Best Actor
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Casey Affleck received a much deserved Oscar as Best Actor for this movie. Also, impressed with Lucas Hedges and his much deserved nomination as Best Supporting Actor. Michelle Williams has one really great scene for her nomination as Best Supporting Actress.

A masterpiece!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I always admired Kenneth Lonergan's work, this is his best so far.A very sad film of reality, family tragedy, survival, forgiveness and redemption. If you are expecting car chases and action this is not for you. Casey Affleck well deserved his Oscar.Watching his face emote in scenes without audio,I understood all his feelings and emotions written on his face.Michelle William's perfomance is a knockout! A modern movie masterpiece!

Good movie but
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a rather slow moving but incredibly well acted film. I find it hard to remember a film in which I disliked the character of the male lead as much as this one. Casey Affleck does a great job but the initial choice, Matt Damon, would have been better.

AFFLECK SHINES BRIGHT!!!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although this is a painfull movie to watch, it is a stunning film. It has its moments of laughter, but deep down this is a heartbreaking story! Michell williams is wonderfull in this, and the new kid - LUCAS HEDGES - is outstanding! Watch for him in coming films for sure! BUT - Casey Affleck is just stunning! Im thrilled he won the oscar for this role! CUDOS to Matt Damon for producing this film, the first from AMAZON STUDIOS! A+

A meditation on deep emotional misery
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lee (Casey Affleck) is in as sad an emotional state as one can be and still function at all. While in this dark state, Lee becomes responsible for his 16 year old nephew, when Lee is barely responsible for himself. For the movie viewer, seeing someone dealing with profound sadness isn't escapist entertainment, but it is a worthwhile insight. Fans of classical music will enjoy its abundance in the sound track.

Great character building
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a character driven movie, that focuses on how people deal with different emotions. The first half of the movie you come to question the way the protagonist is and how he interacts with people then about 25 min. in you understand what has happened and makes you realize what happened and how he is broken from it. It's a great pretrial of human emotion and how everyone deals with death differently.

Pretty good movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is not a typical or predictable movie. It gives you a sense of the characters' culture, as well as background on how the characters developed into who they are. It's real, raw, and honest. Overall I find it to be a pretty good movie.

A moving, heartbreaking masterpiece
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Manchester by the Sea is one of those rare mastertpieces of cinema. The suffering of loss can impact lives eternally, as depicted in this film. Casey Affleck's Oscar winning performance was truly deserved. Michelle Williams heartbreaking portrayal was also noteworthy. We need to be reminded that human suffering is a part of the human condition, and this film reminds us with emotionally-charged impact.

I laughed alot?
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So the movie was very very touching in alot of parts. Casey Affleck plays Lee very well and definitely makes you feel for him and what he is going through. Aside from all of the drama that is very moving and sad, it is broken up with ALOT of comedy. The discussions that Lee has with his nephew are priceless. But after all of it you kinda are just hit with the black screen for the end of the movie.

One of my Favorite Movies of All Time
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie is a hard one to watch. It's sad and depressing but it's also beyond powerful. When I watched this movie with my wife, we couldn't take our eyes off the screen. Casey Affleck is fantastic, the best I have ever seen him. Everyone else is also masterful. I just can't recommend this movie enough... but be ready... You're in for a brutally fantastic treat.

Very moving and heartfelt
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie showcased Casey Affleck. It was a moving story of family. It showed that you don't have to be the biological father to raise a child. It brought to light the real challenges of parenthood and family dynamics.

A great job directing Matt Damon!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Matt Damon did a great job capturing the human emotions. Also beautiful scenery captured in the film. I really like the strong performance Casey Affleck gives. I was crying thru out most of the film. I really can't say much without giving up the main idea. This is a deeply moving film. I really felt the pain (& other emotions) each character had or carried. An all around great film.

Real life is not always Happy!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Manchester by the Sea, written and directed by Kenneth Lonergan, is not your typical Hollywood "happily ever after" movie. It deals with complex family issues involving tragedy, regret, loyalty, and self-examination. The movie has outstanding well-deserved Oscar nominated performances by Casey Affleck, Lucas Hedges, and Michelle Williams. The DVD is definitely worth owning.

An emotional wall that stops you in its tracks
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The performances are front and center in this film, and while they are toned down to point where it looks lazy there is depth to the characters that don't make themselves apparent until the start of the final act of the film. This movie is not for everyone, some will find it boring, others enthralling, just know that you'll see a movie that's all dialogue.

A decent movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The movie was decent, it wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen and it definitely wasn't the best. I don't think he deserved the Oscar compared to what he was up against but the movie itself was worth seeing.

High expectations
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had high expectations and was a little disappointed. The performances are great, it's moving, but it's probably 15-20 minutes to long in my opinion. Still highly recommend, but temper your expectations.

Powerful and Moving Filmmaking
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Manchester by the Sea was my number 1 film of 2016 for a plethora of reasons. The acting is top-notch across the board, and it is one of the most emotionally devastating yet emotionally moving films I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Affleck and Lonergan were well deserving of their Oscars and I would have liked to see this win best picture.

Pretty good.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie got a ton of buzz last year, but I missed it in the theaters. I enjoyed it, but think I might have enjoyed it even more if there hadn't heard so much buzz about it before seeing it.

Overall good movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I think Casey did a great job but for a movie about grief and loss, I didn't cry at all (and I'm a MAJOR weeper). I also didn't like the way it ended, but I'm not going to spoil it for anyone...
