends upon the internet you have. However, with a very good internet service at my home, occasionally the call quality is bad. But that happens once in a blue moon.

    Best Alternative to Landline

My Mom is 84 and refuses to use cell phones in her house. Her hearing loss makes it hard for her and she prefers old fashioned land line type handset phones/answering machines. She was paying $35 a month for her service. With Magicjack, she now has the service for $99 for 5 years. It worked so great for her and is so cheap that we even went back to having a wireless land line phone system in our house and found it to be very convenient. There have been many issues expressed stating that Magicjack can sometimes cause problems with your PC audio system. However you can eliminate all of these by simply connecting Magicjack directly to your router or modem and not directly to your PC. Its been working great for us - no problems! The only downside (I can think of) that some folks might have is the lack of free 911 service in some remote areas. This has has not been an issue for us but the 911 service validation process indicates to me that the service may not be available in all areas. I would recommend Majicjack to all who have home internet service and also want a conventional land line type phone system in their home.

The IP phone jack is a good product. Set up is easy and the price is great. Just keep in mind that you do need to power it down every once in a while to keep it working properly.

This is my third Magic Jack since it was first introduced. There have been some improvments over the years which make it more reliable. However because it is on 24/7 and has no cooling fan or heat sink it eventually burns out. The latest one I installed has a lifetime replacement as long as you pre- purchase a certain level of service. Bottom line it costs about the same as two months regular phone service for a year.

This was easy to connect. The existing numbers were polled in 48 hours. Messages are emailed to me so I can respond immediateley back when necessary. It is a large savings monthly than using Qwest or Verizon.

We were a little cautious when first considering the Magic Jack, but were trying to cut down on costs. We didn't use our home line for anything but the alarm system and faxes for my husband's business. So we decided to make the switch and that was the best decision we could have made. Magic Jack was just what our family needed and it works perfectly. I would recommend it to any of my friends and family.

After a very extensive researchs by reading all the REVIEWs from all the buyers of this product then I decided to try it myself... and---WALLAAAA!---its one of the greatest invention since wheel was introduced in the world(just kiddin' but it is close)!!! It literally REPLACED my landline phone while rewarding me a big-big SAVINGs in my phone monthly budget!!!... Touch tone operation like calling a bank/credit card company and prompt you to key in a number may not work to newer phones but it definitely works with older models... HINT: Be sure that you have a good to excellent internet connection in order to optimize the outcome features of this great-great product... I signed in for 5-years service and if the government regulations will not "sabotage" the life of Magicjack business then I may renew it again to another 5 years...

I have experienced better clarity and less dropped calls with the MJ+, I just wish the occasional omission of audio could be resolved. I have steady 10+ mps internet and feel there is still room for improvement.

I love everything about this device, it works great. I love the price, which makes having a phone line at home very affordable especially nowadays that cell phones are the main phone used, which makes many people consider not having a home line. Now you can have one without having to pay a monthly phone bill. The one down-side to this is that you can't call prepaid numbers with MagicJack unless you purchase credit to do so. I mainly use this device for people visiting, and at times these same people have to call their homes with calling cards (which at times happen to be outside the USofA), and unless there's a 1-800 number on the card they are not able to call the prepaid numbers even if these are local numbers.

Easy installation and easily meets my expectations, great performance and overall a good value for your money. I will surely recommend to a friend who might need it. A very practical electronic device that could save a lot of bills to pay when your using telephone contract services.

Once we were able to install it works satisfactorily; but it needs better instructions for "set-up". People who call us complain sometimes that the sound quality is "tinny" and there is some echoing. You can't beat the price!

Set up was so easy that anyone who isnot tech savvy will have no problem. You plug it and open free account with Magic Jack and your set to go. Free service for half a year. You can transfer your old number with a wait of 5 to 10 days to transfer completely, which means don't immediately cancel your current service provider. Once the 6 months are up they have plans like $36 for like 6 months if I'm not mistaken. They charge you the whole amount on the spot so no monthly billing which is always a plus.

The Magic Jack device concept is great, but it really falls down on tech support. Tech support is overseas despite what the company says and is by on-line chat only and is not 24/7. There is no live phone support whatsover!!! You are in trouble if the techie has to deviate from the script. They have a bad habit of switching you to another techie without asking or giving you a chance to object. If you are switched, you have to explain the problem all over again to the new techie. Use Magic Jack at your peril!!!
