This is a great sounding CD player. It has a great DAC in the Cirus Logis CS4398. Simple design and interface. I play this through a Creek Evo50a integrated amp with Wharfedale Denton speakers and it's a great sounding hifi system.

I am hearing a depth and range of sound that I have never heard before in the same cd. The unit is very simple to use and only handles one cd at a time. Exactly what I was looking for. Also it has an earphone jack. I don't need to engage the amplifier unit to listen to a cd, just engage and plug into the cd player.

Sound quality is excellent, simple operation and will replay even older CD's without skips. The remote has too many unnecsssary and non useable functions. Also a little dissapointed that the player could not play music from a writeable CD that even the player in my Ford could read and play.

This is a great basic CD player. It sounds fantastic and in my opinion is one of the best looking ones on the market.

The sound quality is AMAZING! smooth operation, well-designed.

Bought this as an upgrade for playing CDs over using my Blu ray player. There is a difference. CD's are brighter and more detailed. Makes a great additional to my Marantz/Klipsch home theater set up. I would buy again.

This is top of the line player,but much more than that. I replaced my old player after it served me well.All my CDs sound new again!

I listen to Opera, classical, Blues, Jazz, Rock and alternative music and am picky about the sound quality. I really like the stereo imaging. It plays my 24 bit CD's with all the clarity it like you are there. It's good enough to show the flaws in the rest of your music system. The Head phone amp and volume control are really good, I have a pair of Grado head phones it drives effortlessly.

First maranta CD player was defective. Cd tray opened and closed loudly like drive chain off line and 1 or 10 cd played could not b read by drive. Returned, waited another week, tested player in store and has worked perfect since. Very clear and smooth sound. Impressive. Worth the second chance and wait as well as price. Now only time will tell on reliability

All my audio equipment is Adcom and my CD player failed after 25 year of great service. However the new Macintosh player is like day and night. MY CDs sound like the first time I played them.. I cannot believe the fidelity improvement. No question this has been a great purchase

So far, after almost a year of regular usage, a reliable, clean sounding and silently functioning CD player. Clarity of sound with my Elac bookshelves is impressive and no skipping nor signal loss so far!!

This is a well made, great sounding CD player. I have had Marantz before and would again. I prefer single disc and it is as straight forward as they come.

Excellent quality and with the full-function remote, does everything I was looking for!

I gave it stars because I know Marantz is a great audio company. I received the CD player fairly quickly. The box was sturdy and without a dent or tear on it. The packaging was nice and the unit was wrapped professionally. There were no signs of shock or even bumping. The CD player was beautiful looking, and it powered right up. However, when I attempted to load a CD it didn't seem to spin up and would not read any disc I tried to play. Then it would not even take the discs in without the cd sliding out and jamming. That was it. I returned it to my local Best Buy store and left empty handed due to severe lack of inventory. Currently disappointed in both Marantz and Best Buy.

This CD unit was recommended to me over a Yamaha unit.Glad I took the advice.

Overall a very good CD player. One gripe is that the readout display is too small. I have a 31 year old Carver CD player that has a much larger display which is easy to see. Another minor gripe is that the remote has far more buttons than are necessary for just the CD player. Again, I have a 31 year old Carver CD player that has a very simple remote. It is not designed to control other components like the remote to the CD 5005 is. I like a simple straight forward remote. I'm not sure they even make remotes anymore that go to a single component. I have listened critically to the Carver CD player and compared it to my new Marantz CD5005. As one would expect, the newer Marantz sounds better, but it isn't obvious unless you listen to both CD players carefully. I replaced the belts in the old Carver and it fixed it somewhat. If I had been able to get it to work like it did when it was new, I wouldn't have bought the Marantz. I was satisfied with the sound quality of the Carver CD player. The new Marantz appears to be a well made quality unit. I like the looks of the unit too. I have owned this CD player for several months now and have listened to it critically. There are many HDCDs out there that are not labelled as HDCDs. When I listen to HDCDs on my 16 Year old Harmon Kardon HDCD player and then listen to them on the CD 5005, they sound better on the HDCD player. With just standard CDs , the Marantz CD 5005 sounds as good or better than the Harmon Kardon HDCD player. Now when it dies and if it can't be fixed, then I'll end up buying the Marantz HDCD player. If you do not feel the need or desire for an HDCD player, then my gripes are small ones that should not deter a person from buying this unit. It is a quality piece.
