new this monopod is sturdy to hold 8lbs set ,, i would recommend to people to get as big possible you can afford ,, that if you get new heavier eqpt you won't have to get a better mono ... ,, also having one that is taller than you allow you to steady for those high shots too , i use the Manfrotto 234RC ,, keep the mono against your body and you can point real high up more steady ,, like at airshows .,, and my last tip is that a more heavy duty one will have stronger clasp that over time-use it will still be able to hold and not lose grip to not hold you setup ...

Not being able to see with my hands first before purchase ,, I am happy that it is nice and solid to hold my 8 lbs setup ,, the clamps are fast to adjust as compare to screw type ,, which is my current old one ... I recommend that you always get one that more than you need because if you upgrade to bigger heavier hardware,, you don't have to upgrade you mono ...i use the mono all the time, and even more happier that i have a backup too now ..

i got this when my setup was about 7 lbs ,, and this gave me confidence to use .. now i have close to 15 lbs ,, and this is still strong enough to work ... i now have a carbon fiber one too ,, but this manfrotto is just as good ,,, the quick snaps are better than having the twist locks that you can quickly change length ,, great for airshows .. my recommendations to you is 1)get one that will be more than enough for your current eqpt weight , it will last longer ,, and not wear out ... 2) get a taller one so you can point up if needed ... 3) on all my mono , i have the manfrotto swivel head ,, not a ball head ...
