Amazing Clarity, Phenomenal Performance.

Pros:
This unit is phenomenal. I have this currently paired with a Anthem MCA525 and Tekton Double Impact speakers connected to a C8 77" OLED protected by Panamax M5400-PM. Still need to upgrade subs and 4k players/upstream. Panasonic DP-UB9000 is probably next after the sub. Crystal clear sound up to painful levels without losing any clarity. This preamp is amazing.
The Audyssey room correction comes with a calibrated mic. I had a bass hole in my listening area when I first set this up. After adjusting the speakers several times and not being satisfied, I finally ran the Audyssey calibration and like black magic, ALL the base appeared. But everything is very linear in it's response, it's where it should be, my dad said any more bass would be too much. I like too much so an SVS Ultra-16 might feel that void in my life.
Would buy this again in a heart beat (unless I'm having to buy it again in 3 years cause it dies. Reliability will have to be seen).
Runs warm to a little too warm (for my preference) after long, loud listening session in my closed door cabinet. I honestly don't think it's hot, so I don't really worry at this point. Regular listening this unit runs cool.
Future Upgradable to HDMI 2.1
Con:
It's not necessarily cheap.

I went from the AV7005 to the AV8805 - OMG!

I was just upgrading to get the latest protocols. I was not expecting much of an improvement by way of sound -- but was I astonished when every aspect was better.
I have the same Bowers and Wilkins 700 and 600 series speakers, Velodyne sub in a 5.1.4 system - same McIntosh 7 ch amp etc.
It must be doubling of the bit depth in the Audessey calibration?
Don't know what it was, it just sounds really nice. Especial with TIDAL streaming vis HEOS. Features I did not have that in my av7005
Also, the setup has been greatly streamlined.

I upgraded from a Yamaha RX-A3070 receiver and I cannot believe the difference in sound with the Marantz AV8805. Setup was really simplified with Marantz' step-by-step on-screen instructions and calibration was easy with their microphone capability. Dolby Atmos, IMAX and DTS:X all sound absolutely incredible on my 7.1.4 setup and the pre-amp is very customizable. The unit is very well designed and looks great in my home theater system. I highly recommend this pre-amp for anyone looking for the best setup for their home theater system.

I bought this as an Upgrade to my Marantz Av7703 processor. There is a big difference in sound quality (with same amps and speakers). Most of the features are the same, as the 7704/3. Not sure if it is a improvement over the 8802a since I have changed other equipment between owning both, so I can't give a fair comparison between those two. Happy with the purchase, a little pricey, but it was sorth it to me.

An incredible easily perceptible step up from the 77__ series. I was hesitant to spend the $$, but now after owning them both I now know what I was missing. It simply does everything better. I read A LOT of reviews before purchasing, not at all a waist of time, it’s good to the hear pros and cons and yes the hdmi 2.2 upgrade is disappointing and the fact that it’s 5K may make one hesitate, it is ready full bore to deliver on all of “today’s” platforms

Great preamp and processor. If you are looking for quality at a great price, the Marantz is a great processor to go with. Whether you are using balanced or unbalanced (RCA) cables, the quality of the sound us great.

I'll keep this simple, its absolutely the best. The amount of pre-amp options is what makes this processor amazing, easy to setup and operate.

First time going with a pre-pro vs a receiver and it is seriously night and day better. Replaced a Marantz receiver and I couldn’t believe the difference.

I have tried many brands of preamps in the last few years, and never got the results that I wanted. Finally, in spite of the cost, I decided to try an 8805. It is excellent in every respect, superior to anything else that I have tried. It produces a large and detailed sound field that is a pleasure to experience. This one is a keeper

I was trying to upgrade my processor and noticed this product.
Poor video quality and sound was really disappointing. I have KEF speakers and my player is Oppo 205. I'm thinking about Emotiva.
