I was hesitant to watch this movie, at first, but I'm a big fan of Cagney's catalog, so I decided to give it a shot. It's a beautiful movie that serves as a tribute to Lon Chaney and a display for the great talents of James Cagney, Dorothy Malone, and Jane Greer. The Blu-ray is fantastic. Arrow did a wonderful job with the restoration. For a late 50's film from Universal-International, it look like it was shot yesterday. Audio is great. I haven't delved into the special features yet, so I cannot say anything about them. The Blu-ray also features a reversible cover that shows one of the original theatrical posters. Like all bipocis, there's some fiction with the fact, but looking at it as a film, that doesn't matter. There's many books and documents that tell the complete truth. There's only a few things that have been altered. Fans of Cagney, old Hollywood, and good movies, I highly recommend.

I have long admired the work of Lon Chaney, and had only recently become aware of this movie. As I also liked James Cagney, seeing him in the title role gave me an added bonus for this movie. It was certainly a worthwhile endeavor to watch it, and I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Chaney or Cagney.

Excellent movie. I don't know how true to life it is but either way it's a wonderful story about a classic actor. I wish I was able to see all of Lon Chaney's films, but alas most are lost in time.

Was surprised at how good Cagney did in a drama. Big fan of Dorothy Malone (different role for her). If you want to learn how some of these horror movies happened before "special effects", excellent movie.
