I liked the Marantz with its clean power and multi zone capability with the app to control from my phone. This unit has a lot of features, simple enough for the novis yet complex enough for the more technical type.
The only problem is it overheats and shuts off. Can't crank it. Running B&W towers, woofers etc. Bi-amped or not it overheats and shuts off when cranked to ~85% or more. Actually took the first one back thinking it was defective but the replacement did the same. Even ran 2 20w fans on it and still shutdown when pumped. It's good clean sound but just can't crank it.

The first unit I took home failed out of the box and it was hard to find a replacement at Best Buy. I was able to chase one down at another Best buy on my own. The second unit has been working great. I am very happy with it. The auto set up paid attention to all speakers being in phase as well as setting level, distance and optimizing the frequency bands to my room. The feature set is rich enough that I know that I don't know everything yet. The manual is in digital form so finding what you want to know is easy. Bottom line it sounds great in my difficult room.

I can't say enough good things about the features, design, build quality, and overall awesomeness of a Marantz. This is my 2nd Marantz, and I've never been happier. You can never go wrong with one of these if you are a true audiophile... This is the top brand for top sound. And you'll always get big dollars on a resale so totally worth spending the money on one.

Best AV Receiver I've Owned!

I've always owned separates for their sound quality but opted not to do so when it came to an AV receiver. It does all that is expected of a surround receiver, while still providing the best in analog sound production. I auditioned the receiver using Bruce Babad's album, A Tribute to Paul Desmond. I grew up playing in a band with Bruce and know the sound of his alto sax like I know the sound of my own voice. The Marantz reproduces the natural sounds of Bruce's sax as if he were right there in the room again. You may find better specs, but you won't find better sound at any comparable price.

So purchasing this pre-amp really helped the way I thought an amp would sound. The quality of the sound is excellent both in stereo and surround, hooked up to a Bluray to my Computer for gaming. I added a power amp so the sound doesn't cause any clipping while watching movies etc. I recently had a Sony receiver and upgrading to this made the sound come to life with adding the power amp it took it to the next level. I recommend buying this if you can fork over some $$$

It is a very good detailed receiver. With good speakers makes the sound come out excellent. Only flaw is it gets hot that it over heats. We bought a receiver fan to place on top.

Replaces an older Yamaha RX V 1050 for my exercise room. Using Definitive Technology speakers, music sounded better out of my older generation Yamaha but movies sound much better with this new Marantz. With time, the sound from the Marantz is growing on me. It's very clean at low and high (loud) levels, whereas the older Yamaha sounded the best when the volume was fairly high. In any case, I think the Marantz was a great pick. In fact, I have a newer Yamaha Aventage in my entertainment room and I don't think the newer Yamaha is as clean sounding as the Marantz at low volumes.

I am using this receiver in my bigger home theater and it blows me away how clean and clear movies are. Music sounds great also. I am using all klipsch speakers in a 7.1 configuration and this is the first time I have really heard my speakers shine. My second home theater has a bose lifestyle 5.1 system. Needless to say that theater doesn't get used much anymore after hearing my marantz receiver!

This is an excellent receiver for the money. Had a Denon for about 14 years. I thought it sounded very good until I heard the Marantz. WOW !! The audio and video quality is amazing. Am now in the process of watching all my Blu-Rays over again. Got about 70 movies, so this could take awhile.

Initial setup was fine, but took a bit of toying around to figure out how to get the other speakers in Zones 2 & 3 to work simultaneously.

Being around the home theater hobby for about 20 years I've seen my share of AVRs. I started with Denon. Tried Onkyo briefly. Then, moved to Pioneer Elite for my last two units.
The last one, a non 3D pass through Elite SC-05 with its first generation class D amps was quite nice but the sound to my ears was a bit on the "antiseptic" side compared to previous Pioneer A/B units. Also, there was a "flatness" to the surround effects. Single plane localization of sound effects were precise indeed but there wasn't a lot of depth or dynamics to them.
( I understand the 3rd / 4th gen of these class D amps have improved the overall sound quality experience so I'm just comparing my SC-05 experience. )
The Marantz SR7007 returns me back to the warmer, richer A/B type of sound. Excessive heating is thankfully not an issue even running the unit full tilt for a entire movie. Surround effects are not just precisely localized but now have a body and fullness to them with real dynamics.
For those of us who still spin vinyl the phono stage is quite good with rich harmonics and nice sound staging with good depth. It's not a standalone tube phono preamp but it gets the job done just fine.
Also, this flagship unit has virtually every modern smart phone, I-pod and internet technology you could dream of and more. You also get bleeding edge 4K pass though and up conversion which is starting to leak to the various flagship AVRs even though that technology is a while off for mainstream consumers.
The only thing that would move the rating down to say 4.5 instead 5 of 5 is a confusingly written instruction manual. It has a great "quick setup" menu to hook things up initially. The GUI is very nicely done.
But, digging into the meat of this unit will require a lot of time and/or previous knowledge. This is not a starter AVR for the uninitiated. Just finding how and where to reassign a HDMI input to a non-HDMI digital audio input was a little interesting. And I've done it before without as much digging.
The Audyssey and MultiEQ sound equalization technologies are extremely easy to use and really do tame the room quirks and make the speakers sound their best in my difficult room circumstances.
It is every bit as good or better than the proprietary Pioneer MCACC set up. Of course, you can still tweek the speaker / room set up manually if you want to break out your tape measure and old sound pressure mic!
So, overall, the vast majority of my first experience with a Marantz AVR is quite pleasing. I'll highly recommend this unit to anybody looking for a latest gen AVR for their home theater and general music listening.

After 8 months of searching for a new AV receiver, I opted for the Marantz SR7007 due to its long list of features and the supposed "quality" of Marantz products. The unit was very easy to get up and running while using the on board user setup. Once set up, the SR7007 sounded teriffic. But, the excellent sound was short lived due to the unit failing to operate after one week. I brought the unit back to my local Best Buy, where they tested it. Sure enough, it did not work for them, either. I opted to splurge a bit on this reciever for the quality. But, I was severely let down when it failed after a week. This left a bad taste in my mouth, so I opted for a my money back in leiu of an exchange.
