Great for dubbing vcr tapes to cds

Manual is poor. It is easy to operate after setup. Getting good results in dubbing vcr tapes that are 20 years old.

I purchased this and set it up per instructions.
Problem is with trying to use the timer for recording. After setting-up the start/stop times, media (vcr or dvd), then "timer set", it never records anything. All I get is the red clock icon and either the dvd or vcr icon flashing. No recording.
In addition, once you set the timer, the unit is "locked" and you cannot access anything until the "stop" time has expired.
I've went through the process multiple times and always the same result.

Good so far.

I was concerned a refurbished piece of equipment even at a great price would not work correctly. So far, no problems. The owners manual was not original but a Xeroxed copy stapled together. Better than no manual. The machine came with almost everything needed to make it work. I had to come up with another cable but that was a small matter. I had an extra. My wife recorded Dancing with the Stars and the last episode of American Idol on DVD with great results.

BURN VHS TO DVD
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Instructions are not clear, after a few hours of trying to understand them, I got a neighbor who is a lot more computer savy than myself to see if he could help, but neither of us could get it to record a single disk. I kept it just to show my old VHS tapes, as my original VHS player is old and almost worn out. So unless you want a challange to see if you can get it working, I suggest you purchase a new one, or another brand of VHS to DVD machine.

I Suppose It Will Eventually Work

Everything is plugged in where the diagrams indicate, but I can't get any menu to appear. I can see from the ticker that the DVD is trying to play, but the TV hasn't a clue. Time to call the HELP number given in the booklet, if it's still "live" for a factory-reconditioned item.

Great dvd/vcr combo

After my first dvd/vcr combo stopped working, I needed ot get a new one. I checked a whole bunch of stores and they didn't have the one I was specifically looking for until I looked on Best Buy. They had the exact type of dvd/vcr combo I was looking for. To be honest, I was a little worried about the quality because it was refurbished but that was a chance I had to take and I took it. Once I brought it home, it was a breeze to hook it up. The quality is excellent no blurry vision or anything like that. i havent had the opportunity to record on a dvd but i will soon. The good about this is that it comes with a HD upconversion so it can connect to a HD TV. I would definitely recommend this to people who have Vhs tapes that they don't want to get rid of.

Was looking for a good bargain on a device to copy my VHS home movies to DVD, and was attracted by the really low price (and good reviews) on this product. Set it up in under an hour, and was not disappointed! Easy to use, great quality thus far! Definitely recommend. Copying just a few movies pays fot itself compared to paying someone to convert VHS to DVD for you!

Aside from the unit not arriving on schedule .There were many issues starting with the manual which wasnt very clear about some basic proceedures . I called best buy support and since they dont carry this model I was referred to call magnavox and they were helpful in assisting me with setup. The footage that is recorded onto the vcr looks absolutely horrible you can take the cleanest dvd and record to the vcr and it looks like a 10 yr old oxidized tape complete with the wavy rainbow looking lines in the center and a pinkish hue on each corner .I was told by both companies that the unit could have been on a shelf for 2 yrs and and may have accumulated dust and was told to get a head cleaner so I got the best head cleaner I could find a $22.00 one and no change whatsoever .Records well when you use another dvd to record dvd to dvd .

Manuals and cables in order
Very clean, hardly could tell it was used.
Worked immediately
Copied VHS to DVD a piece of cake.
NOTE: Do not look to "Recording VHS to DVD" you'll neve find it.

Love this unit

Have copied 63 VHS tapes to DVD without a problem. Setup and ease of use is a big plus for this unit. I just want to point out that a user must finalize the DVD before it will play on other DVD players. The other point I would like to point out is this unit does not have the typical TV cable connections you would find on older VCR players. Overall I am very pleased with this unit and how well it works.

Okay if you have cable or satellite

I wanted a combo vcr/dvd and thought this would fit the bill. It was referbished but that was not a problem when dealing with Best Buy. However, I am a hold-out from the satellite companies and I still believe in free TV. There is no way to hook the antenna up to this unit. Except for that it worked fine with an excellent picture in HDMI format.

I was disappointed when I realized that it did not have a tuner which meant I could not record TV shows directly.

The VHS side of the devise never recorded anything but black lines. I have bought other refirbished items and have been happy, but this was very disapponting. I will never buy a refirbished item from Best Buy again. Now - will they take it back?

GOOD DVD COPIER

I LIKE THIS DVD COPIER ESPECIALLY THE VHS DUBBING ABILITY. I JUST WISH IT HAD A TUNER AND WAS NOT TO EXPENSIVE. I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG IT WILL LAST BUT WITH MY EXPERIENCE I NOTICED THAT THE EXPENSIVE DVD BURNERS DON'T LAST THAT LONG. OVERALL ITS OKAY.

Difficult to use

I have used another DVD recorder that was very simple to use. To use this one, I had to read the instructions several times and have ruined a few DVDs in the process. It was a good price but I have spent the difference in time. I just wanted to transfer old home movies to DVD to preserve them but it has turned into a time consuming and frustrating project. I'm fairly tech saavy so I don't think that the issues are user-error. I would recommend trying a different brand.
