Purchased this Marantz Reciever for my LG Oled 4K 3D TV so that I could enjoy the best quality in picture and sound for this TV. Everything looks good and sounds great. All electronics including gaming, blue ray, TV and cable box runs through it and everything is terrific. Very happy!

What It Lacks In Size It Makes Up For In Power

I have this bi-amped with a MM7025 powering a pair of Bowers & Wilkins 683 S2s. Lets just say this is an awesome setup and I don't think I could be happier. This receiver is very easy to setup and I love the slim profile. This has everything, bluetooth, wifi, 4k the list goes on. Got an awkwardly long wifi password...pair it with your phone and your phone will set it up how cool is that?!? I cannot say enough about this receiver. Setting it up with the MM7025 was a breeze also. I have the MM7025 going to the LF terminals on the 683 S2s and the receiver to the HF ones. This makes for some awesome power and these speakers shine. This setup almost can get away from requiring a sub...almost. I wanted moar so I hooked up my Mirage 10'' sub. If you are on the fence about this receiver because of it's size, go to Best Buy and listen to it...you will be amazed.

Freezes up at least once every 4-5 hours then the only way to get it to work is to unplug it and plug back in. I researched these today and come to find out that that happens often. Also, it says it can hook up to your ipad but mine wont. Keeps saying "pairing unsuccessful" Geek squad is coming out this week to replace so fingers crossed.

This is a great AV Receiver!

So, I recently purchased the Marantz NR1605 for my home theater system. It comes with lots of features, such as 8 HDMI ports to connect multiple devices (TV, cable, Blue-Ray, DVD, etc). In addition, it comes with Wifi, Bluetooth, and ethernet connection. During set up, I found that the less expensive high speed HDMI cables did not work on the HDMI (ARC) port. I was more successful with the expensive HDMI cable (not Monster Cables). I picked up the high speed HDMI at local audio store. In the end, don't use inferior products if your investing in a decent receiver. Once having a functional HDMI cable, set up was pretty easy. This receiver comes with a microphone and and cardboard tripod, so you can position the microphone in 6 different seating locations within the room, while calibrating the speakers to the receiver. The sound is excellent. This is a great AV receiver, for the price range, in comparison to other receivers, in the same price range. It packs a lot of features. I am clearly happy with my choice/purchase.

Tried them all and now happy!

I have tried them all and can honestly say that it is the best receiver I have had to date. I have had Denon, Yamaha, Sony, Sunfire and lastly Pioneer. They all sounded fine but they were HUGE and tough to move in my cabinet and some had just waaaayyyyy too many options while adjusting sound. Just too much. I bought the Marantz 1605 yesterday and it is was installed immediately. Easy to install, easy on screen help, Sounds just as good as my other receivers though the power is rated less. It is loud, clean and SMALL!!!!!!! I am so happy to have a receiver that is easy to get behind in my cabinet now. I know we don't move them around much but, when we do I am no longer dreading it. I think Marantz is onto something with the slim line. It stole my attention and I am thrilled with it!

I had been waffling for the last 2 or 3 months concerning the purchase of a new A/V unit, and missed out on the Marantz 5008. My 2-3 year old, rather expensive Denon (110watts/channel 7.1, 3D upscaler) worked rather well, but my recent switch to cable TV and its 720p signal was driving me insane. My only real choice was getting a new A/V unit with an upscaling function for a better picture, and off I went to shop. For reference, I have a Panasonic GT65 plasma, Polk RM8 fronts, Polk CSI A6 center, Polk TL2 in the rear, Polk PSW 12", and some off brand outdoor speakers for the second zone, a PS4 #also used for my movies#, Apple TV, and do use Pandora and my iPhone for music. My room is roughly 14 x 20 with an angular wall with a fireplace, less than ideal insulation, and a sliding glass door. While I was concerned about the Marantz's power, to my ears, it sounds far superior to my much more powerfully labled Denon post installation. Further, I auditioned the unit in my local Best Buy's Magnolia section, along with the new Yamaha, Pioneer, Denon and Onkyo, and I did cross-shop the new Sony 1050, though I couldn't hear it at any Best Buy I went to. As for the audition, the Marantz sounded far superior on similarly sized speakers as mine #they are all relatively small--but not Bose cube small#, using differing types of sources #CD, DVD, etc#. I say superior in that the sound was clearer, far warmer and enveloping, than that of the other similarly priced units #I was looking to spend between $500 and $900#, and at rather loud volumes, it held its own powerwise #I really think the Marantz is way underrated or the others are way overrated#. I did listen to the level up $1,199 Marantz and it was clearly better than this one, but I was trying not to make my wife cringe any more than what was already going to occur. Back to my own home, this unit has more than enough power for my speakers, had far superior detail and clarity, and sounded far “louder” than my Denon, for about half the price I previously spent. The bass even seemed superior, which may be a crossover/Audyssey function of the speaker set up, but it wasn’t muddy as before—rather, it was crisp and punchy—and it’s set at 50% of the gain. Anyway, set-up was rather easy. It took me awhile to get everything wired up, but I don't move as quickly as I used to. In all, maybe an hour and a half to swap the Denon with the Marantz and go through the set-up. I did not have to download an update as others have mentioned, and I did hardwire the LAN rather than go wireless--just like I did with my PS4. Oh, and a rather nifty feature: the speaker set up process, on screen as others have mentioned, actually told me that my speaker wiring was backwards--nice and easy like with no condescension. Heyoooo...It also automatically adjusted to the room accoustics even after setting up the speakers through the automated mic process. The video upscaling works well, except when viewing commercials on cable's "non HD" channels, where flickering and lines can be all over the images--almost making me sick on my larger display. Of course, the easiest solution is to stay off of those channels or figure out how to change the compression, which leads me to my only gripe. Some of the onscreen menus/buttons on the remote don't let you go back and forth. You enter an area, change the setting and then have to exit out of everything and then rehit the 'options' but again to get into other areas to change--sort of a pain. Further, the actual manual, which the unit doesn't come with, is 275 pages long and isn't structured in a way to easily find minute settings to change #you have to download the .pdf#. And some of the things, like the upscaling function, aren't intuitive: it's assigned to the 'input' source, and not found as part of the 'display' or 'video' tab #I found that in the manual#. Regardless, the picture is fantastic and I cannot gripe, which was my original mission. I do not have a 4k TV nor do I plan to get one until more media is readily available. I did look at the 1080p content being played on a similarly sized 65" 4k TV in the Magnolia room as I auditioned the sound, and I'm sorry, the picture is not better than my plasma--which has been properly calibrated. It simply isn't. And no, I'm not saying that the 4k content doesn't look better on a 4k set than 1080p on my plasma--I don't care what these videophiles say, 4k content on a good 4k set blows my plasma away--to my eyes, my friends' eyes, etc etc etc. Pandora streaming is a FANTASTIC feature, and I feel like I don't even need to hook up my iPhone as much as I used to. That said, I did, as well as my Nexus 7 tablet, and both worked just fine with this unit on the front USB port. Interestingly, this A/V unit also has a separate type upscaler for compressed music files and my digital stuff sounds great. In all, the real test was if my wife could tell a difference--and my mother-in-law. Both noticed a much better sound #you can even increase the center dialogue for those hard of hearing--and it REALLY works--and it makes me even less tolerant of watching CNN#. And both noticed a superior picture quality while watching cable TV content as well. Both also warned me not to tell my father-in-law what I had done, though they admitted that the dialogue function would be perfect for him, though they may want to hang themselves since he watches Fox news 24/7. I have played with a lot of different sound options #tons of Dolby, Neo, etc#, and haven’t really settled on one. I did let it auto select for the first time watching the Jaguars rerun, yesterday’s golf and that horribly fake Sharkweek documentary debacle all yesterday, and all sounded great. I may update this later. Lastly, if you want to make yourself sick, both literally and with laughter, this unit will actually let you stack the advanced picture options on top of those already on your display. You can essentially boost your contrast all the way up on your display, and then boost it all up on the A/V unit. Try it and watch Univision and see what I mean. Quite silly, yet it makes you cheesy sick after about 30 seconds. Obviously, I went back to the custom setting on my plasma and didn’t mess around with this, however, one can easily make a plasma soooo much brighter if you really had a very bright, window filled home #I actually tried this and I’m pretty sure you could get a Kramer-like digital sunburn on an LED display#. If you really need 1,000 watts of power for some huge, inefficient floor standing speakers to make your ears really bleed #it did drive some rather expensive and large Bowers & Wilkins towers in the Magnolia room rather well#, then perhaps you need to spend more money. If you want something that sounds fantastic, and frees up some serious space #it's so much smaller than its big brother and its rivals#, then this is the ticket...

I was between Denon and Marantz. But Marantz is smaller and looks cooler. System setup and sound calibration was extremely easy with interactive manual on receiver (Not like my 8 years old Hi End Denon receiver). I downloaded latest update and no any single problem yet after 2 weeks of using. And of course 3 year manufacture warranty makes sense. I like all features of this Marantz receiver. Denon is cheaper. But I am not disappointed with my new Marantz. Also I got a good deal from Magnolia Sales Rep and was not able to skip it. Please speak with your local Magnolia Sales Rep. and you maybe get yours deal also.

7 years and going, Only regret is the next model had atmos tech capabilities, which at the time I was just hearing about. One of the benefits I had working at Best Buy was the great discounts I had. I didn’t realize I paid this much. I paird a Harmony remote and they continue to be the focal point in the household. Klipsch Subwoofer and bookshelf speakers and some old Sony speakers to complete the 7.1 features is quite ear pleasing family is always telling me to turn down the base. I have the Phillips Bloom smart light that shines to the wall behind the tv and it sinks to the movie and music through the Phillips app. I run my gaming desktop through the receiver for all my gaming and streaming needs. I will eventually upgrade for a atmos system but will still use the system as I have plans for a movie room.

I was shocked how well this receiver works. I have been using a older Harmon Kardon, before they went cheap. I have Definitive Technology front, center, and rear speakers. I have always enjoyed these speakers, but had no idea how great they sound until I hooked up the Marantz. Easy to hook-up and it is so nice to have some extra room. Their is no reason more companies have not tried the smaller profile. Final confirmation: my wife and adult children noticed the better sound. My wife stated the sound is "so rich"....my wife is brillant, but A/V sound and equipment discussions put her to sleep.

Great receiver when it works, but.....

Just returned my first unit and am hoping the second unit is problem free. I won't repeat all of the nice things others have said. The biggest problem is the unit freezes up and locks up when you are switching between inputs (and even merely switching channels through the Comcast receiver). Only option is to pull the plug and reset. Look on the Amazon and Marantz forum threads for more details. There even was a person standing behind me in the Customer Service line who had just bought the same unit that week and told me he was having problems with it. For now, only two stars because of the problem and hassle to replace it. Fingers crossed on number 2. Stay tuned.

Receiver would freeze at random. I had to unplug it and plug it back in for it to work. Next, HDMI 1 crapped out. No signal. Switched to HDMI 2 and all was well for a month or so. Now video is jittery. When I bypass the 1605 it woks fine from the source. First....and LAST Marantz. 3 Year warranty but I will have to pay to ship this thing for service.
