I replaced my Marantz AV 7701 that was approaching its 5th birthday with this modern and updated AV 7704. I am overjoyed with my purchase. It’s the best processor I’ve used or owned in the last 20 years of being an audiophile in any price range under 5k. I use it to run a Mcintosh MC-452 stereo amp along with very large Mcintosh LS-360 full range stereo tower speakers and a large SVS PB13-Ultra sub.The 7701 was amazing, but the 7704 is superior as far as sound quality and all around features and options. Setup was a breeze for anyone including a novice. I consider myself an expert when it comes to audio/video equipment setup and use. I was really thinking about spending 6k on a Mcintosh MX-122, but didn’t want to spend almost 3 times as much for a processor that isn’t much better. If the Mcintosh is a 10/10, then the Marantz is a 9/10. If money was no object, I would have bought the Mcintosh just to match it with my amp, speakers, and to show off a bit. But, when is it worth spending 3 times the price for almost the same sound quality and features? Never in my opinion unless your rich and have nothing better to do with your hard earned cash. Marantz also makes great amps and receivers as well. But, I always prefer a Mcintosh amp over any other brand. I compared both the Mcintosh MX-122 and the Marantz AV 7704 hooked up to a modern Mcintosh multi channel amp at a large high end audio/video store in NY. I couldn’t tell any difference in the sound quality. The Mcintosh does look better to me because of the design and because I’m partial to anything Mcintosh. I’ve also been a huge Mcintosh amp fan for 20+ years. But the Marantz looks great and it blends in with my Mcintosh gear very well. No matter what speakers or amp you own, this Marantz AV 7704 will not dissapoint you at all. So far after owning and using this unit daily for 2 months, there are no negatives or issues to mention. I am in love with it. Just try it for yourself and you won’t be dissapointed. If your not happy with it, you can always return it to Best Buy. I highly doubt anyone that spends 2k on a high end processor would ever be dissapointed in the unit. Don’t take my word for it, do some research online and try it in your home. I researched several brands and auditioned them before my purchase. Again, I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

It has a lot of great features but does not come with a manual and is difficult to be online and trying to connect and set up your theater system at the same time.
